In recent years, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has been the only local platform for songwriters and vocalists to produce original songs in English, but that has officially changed with the re-introduction of the Summer Hit Song Contest which returns to F Living as from the 14th July 2014. A total of 18 entries got through to the final stage of the competition with no less than 8 of them having already made it to the top of the music scene by virtue of reaching the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on at least one previous occasion.

We're going to chat to ALL the artists in contention so that you, our readers will have the opportunity to get to know them better. The fourteenth artist in our series of interviews is Christian Azzopardi, and the song which he is presenting bears the name "Another Night in Heaven" composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Rita Pace.

In Malta, the Eurovision Song Contest is a major outlet for the music industry, but then again, with such a mindset, what role does the return of the Summer Hit Song Contest have in your opinion and would you like it to be part of the music calendar?

Apart from the Malta Eurovision, the Summer Hit song contest is the only festival here in Malta where we can sing with the English language. I believe that it is very important that there is at least one festival were singers can sing in English apart from the Malta Eurovision. This contest give a lot of exposure to the singers and therefore I believe that it should take place every year.

Christian, this is not your first time in the Summer Hit Song Contest, having previously taken part with “Caruso” written by Clinton Paul and “Labyrinth” composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Mark Amaira. How did those experiences help you become the artist you have become today?

Each experience is different and it leaves a lot of positivity with it. the first time I have participated in the Summer Hit Song Contest was back in 2010 with the song 'Caruso' where I classified at the third place with the jury vote. In 2011 I have participated with an ethnic style song called  'Labyrinth'.

Would you kindly introduce your entry to our readers and also identify the meaning behind the lyrics?

The song that I have for this year is called 'Another Night in Heaven' composed by Philip Vella and written by Rita Pace. It is a dance song. The lyrics are about a couple where the male is telling his girlfriend that when he is with her, he is in heaven after they have found each other again.

One of the key elements which have transpired upon the return of the Summer Hit Song Contest is the promotion of each artist and entry. How has f living re-defined the competition and what has been the general public reaction?

F Living gave a lot of exposure to the singers and also made the competition more interesting and of pleasure to all of us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people of f-living and the organisers of the contest for this great opportunity. The reaction of the public was fantastic as when I meet people they tell me that they have saw me on f-living and also many people are enjoying watching the programme.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

Thank a lot! :) Always!
