Dreams do come true and that is something Glen Vella who represented Malta in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest can prove as back in 2008, Glen dreamed of forming a Gospel choir. When he spoke of the idea to his friends and colleagues Pamela and Leontine they both backed him and by a month, that is in March, ten well known performers came together to form ‘Animae Gospel Choir’.
In October of 2009, Animae organized their first professional concert and it was surely an event to remember as the choir performed some of the most popular classics along with current tracks in their inimitable style. The concert was a success and those who attended or have heard the choir before and could not make it to the concert have been asking for another ever since.
And finally it seems that their fans will get what they have been asking for as towards the end of next month, precisely on Saturday the 24th of March and Sunday the 25th of March, Animae will be organizing their second concert at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. Apart from the remarkable voices of all the singers, the concert will once again feature a full live band and also a children’s choir – both of which will surely compliment the feel good factor of the choir.
Those interested in attending better hurry up as tickets are selling relatively fast and considering that the previous one was impeccable – it is surely an event not to miss. Something a number of people witnessed after watching one of the choir’s biggest gigs which came recently at the last edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest where they accompanied Glen Vella for a rendition of ‘Heal the World’.
Our little island is known for the huge talent it offers and Animae are surely a proof of this. Each individual member is talented in his own way and when they came together the offer a spectacle that leave you wanting more by each number they sing. It is no surprise that during the past four years, the choirs’ popularity grew bigger and they are being asked to perform in different public and private functions.
The choirs’ latest line-up consists of Glen Vella, Pamela, Leontine, Angela Spiteri, Diane Portelli, Anna Azzopardi, Josef Tabone, Christine Camilleri, Petra Zammit, Nadine Axisa, Annabelle Debono, Dorothy Bezzina, Janvil, Ian Tirchett, Jackie Pace Delicata, Mark Bartolo, Eleonor Spiteri, Fabian Galea, Sean Borg, Josef Micallef, Debbie Scerri with Christian Borg on the piano.
Those interested in attending this concert can book their tickets by contacting the Mediterranean Conference Centre either by telephone on 25595750/1, by email on [email protected] or else by visiting www.mcc.com.mt. Those in attendance will also be doing a good deed as a donation will be given to the Malta Community Chest Fund. The concert is held under the patronage of the President of Malta his Excellency Dr George Abela.
