The Dutch broadcaster responsible for the participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has just organized what could be deemed to be the best national selection in recent years with a stunning setting with regards to visuals as well as presentation in terms of format. Nevertheless, the result was somewhat less enticing despite being quite an exciting process seeing the jury and the people in the audience sway towards one side as opposed to the public who made a completely different choice in what seemed to be an extremely close race. In the end though it was Joan and her track ‘You and Me’ which won the Nationaal Songfestival 2012.
There were six acts competing for the right to represent The Netherlands having made it through an initial process which included over four hundred (400) performers. In the meantime, all of the acts were drawn into duels and put against each other with votes of the public, jury and also the advice of an international panel of people in the studio, very similar to the system used in Sanremo earlier this month. The three acts were not all definite except for Pearl actually whose song ‘We Can Overcome’ finished in the runner-up position at the end of the voting. The other individual being Ivan won the jury with his song ‘Take Me As I Am’ but overall finished in third place. The Netherlands will be competing in the second semi-final alongside Malta where Kurt Calleja will be presenting his track ‘This Is The Night’.
