'Xarabank', synonomous with the revelation of the 20 finalists, took place a couple of hours ago, laying down this years' crop of participants, a perfect mixture of newcomers, and veterans. At first listen, off the 1 minute snippets, it seems that the standard of songs is relatively high, not too mention that the genres are quite varied, laying down the foundations for an exciting semi-final stage.

Stunning! One word, commonly used as a phrase to describe perfection. Somewhat rare that I use such language, for those who have come to know me, believe that I am difficult to please.
Last night at Rockestra, an annual event held under the auspices of the Office of the President of Malta in support of the Malta Community Chest Fund, I used this word a mere 3 times; for the collective Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Sigmund Mifsud, and then for the powerhouse female vocals of Julie Zahra and Raquela.
Raquela, a stand-out artist, whose talent has been showcased time-and-time again on the national stage, having been in the finals of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, 2011 and 2013 as well as Teatru Unplugged 2013, was the highlight of Rockestra in 2014, performing a duet of "Say Something" with Konrad Pule, originally by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. This year she took on, "A Thousand Years", originally by Christina Perri. Tried by several other local acts before her, all of whom were sub-standard, Raquela was in her element and zone, getting a rapturous applause mid-way through the performance.
Julie Zahra, one-half of Malta's representative duo at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004, recently back to Malta following a lengthy stay in the United Kingdom was absolutely flawless in both her numbers, starting out with a jaw-dropping performance of Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever", where she swayed left to right in a beautiful white gown, before giving an impeccable performance of "The Phantom of the Opera" in a duet with Frank Cardassia.
The two ladies were truly in a league of their own, and gave performances which bring talented foreign acts to shame and ridicule. The evening, a positive celebration of talent, featured several well known artists, all of whom gave their absolute best. Notable mentions include Raquel Galdes, Ludwig Galea, Justin Galea, Chris Grech, Brooke Borg, Lawrence Gray, and Victorio Gauci of The Crowns. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.
'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style. Since the Eurovision Song Contest is now just a month away, the programme has taken a different twist, as entries competing in this year's musical extravaganza in Vienna, Austria are being reviewed by some of the most recognisable faces in the local music industry.
Tonight! Georgina, a female artist, and veteran, who was the first to represent Malta in English at the Eurovision Song Contest, while performing "Could It Be" in a duet with Paul Giordimaina, will be joined by Lawrence Gray, the male singer/songwriter who loves the international music competition and came twice close to representing Malta, finishing in second place in 1999, and 2003. They will be joined by 'Eurovision Time' hosts; Roderick Azzopardi Custo and Andrew Zahra, whose show will be kicking off in a couple of days time, in anticipation for the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest set to take place in Vienna, Austria. Lawrence Gray, an accomplished male singer/songwriter, a three time runner-up in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, and also recent finalist with "The One That You Love", co-written with Elton Zarb recently gave an interview to Deo Grech on "The Celebrity Night" which airs on Saturday nights on F Living.
In light of his most recent participation, Lawrence felt 'disappointed' for the simple reason that the 'public reaction was extremely positive' and as a result did not expect to finish as lowly as 8th place. He went onto add, that without the support of Maronia, his wife, he would have long given up on the music scene, 'opting out of it', and vying for other strongholds in life. We do agree, as that position was definitely unwarranted, as were many others during the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015.
Lawrence Gray, is a versatile male singer/songwriter who has twice been denied the right to represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest, in 1999 with "The Right Time" written by Philip Vella and Paul Abela and in 2003 with "Why Not?" written by Ray Agius. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news from the local music scene, and do not forget to view the New Year's Special of 'The Celebrity Night' which is airing tomorrow night.

In the past couple of years, charity has been one of the most pivotal aspects in the creation of a state, which while somewhat limited in resources, is not lacking in generosity, with record funds being targeted and achieved every year. "L-Istrina" is the most important charity event, with funds given to various organisations.
As a means of supporting this noble gesture, a theme song is recorded, and what is intriguing is that several familiar faces make an appearance, all in the face of charity. This year, the song is entitled "Int Min Int", and is composed by Dominic Cini to the lyrics of Giovann Attard with production entrusted to Elton Zarb of Freetime Productions.
"Int Min Int" features the vocals of; Amber (ESC 2015), Dominic (MESC 2015), Renato (ESC 1975) , Ina Robinich, Federica Falzon (JESC 2014), Gaia Cauchi (JESC 2013), La Barokka, Mary Spiteri (ESC 1992), Mary Rose Mallia, Noel Zarb, Georgina (ESC 1991), Janvil (MESC 2005-2006, 2009), Josmar, Iona Dalli (MESC 2015), Lawrence Gray (MESC 1998, 1999, 2001-2004, 2010, 2012, 2015), Ludwig Galea (ESC 2004), Deborah C (MESC 12-14).
We urge you to watch, and donate during this year's edition of "L-Istrina" as it is aired on Television Malta, ONE Television, NET Television, F Living and Smash Television during the traditional "Boxing Day", otherwise also known as the 26th December, the day following Christmas. After an amazing show, we got to know who will be the 14 (fourteen) competing in the Maltese National Final tomorrow evening. There are some of the qualifiers which were a bit of a surprise to see them go through to the next stage, but after tonight's performances, we can say that all the acts did brilliantly and it was a wonderful show.
At the end of the evening, there were 6 eliminated acts; Lyndsay, Iona Dalli, Raquel, Domenique, Danica and Corazon. People in the venue were surprised at the outcome, noting that there were seriously surprised to see Danica and Raquel miss out on a place in the final. The only explaination for this, is to ensure that there is diversity in terms of genres.
At the post-showcase press conference, Head of Delegation and Public Broadcasting Services Chief Executive Officer, Anton Attard congratulated the qualifiers, whilst thanking the other 6 acts for their contribution to an extremely high standard.Following the draw of the first and last slots in the running order, the producer came up with a finalised version of the draw, one which you may denote below.
