Luxembourg: RTL Still Unsure about Eurovision 2013Written by Ryan Axisa
Till now, 24 countries have confirmed to share their music with the millions of viewers of Europe’s favourite show for next year which is the Eurovision Song Contest which is to be held in Malmo, Sweden after Loreen’s well-deserved win.
A country which is deeply-missed from this contest is surely Luxembourg. The country played it’s fortune in the contest for 37 years with their last appearance back in 1993 when the band Modern Times ended up in the 20th place with just eleven (11) points. Octavie Modert (The minister in charge of culture) said that the decision regarding their 2013 participation depends on the broadcaster’s decision as the costs are relatively high. Although he also said that the country didn’t achieve great success in the past, one has to keep in mind that the country managed to win this prestigious contest five times in total.
Their withdrawal was due to the bad results that the country had achieved in the last couple of years that they had presented entries. Nevertheless, one has to point out that the best placing garnered in recent years was when Lara Fabian performed the song Croire and managed to finish in fourth place. This was the beginning of a long and successful career for the performer who is very much well known all over the world. We’d really like to see this country back on track so the Eurovision season would be more interesting and as they say; the more, the merrier!.
