John and Edward, commonly known as Jedward are Irish twins who have risen to success following their stint on the British version of the X Factor which led to a recording deal, first with Sony Music Ireland and then eventually with Universal Music Ireland, seeing them take part in the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions. The first time with Lipstick in 2011 finishing in eight place and the second time with Waterline managing only nineteenth in 2012. Nevertheless, their profile across Europe has risen considerably especially in Sweden, a nation which gave them 12 points on the first offering and 5 points, the second time round.
They will be the special guests of this weeks' second chance at Melodifestivalen. SVT, the broadcaster in charge for the Swedish preselection is keeping the whole affair relatively a secret but nevertheless, it seems that in true second chance fashion, they will be duelling with the hosts, Gina Dirawi and Danny Saucedo, the latter being a two time first runner-up of the Melodifestivalen competition. Jedward have continuously continued to surprise their main critic Simon Cowell with their success with their latest album Young Love reaching number #1 in Ireland, number #8 in Estonia, #11 in Sweden, #22 in Finland and #50 in Germany amongst others.

RTÉ, the Irish broadcaster responsible for the participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has always seen the competition from a positive point of view and considering that their most recent results have been rather well, renewed interest in the people has also been noted. The brotherly duo known as Jedward were selected through a public and a jury for the past two years, first time round with the track Lipstick which finished in eight place and second time round with the song Waterline which could only manage twentieth place. Nevertheless, qualification from the semi-final has been achieved for the past three years and the selection process featuring five notable mentors will be used in 2013 as they hope that their successful streak does indeed continue.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the mentors for the 2013 edition of the Late Late Show Eurosong special will be none other than Mairéad Farrell, Shay Healy, Mark McCabe, Niall Mooney and Stuart O’Connor. Each individual brings a vast amount of experience on board whether through radio, production or songwriting. There have been a number of names mentioned thus far although some are pretty unlikely at this point in time due to other commitments in music. Amongst those which are heavily tipped to be joining the list are none other than Leanne Moore and Rebecca Creighton who backed Jedward in the past two years at the Eurovision Song Contest, Sharon Condon, a former member of the girlband known as Wonderland and former runner-up Nikki Kavanagh who seems to be showing interest once more. Outsiders for the showcase are seemingly former Westlife members; Shane Filan and Mark Feehily whilst the strong rumours surrounding Shayne Ward have also died down because of his commitments to Dancing on Ice. The revelation of the artists will be made in the next couple of weeks so make sure to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news from Ireland as they try to conquer the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

In the meantime though, RTÉ revealed to our friends at esctoday.com that they will be staying true to the mentor system used in the past two years for 2013 hoping that another brilliant entry come forward.
There are a lot of names which are being touted as potential members within the mentors first and foremost with a former winner also somewhat in the mix according to the latest information. The favourite to take such a position following Linda Martin last year is surely her successor in the vein of Niamh Kavanagh who of course was the first one to take Ireland into the final since Brian Kennedy in 2006 when she represented the nation in 2010 with the song It's For You. A number of other people from the entertainment industry will surely be involved in one way or another but nevertheless, several questions are being asked about who will ultimately be performing in the national selection with the hope of representing Ireland. Amongst the people being mentioned are the backing vocalists for Jedward in the last Eurovision Song Contest, those being Leanne Moore and Melanie McCabe who have taken part in You're A Star and The X Factor respectively. Despite the fact that they failed to win the X Factor back in 2009, finishing in a respectable fifth place ahead of acts which were thought to be finishing much higher, they have managed to carve out a successful career with Universal Music Ireland who have sought to push them to the limits with their music releases. One of the main key factors of their success in Europe has surely been led through two entries at the Eurovision Song Contest, first in 2011 with the song Lipstick finishing in eight place and then in 2012 with the song Waterline which could only manage nineteenth place. Nevertheless, their success continues with their most recent album Young Love charting at number #1 in Ireland, #8 in Estonia and #11 in Sweden and #22 in Finland amongst others. They have decided to release their third single off the record bearing the name Luminous.
Their most recent track is being officially released online through all digital platforms including iTunes for example as from Tuesday, 16th October 2012 although it did get an official release in Ireland just slightly before, 12th October 2012. The songwriters of this song are all Swedish; Sebastian Lundberg, Fredrik Häggstam, Johan Gustafson and Marlene Strand meaning that the sound is somewhat expected to be very much in their original vein. The music video shows the brothers in extremely different form than what many are used to but we will let you judge their appearance and their song. It is important to point out that whilst Jedward have not ruled out returning to the competition anytime in the next couple of years, they said that they could potentially return in the future. Seven victories have seen Ireland keep their record as the most successful country at the Eurovision Song Contest and despite the fact that they have not managed to come anywhere close to the top three in recent years, it seems that their fortunes are improving noting last years' top ten finish and this years' semi-final qualification thanks to the twins, Jedward and their entries Lipstick and Waterline where in the final they finished in eight and nineteenth place respectively. In the months leading up to the Irish Eurosong, there had been a lot of speculation on the track which the duo would ultimately be performed noting the fact that Linda Martin went on record stating that they had been receiving a lot of songs which were being put under consideration. As the date of the selection loomed, the twins went onto their twitter saying that the song would ultimately be called What's Your Number but in a couple of days, people learned the song is actually called Waterline.
The difference of the title could have still referred to the same track in the long run but this would not turn out to be the case eventually, especially due to the fact that when their third album Young Love was released earlier this year, peaking at number #1 in Ireland, number #8 in Estonia and #18 in Sweden amongst other, there was a track with the same name that many had expected to be their bid for the Eurovision Song Contest. As the fact remains, weeks have passed since the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan came to an end but we seriously believe that the wrong song was picked noting that What's Your Number is fresh, catchy and very much in boys' vocal range. The choreography for it would have been very instant and people would have remembered the song easier without the extra needed gimmick of the fountain that was brought in to help the viewers remember the track. Ireland have managed to make it through to the finals for the past three years and will be hoping to do so in 2013 when the contest moves to Malmo, Sweden. There are a number of names who are being tipped for next year including Imelda May, Leanne Moore, Mikey Graham, Nadine Coyle and even Johnny Logan amongst others.
