Age is definitely one of the key elements in any given singing competition and as we kick off the expert opinion for the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest, we note the fact that Domenique is just sixteen years old making her the youngest performer in this years' edition. The idea of age is one which always has marked debate in the Maltese Islands as to see whether acts are ready for the spotlight but in the case of Domenique, her experience in the past has shown that she has the right attributes to face the camera and the people managing to interact quite well. The song which Domenique is presenting bears the name 'Love Trap' and is written by none other than songwriter Clinton Paul, who has been quite busy himself in recent months working on his debut album as a leading performer.

Malta Summer Hit Song Contest 2011 - An In-depth Analysis

The festival which was formerly known at the Malta International Hit Song Contest actually had already seen Domenique competing last year with a very different style of song because it was a ballad going by the name of 'Violet Skies' composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg. With a total of 55% of the final vote, last year, Domenique managed to walk away with the tele-voting award. She is definitely looking forward to this years' competition as she continues to show us the depths of her voice and her style by bringing out a song which she herself has described as 'A soft rock song with an upbeat tempo'.

With the contest getting closer with each passing day, we have also asked her how it feels to be a part of the competition and answering this question quite ecstatically, this is what she had to say 'It is definitely another great experience for me. Right now we're focusing about releasing my first album and much more.' The competition comprises of a total of entries entries this year and thus, we have gathered the opinion of each and every act about the other entries and this is what Domenique had to tell us about the songs which are competing against her, 'I think that there is a high level .. And all the songs are unique in their own way ;)'

Through the Eyes of Our Experts

Niall Mooney: So the first song I get to hear is Domenique . She is a competent singer and the song has a distinct summer feel . . Reminds me of something you could have heard on Bay watch . The production is OK, the lyrics a little patchy in places but overall not a bad song . If this is the average standard we have a good contest but I think for me this song is possibly a little dated for 2011. Back in the 90's it might be a potential winner but now, I can only give it 5 points.

Evelyne Filipe: Domenique has a nice voice but not on tune. She is young and needs to improve her vocals. She needs to get stronger on the high notes and low. The song has a nice melody but there's too much going on, to much percussion. I would give it another beat, it gets hard to listen at the end. This song is a diamond in the rough. They can do better...and thus I can only give this song 3 points in total.

Nathan D: Hmm.. she's a good singer, the song seems to have no pauses thought and thus it just bangs you with lyrics which is not necessarily a bad thing so to speak ! :):) I would like to award Domenique with a total of 5 points.
