The entry that will be ending the semi-final on Thursday night will be Ireland, a very respectful spot for the nation which holds the record of victories in the event having managed to win it a total of seven times. This year, the Late Late Show hosted Eurosong yet again but the level of entries was somewhat very good in comparison to recent years with great acts brought forward to present songs written either by mentors or well known people. In the end though as expected, one act surpassed expectations and won only by a two point margin, they were Jedward with the song ‘Lipstick’ which has been written by none other than Daniel Priddy, Lars Halvor Jensen and Martin Michael Larsson.

Biography of the Artists (Presented by Eurovision.tv)

Jedward AKA brothers John and Edward Grimes are an Irish singing pop duo who became a huge hit after appearing on the UK’s X-Factor in 2009. Known for their distinctive blonde quiffs and unique performances, the identical twins have succeeded in being one of the most successful acts ever to have taken part in the talent competition. Following their success on the show Jedward collaborated with 90s hip-hop star Vanilla Ice on their debut single Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby). It was a No.1 hit in the Irish singles charts and No.2 hit in the UK singles charts on downloads alone. The twins then went on to release their debut album Planet Jedward in July 2010 which became the fastest selling record in Ireland in 2010.

Another Song by Jedward

Their first solo tour was extended from 28 to 75 dates following phenomenal demand from fans. The twins have also had their own reality show OMG Jedward for Irish television which proved to be a huge hit with viewers and offered an entertaining insight into the world that is Planet Jedward. Jedward will be performing Lipstick in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The song has already gone to No.1 in the Irish charts following their success in the Irish Eurovision selection competition earlier this year. Lipstick was composed by Lars Jensen, Martin Larsson and Dan Priddy.

Chorus Lyrics

She’s got her lipstick on
Here I come, da da dum
She’s got her lipstick on
Hit and run, then I’m gone
Check my collar, collar, hey, hey, ey
Check my collar, collar, hey, hey, ey

Through the Eyes of Our Experts

Michelle Farrugia: This was a surprise for me from Ireland. I have to be honest and say I love their more traditional entries and unfortunately I don’t think succumbing to popular music really works for them. However, looking at Lipstick, it is a well produced pop song that is fun and catchy. Jedward do put all into the presentation and can carry the song well hopefully it will be enough to get them through. Five Points!

Tobias Larsson: The closing entry of the second semi is the real shocker and surprise - the punkiest entry ever entered by Ireland. John and Edward could maybe not carry a tune in a bucket, but they ooze with energy and star quality, eager to conquer the world. Maybe not a winner in the end, but a magnificently bubbly piece of bubblegum pop that could secure some pretty solid scoring in the end. Eight Points!

Steve Allen: Yes, I like it, arty electro kitsch pop from Jedward, a lot of fun,  great chorus quirky lyric and nice art pop video..very catchy catchy catchy and a hit record! Ten Points as well, great!

History of Nation

The most important nation in the Eurovision Song Contest is surely Ireland because as introduced in the beginning, they have managed to impress so many people with their seven victories. Ireland has not taken part each year since the inception of the event with their debut participation only coming in 1965 when Butch Moore managed to finish in sixth place with the song ‘I'm Walking The Streets In The Rain’. It is quite important to note the victories for the nation as they are the real history of it. Going through time, their victories have come in 1970 with Dana and ‘All Kinds of Everything’, in 1980 with Johnny Logan and ‘What’s Another Year?’, in 1987 with the same Johnny Logan and his entry ‘Hold Me Now’, in 1992 with Linda Martin and ‘Why Me’, in 1993 with ‘In Your Eyes’ performed by Niamh Kavanagh, in 1994 with Charlie McGettigan and Paul Harrington and their song ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Kids’ and last but not least in 1996 with ‘The Voice’ interpreted by Eimear Quinn.
