'Quirky, subdued and reserved', the track will be hitting the radio stations in the next couple of days as Jean Claude Vancell continues to prepare for a couple of new releases in 2013. The message of the song is rather intriguing as it looks at the unspoken thoughts of a stalker, and a new found obsession for the stalker's love interest narrated by Vancell.

The track is also a stepping stone for Jean Claude, marking the launch of his first solo music video. With a self-written storyline, artistic direction by Monica Farrugia and photographic direction by Alistair Farrugia, the video is a small journey into the stalker's world. The video also features Michelle Mifsud. Jean Claude's summer will be as busy as ever as he takes the stage as one of the singers of Akustika's summer concert to be held in August, together with solo appearances and new releases. Betting Odds and Polls have become increasingly popular across the years but nevertheless have always had a somewhat bittersweet element when they end up being somewhat off from the final mark. Nevertheless, another poll which is highly publicised is that of the General Organisation of Eurovision Fans, also known as the OGAE. In Malta, the branch is led by Adrian Refalo and Deo Grech, the latter being a successful lyricist as well as former member of the committee which took care of the nations' representation. Today, escflashmalta.com is proud to exclusively reveal the points of the OGAE Malta.

Malta represented by Gianluca and his entry Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat have fared respectably thus far, always garnering a placing just outside of the top ten, being the only reason why points have not been racked up. In the meantime, the poll as conducted by the members has somewhat been accurate noting that they have managed to predict three winners from the past six years, these being none other than Euphoria performed by Loreen for Sweden in 2012, Fairytale sung by Alexander Rybak for Norway in 2009 and Moltiva performed by Marija Serifovic for Serbia in 2007 respectively. Gianluca is surely busy with the preparations for the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which is now less than two months away. Although things have been quite quiet because of the local elections in Malta, the work was still being done by all the team to ensure that the local entry is promoted appropriately and the song will have the best possible presentation during the second semi-final on the 16th of May where Malta will be sixth in the running order.

The competition seems to be high this year and qualification is a barrier we need to overcome, so in order to boost our chances, the Public Broadcasting Services has decided to have a trick up our sleeves. The Public Broadcasting Services believes that the media is a sucker for a sweet unusual story, so if you manage to sell them this you will stand out. It has been made clear prior and after Gianluca’s win that his family is musically gifted and since this is something rather unusual – the team decided to use this to our advantage.

The film and musical The Sound of Music made a hit because of this and having a real life story would surely go down well with the media in Malmo – maybe this might be the actual trick that the country needs to finally bring the Eurovision Song Contest to Malta. The Bezzina family is quite big, in total they are nine – seven siblings, the mother and the father. The only problem which arose was when the family found out that the Eurovision rules state that each song can have up to six performers on stage as this meant that three members were going to be left out!

Whoever knows the Bezzina family, knows how humble and down to earth they are but with a shot at stardom in sight, it seems that the family has become more competitive than ever, in order to get one of the six slots available to perform in Malmo. Gianluca brings the number of members to be chosen down to five because since he won he has to be the performer on stage, but the other places are up for grabs. Big sister, Dorothy Bezzina has basically assured herself of a place when she was appointed as the vocal coach for the song by the team. 

That means, that in actual fact there are four places left. Close sources to our website told us that the decision is going to be taken by Dorothy and Gianluca since they are the stars of the family. Gianluca is somewhat reluctant on making the choice though but Dorothy decided to grab the bull by its horns and decide who is going to make the cut herself. Distant family members told us that right now, Dorothy is being considered as the queen in the Bezzina household as all the other members are trying their best to impress the oldest sibling in choosing them. 

The idea of the Family Von Trapp from The Sound of Music puts the parents in pole position to grab two of the places in the final six and that would mean that there would only be two places left. Samaria, the sister who accompanied her brother in Malta is in outrage as her place is definitely at risk - a close friend of hers stated that she completely lost it when she found out the news. She cannot compete as much as the others since she is living abroad but she had been going mad on buying flowers to her older sister and sending all kinds of gifts to her.

Close sources to the Public Broadcasting Services state though that she shouldn’t worry much as they plan on keeping her in the song for the sake of some continuity since she was present in the national selection and also in the video. This would leave two brothers and two sisters fighting for the last spot – quite awkward I would say but no one has a clue to which sibling this spot will go to. It seems that Dorothy will be making her decision solemnly based on who manages to serenade her with gifts she likes. The talent is strong and therefore any member would be fit to take a place in Tomorrow.

Gianluca is over the moon that instead of his friends, he is going to have his family on stage with him and he commented that it is unfortunate that the Eurovision Song Contest rules allow only six members on stage as he feels this is discriminating big families and music groups. The original members of the band seemed to be rather tolerable with the idea, although sources stated that Louise Ann threw a huge tantrum when she found out that her second Eurovision experience came to an abrupt end. 

The family version of Tomorrow was well received by critics and thankfully the team decided beforehand to put the family version on the official single. To give the idea of a united family front, the background of the Maltese song will feature ALL the members of the family going round different parts of Malta – similar to the idea of what we see in The Sound of Music in Austria but this time with the blue sea and clear skies of the Mediterranean island. Local society has somewhat become infatuated with using the English language as a main source of dialogue which is definitely a positive for the upcoming generation as they head into a world which mainly uses the language. Nevertheless, Maltese is a national form of speech and writing and it is stunning that competitions like the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and L-Għanja tal-Poplu still support music written in Maltese because original tracks are already hard to come by and this is the manner which could still support one of the core elements of a national identity. This years' edition of the Għanja tal-Poplu officially commenced yesterday and escflashmalta.com is in a position to exclusively  reveal that 38 entries have been submitted.

Philip Vella, Janvil, Corazon, Walter Micallef, Ina Robinich, Kaya, Eleanor Cassar and Glen Vella could all list themselves as winners of the renowned competition throughout the years with more recent participants being Grecia Bezzina and Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2012 semi-finalist; Janice Mangion. Last year, L-Għanja tal-Poplu received around 42 entries and therefore, one could denote that despite the drop, the amount of submissions is roughly around the same. Should the quality be somewhat similar, then the people are clearly in for a treat. One of the most anticipated national finals this season seems to be the one taking place in Ireland and this is due to the fact that it is somewhat wide open with the artists gathering endorsements from renowned personalities in the entertainment industry to garner public acknowledgment and indeed, support. Zoe Alexis is one of the five artists competing for the right to represent the country in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest having been selected by mentor and songwriter; Niall Mooney to perform the song Fire which he co-wrote alongside Lauren White and Willie Weeks. escflashmalta.com had the opportunity to have a chat with her prior to the actual final which is taking place tomorrow evening.

Ireland has managed to come out on top at the Eurovision Song Contest on an astonishing seven occasions, but nevertheless, the last time that this happened was way back in 1996 with Eimear Quinn and her track The Voice which had followed the success achieved by Dana, Johnny Logan, Linda Martin, Niamh Kavanagh, Charlie McGettigan and Paul Harrington. Looking back at what each of the winning entries presented to the competition, do you think that you can bring something different and which of the artists mentioned above do you most admire?

I definitely feel I can bring something different to the Eurovision. I love to give my audience a real show and I want to give Ireland a pop star; everything from my song and style is exciting, young and different. The Irish Eurovision entry I admire the most has to be Niamh Kavanagh. I love her voice and her performance still to this day is one of my favourites.

As per the selection process established by the Irish broadcaster, RTE in recent years, you were sought by a mentor, in the form of Niall Mooney. Now, this songwriter has been to the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions already whilst he has made it through to selections in Europe as well, so his experience might have swayed you to take up this showcase. What was the initial idea behind competing in the Late Late Show Eurosong and what could you tell us about your entry The Fire which is co-written by Niall Mooney, Lauren White and Willie Weeks?

I was very excited and humbled when I was first approached. It’s been an amazing experience so far and I can only imagine what it would be like to go to Sweden if selected. Fire is an all-round great pop track. It is something the younger and older audience will like. I believe this this song has the ability to do well in Ireland and across the world. Not one person I’ve meet has been able to get the song out of their heads. It is everything and more I could have hoped for in a song!

For the past two years, Ireland has received a lot of international attention from the media due to the fact that Jedward had taken the role of representatives but nevertheless, this proved to be quite a positive element with a younger demographic somewhat intrigued about the growth in popularity with regards to the Eurovision Song Contest. What did you make of the performances of Lipstick and Waterline and did you believe that it was the right choice for the jury and the public to select them on two consecutive years?

I think Jedward were great. They really opened the door to the pop world in Ireland. Although I think it would have been nice to have another act given a shot the second time round they still performed well and gave it everything.

During the performance of your entry Fire, you will be joined on stage by two experienced performers, in the form of Donna McCaul who was the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004 alongside her brother Joe as well as Nikki Kavanagh who was the first-runner up of the Eurosong competition with the song Falling, two years ago despite having won the support of the regional jury. I have no doubts that the presentation will be of the highest standard with such professionals around but what advice have they given you in the lead up to the evening?

Yes I will be accompanied by Donna and Nikki. It’s a pleasure and honour to have the support of the ladies. They have helped and given me such great advice, I feel very lucky to have them on my team this year.

There has been a lot of talk with regards to the entries competing to represent Ireland at the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and whilst it has been mixed, one could denote that there has been a somewhat positive perception. The interest in the competition seems to be growing and the mentors are taking it extremely serious. Name one of the other four entries competing against you on which would not only secure qualification for Ireland but achieve the potentially best result in years, even better than the recent eighth place achieved by Jedward?

As much as I would love to name just the one, I find it nearly impossible. The acts this year in my opinion would all qualify. Every song and act have a certain something that could be brought to the table. I think Ireland is tired of last few unsuccessful wins and this year’s contestants really show how serious we are taking it.

In recent days, it seems that you have been quite busy with rehearsals of the performance of Fire whilst in the meantime, artists from all around the country and beyond have come to your aid endorsing your participation and granting you the possibility of gaining momentum. Amongst the acts who have come to your aid, there have been Michelle Heaton from Liberty X, Niall Horan from One Direction and Niall Breslin. What can we expect out of the performance on Friday night and what does such support mean to you personally?

You can definitely expect a show and it’ll be something you won’t forget! The support means everything to me. From growing up listening to some of these artist and admiring them to now having their support is beyond anything I could ever think of and having Bressie and Niall show their support is so appreciated. I really respect these guys. 

One of the key moments in history for Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest was the noteworthy twelve points given back in 1993 which lead to the victory of Niamh Kavanagh with the track In Your Eyes with the nations having a successful relationship since then. This year, the country has selected a newcomer by tha name of Gianluca Bezzina to head to the competition with the track Tomorrow co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek. What do you make of it's chance to succeed within the second semi-final?

I think Gianluca has as much of a great chance of winning as everyone else. It really depends on what the people genuinely like but as we know all will be revealed on the night.

Melodifestivalen is somewhat keeping an intriguingly low profile thus far considering that Sweden is hosting this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest but nevertheless, SVT is making sure that showcase is successful and as a matter of fact, viewing rates have been stunning thus far. The fourth and final semi-final will be taking place this Saturday evening and based on just the names of the artists, it will surely be a firecracker with two potential winners competing. As a matter of fact, the first are a group who barely need any introduction within a European front following their success during the nineties where they defined a distinctively different form of pop. Army of Lovers will take to the stage in Malmö Arena, the venue of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest to perform the song Rockin' The Ride written by Per QX, Andreas Öhrn and Henrik Wikström.

Several individuals were somewhat disappointed when the nineties came to an end because as a decade, they had introduced a brand new genre of music, Eurodance which technically speaking was a merge between pop and dance. The noughties sought to change the meaning and indeed, the electronic sound became more predominant and groups such as Army of Lovers were somewhat coming to an end altogether yet seeing you back to compete in the 2013 edition of Melodifestivalen is stunning. What reignited the comeback and was is the plan that will follow?

We had a great track in the studio - written and produced by Gravitonas -  which suited Army Of Lovers perfectly. Universal Music wanted to release the track as a brand new Army Of Lovers single and then Swedish Television heard about it and the rest is history.

Turning back the years, and going back to 1991, it was the highlight of your careers or rather the first noting that your single Crucified managed to reach the top ten in at least seven countries including Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States leading to more success with the follow-up single entitled Obsession which managed to peak at number #2 in Sweden along with at least four top ten positions in Finland, Germany, The Netherlands and Switzerland. When coming up with the idea of Army of Lovers, did you believe that success in such a manner was possible and how was it to garner credibility and fame?

We never thought about whether we would be successful or not. We just wanted to do our own thing, our way.

In the 2013 edition of the Melodifestivalen, you are set to be competing with the track entitled Rockin’ the Ride has been penned by the male members of the group alongside Per QX, Andreas Öhrn and Henrik Wikström. This is a team which has worked with Alcazar, Carola, Shirley Clamp and Robyn amongst others and thus needs no real is necessary. The focus here is the track and many people are asking what is to be expected from the song and will it has that charm that the group has been known to present over the years, considering the fact that there has been quite a long period of hiatus?

You will find out on February 23. "Rockin' The Ride" has been described as a merger between Gangnam Style and Swedish House Mafia which we guess sums it up pretty well. 

One of the Alexander Bard projects which many people will remember apart from this will surely be the group known as Bodies Without Organs (BWO) which had a lot of exposure at the Melodifestivalen competition having taken part a total of four times, the first time in 2005 with the track Gone, second time round with the song Temple of Love in 2006, then came Lay Your Love on Me in 2008 and last but not least You’re Not Alone in 2009. From non-qualification into the final to runner-up finishes, it was a rollercoaster ride but what did you take from each experience and what do you plan to bring as you compete this time round?

Alexander was a member of BWO but Jean-Pierre and La Camilla are participating in Melodfestivalen for the first time. Not that it makes much of a difference, we all three have lots of TV experience before and different TV shows are actually quite a lot alike. 

If one does indeed take up the amount of studio albums that you have released into the music market, there would be four along with another one being a different type of release directed for the United States, therefore amounting to five. These were indeed followed by two compilation albums of hits which you released throughout the years and then also a remix album this comeback is seemingly getting your strong fan base excited as Army of Lovers are back with a band and also a brand new album. Would you care to tell us some details about the album and when it should be released to the market?

The album is called "Big Battle Of Egos" and is set for release in March. It will feature four brand new tracks, "Rockin' The Ride" plus three more brand new tracks and potential follow-up singles. The rest of the album is a compilation of Army Of Lovers classic hits, released for a new generation.

This year, the Eurovision Song Contest will be taking place in Sweden and according to the bookmakers, Army of Lovers are one of the acts that is being considered as a strong contender to represent the nation on home soil yet the first task is set forth for the 23rd February in the fourth semi-final which SVT will be hosting in Malmö, the city which will indeed be the host of the international showcase. How do you view such a scenario and do you believe that a victory is possible?

Of course Army Of Lovers would be happy to compete for Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest and Sweden would do well to finally send a proper LGBT act this year, like Dana International from Israel and Verka Serduchka from Ukraine before. But it is up to the Swedish TV audience to decide. 

The Melodifestivalen competition has played a major role in the Swedish charts in the past couple of years considering that it receives major promotion throughout the weeks that it takes place and ultimately ranks as more viewed that the actual Eurovision Song Contest when figures are released at the end of the year. Why do you think that the Swedish competition for the international showcase has gained such prestige and if you had the opportunity to change to suggest something to improve it in future editions, what would it be?

The problem is that the Melodifestivalen has much higher artistic standards than Eurovision. Too many countries send bad entries with crappy and unimaginative songs to Eurovision which always surprised us. Eurovision is after all an amazing opportunity for promotion of new music, so why not send the best a country can offer? 

Countries within the Scandinavian region have been quite busy in recent weeks when it comes to their respective music scenes, hosting their national selections in a manner which is spread out in a series of semi-finals so that each artist gets equal exposure. In Norway, NRK has worked towards creating the Melodi Grand Prix in the past couple of years and with a brand new Head of Delegation in the form of Vivi Stenberg, they sought to keep the elements that have made the show successful in recent years. escflashmalta.com had the opportunity to speak to one of the finalists, Annsofi whose entry I'm With You is written by Alexander Rybak, who won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2009.

Annsofi is definitely not a newcomer to the Norwegian music scene having reached the second runner-up position in the X Factor having been mentored by the successful manager, Jan Fredrik Karlsen who was the mastermind behind Kurt Nilsen, the most successful winner of the show. Nevertheless, you are presenting yourself to the rest of the continent by virtue of taking part of this competition and therefore, how would you sum up your musical background n just a couple of sentences?

I have always loved music. One of my first memories is when I held a spontaneous concert for the passengers on my first plane trip. I cannot have been more than 3 or 4 years. As a kid, I sung in a children’s choir, and my first national TV appearance was at the 2010 edition of the program Last Choir Standing with 2005 MGP-winners Wig Wam’s Åge Sten “Glam” Nilsen’s choir. We won, and later that year I came third in the X Factor. Since that, I have – in addition to focusing on school – been working on my own songs, both in studio and on stage.

Norway has not been one of the most successful countries at the Eurovision Song Contest, holding the record for the most last place finishes in the competition, totalling to eleven with the most recent coming in 2012 by virtue of Stay as performed by Tooji. You are presenting a completely different entry for the Scandinavian nation entitled I’m With You written by the extremely talented, Alexander Rybak. What do you think went wrong with last years’ participation and what do you aim to bring, should you represent Norway?

It’s hard for me to say what went wrong. It seems like the kind of song that wins varies from year to year. But Euphoria was… well, euphoric, and it would have been difficult to beat that. I guess two out of three acts that have won for Norway, have had a violin and a touch of folk music in them, so… At least there are violins in I’m With You.

As already noted, your entry is written by Alexander Rybak who just happens to be the last performer to bring success to Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest, winning thecompetition back in 2009 with the track Fairytale. There is a certain aura about the track that does make it stand out from the rest and your raspy vocals give it the needed edge to success. How did the collaboration between you and Alexander come about and are you happy with the final product that is I’m With You?

Alexander is an extreme perfectionist. There are no compromises, whatsoever. So we’re all very happy with the result. The collaboration started with Alex becoming my mentor during the X Factor in 2010. We became friends, and since then I have sung with him on a couple of Christmas concerts, and sang Baby It’s Cold Outside with him on his Christmas Tales album. Since late 2011, we’ve been working on a couple of songs in the studio, of which I’m With You is one of them.

Competing in the second semi-final of the Melodi Grand Prix must have been quite daunting considering that the public were quite disappointed with the quality of tracks presented in the first semi-final but when hearing the tracks as released on the previous Wednesday, one could not deny that the quality was set to improve and indeed, it has and this has been shown even in terms of viewing figures. What did it mean to you to make it through to the final, albeit taking that third position and do you intend to change anything for the final?

I was, of course, very happy to go to the final, and we’ve been working on every detail since the semi to make sure we’ll do our best in the final. This time, however, Alex will be present, not on stage, but in the songwriters’ area. When at the semi, he was busy with his own concert. I’ll be honoured to perform the song with him present.

The amount of support we’ve received from abroad – even as far as from Malta – is very touching, and make me want to focus even more on the job that I am to do in the final. It would be a dream of mine to be able to perform this song to the people of Europe. Thank you, and all the best, Annsofi.

Gianluca Bezzina is the twenty-three year old doctor who will be representing Malta in the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Malmö, Sweden. Despite being a relative newcomer to the competition, he has been around for the past three years as the lead vocalist of the indie/alternative band known as Funk Initiative whose debut single Paris was a smash hit on the local radio stations including a number #1 chart position on 89.7 Bay. In 2011, they were nominated for the Best Newcomer Awards at the Malta Music Awards and the Bay Music Awards respectively and this gave them the courage to continue and more singles were released including The Liberators and My Robot Monkey Army Is Better Than Yours.

Following his victory at the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tomorrow co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek, escflashmalta.com had the opportunity to chat with Gianluca about what being in the competition felt to him especially denoting that this was his debut, following in the footsteps of his sister Dorothy who was taking part for the fourth year. The video interview deals with the upcoming preparations as they head onto Malmö, Sweden where he will be competing in the first half of the second semi-final alongside a host of nations including recent winners; Azerbaijan and Norway amongst others. RTÉ, the Irish broadcaster responsible for the participation of the country at the Eurovision Song Contest has proudly renewed interest in the event following consecutive disappointing results by virtue of picking up a number of selected individuals, coined them as mentors and give them the opportunity to present their own act and entry with a public and regional jury vote representing the final result seeing to the selection of Jedward on both occasions, in 2011 with Lipstick which finished in eighth place in Dusseldorf. Germany and then in 2012 with with Waterline which despite qualification, could only managed twentieth in Baku, Azerbaijan. We have been in contact with several of our main sources about the upcoming selection process in Ireland and it seems that the line-up will be predominantly female, with the possibility of only one male, although the negotiations are still underway for about two mentors. 

Zoe Bohorquez is the first name which is seemingly confirmed and it seems that her mentor will be none other than Niall Mooney who is known in the Eurovision Song Contest for having co-written the tracks; Et Cetera in 2009 and It's for You in 2010. In the meantime, it is worth noting that his material has been competing all around the continent including in Malta where his track Topsy Turvy performed by Janvil managed to finish in the tenth place during the 2011 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. In the meantime, according to a number of insiders, escflashmalta.com can exclusively confirm that Melanie McCabe who has achieved notoriety through the British version of the X Factor is a sure thing and thus confirmed to be competing in the Late Late Eurosong 2013 special which will see someone head to the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ireland. 

The other acts which are apparently in negotiations but gearing up to take up their role as contestants are Leanne Moore who is fourth favourite according to the recent betting odds and Rebecca Creighton who was also on the X Factor, having reached the live stages as part of a girlband leaving in the first couple of weeks. The latter is also seemingly confirmed but we have not received a complete green light on her participation. Different people in life have inspired me to write music as well as the experiences I've been through and generally my opinions about the world.'

Lyndsay has garnered a respectable reputation in the Maltese Islands following the success of the track Love Sick which saw her nominated for Best Solo Artist at the Bay Music Awards in 2010 and 2011 as well as the Malta Music Awards in 2011 respectively, missing out to the likes of Christabelle and Mikaela.
