Since 2006, Finland has maintained a positive streak by virtue of making it through to the final on five (5) of their next seven (7) attempts with their most recent being earlier this year with the track Marry Me co-written by Erik Nyholm, Kristofer Karlsson, Jessika Lundstrom and vocalist Krista Siegfrids. Despite the controversy that the track stirred due to a ‘lesbian kiss’, the commercial success quickly followed as the track entered the singles chart in Finland, Iceland, Turkey, Sweden, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The selection process known as Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu is set to return for the third consecutive year following such positive comments about the way that it was organised.
Harri Hakanen, Chairman of the Selection Committee has gone on record stating that they have already received a number of entries in a variety of genres and musical style reminding aspiring artists and songwriters that they are looking for an ‘international sounding‘ and ‘insightfully unique‘ entry which would honour Finland abroad. He went onto add that the ultimate prize of competing in the showcase is to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest and garnering worldwide attention for more than the actual stage performance of three minutes. This is due to publicity, airplay and the opportunity to work with renowned choreographers, producers and stylists.
In the meantime, Krista Siegfrids has also taken to her Official Facebook Page in light of the recent regulations that were published on the official website of the broadcaster. As always, her enthusiastic manner is astonishing ‘Go for It! It was the best experience ever‘. Since representing Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest, Krista signed a record deal with Universal Music Finland and released her debut album Ding Dong which peaked at number #19 on the Albums Chart in her native country. She is also currently a mentor on the Kids version of The Voice. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.
