Andorra: RTVA Not Looking to Return in 2013Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
A small nation which somewhat borders another two countries is that of Andorra and they were represented on a national scale within the Eurovision Song Contest for a couple of years noting that they sent entries on six consecutive occasions from 2004 till 2009 failing to make it through to the final stage of the competition unfortunately despite being very close in 2007 when they were represented by the group Anonymous and their track entitled Salvem El Mon. There have been a number of talks in recent years about them coming back but attempts have proven futile.
Ingrid Delterne, the General Director of the European Broadcasting Union has just finished an official state visit to Andorra where she met with top notch officials in the country including Antoni Marti from the Goverment and even Francesc Robert from the broadcaster; RTVA to talk about the possibility of the country returning to the competition for their seventh participation. Unfortunately, despite the hospitality, the efforts failed and it seems that due to budgetary reasons, the country cannot return to the competition in 2013.
It is important to note that during their time of participation, they did pull out all of the stops in their final two presentations noting that Gisela is already well known in Spain whilst Susanne Georgi is quite famous in Denmark but nevertheless, both did not manage to impress unfortunately with their tracks Casanova and La teva decisió (Get a Life) finishing in sixteenth and fifteenth place respectively.
