Going back a couple of years, a local would surely remember the annually held "Ghanja tal-Poplu" festival which was a showcase of local talent within the Maltese language as previewed in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. For a number of years, the songs submitted into the festival were of a very high quality and despite the fact that the show deteriorated over the years, the people who are winning still represent a lot of musical quality.

The "Ghanja tal-Poplu" showcase was first held back in 1973 and went on to take place every year till 1987 with a few years in limbo before making another return in 1990, a year off and then a comeback. Within the 90's the entries that won the festival were very strong and that is why ESCflashmalta.com would like to commend the organising committee back then. In recent years though, the festival was taken up by a different organisation and that is why a number of regulations were changed in order to satisfy singer/songwriters in an aim to bring back personal talent back to the show. You can view the history of the show just by clicking here.
