Through the winds of time, the ‘Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza’ has established itself as one of the leading musical competitions in the country with its participation list already gaining strong names in an aim for local artists to show off their vocal skills in the national language. In recent years, the list of finalists in the event has been quite surprisingly bulging with amazing artists including Mike Spiteri, Klinsmann, Danica Muscat, Anna Azzopardi, Deborah C, Janice Mangion, Tiziana Calleja, Marilena, Rita Pace with former winners being Claudette Pace, Ira Losco, Miriam Christine, Lawrence Gray and Claudia Faniello amongst others. Despite the next edition of the showcase being quite far off, it is less than a year away and preparations have already begun through a wildcard competition on the show ‘Sas-Sitta’ hosted by Ray Attard and Janice Darmanin every Saturday as from 14:05 CET till 18:00 CET. In the past couple of weeks, artists have taken on some of most amazing songs in the world of music and performed them with the Spiteri Lucas band in the studio with a panel of judges commenting each and every week on the respective performers.
The competition is definitely not easy and the quality levels well on beyond high which is somewhat impressive actually. There is a certain aura that in the long run, the winner will be deserving of the position although thus far, there has not been that special grace of performing in Maltese, which is actually something that will be taken up in due time because as from the second phase, which will be featuring eight performers in total who will keep dropping down until the eventuality of judges and the public getting their respective final say. The fact of the matter is that live performances will be crucial and with a live band, things are somewhat even more difficult therefore, artists will have to be very careful as they interpret local songs in the national language.
As a supervisor of the selection process and member of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza committee for the past two years, ‘it will be imperative that songs are performed to the tone of voice that suits the respective artist because it is important to see them adding style to a song without copying it.’ Therefore make sure to tune it to see who out of the participating individuals will make it to the next phase. ESCflashmalta would like to wish everyone the very best of luck. Without any apparent order, the acts through to round two are as follows; Amanda Friggieri, Bianca Vella, Roberta Mallia, Simone Gauci, Derrick Schembri, Marlon Chircop, Cherise Attard and Marie Claire Attard Bason.
