In 1956, following the aftermath of the Second World War, it was decided that a music competition was to be held, eyeing to strengthen the economy and lighten up the mood. It is quite remarkable, that the same competition, the Eurovision Song Contest is still running strong in 2015. In previous days, we featured Deo Grech, and his reviews, interviewed one of the acts, and also publishing any visual resources which our team is bound to produce.

With such a strong following in Malta, escflashmalta.com has enlisted the support of nine celebrities in Malta, all of whom are familiar faces in the music industry, who will help assess the quality of the songs, and also the vocalists, in what has been coined as an extremely interesting edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, full of emotion and quality.

During the first semi-final (19th May), the dubious honour will be given to; Lyndsay, a female singer/songwriter who has been through to the semi-final stage of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, apart from having countless hits on local airwaves, "Letter 25" and "Daphne"; Christabelle, a two-time participant in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and most notably the first runner-up late in 2014 with the song "Rush". and finally, Marilena Gauci, a female vocalist who has also twice been to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, and also being a former representative at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

During the second semi-final (21st May), the chosen celebrity bloggers include; Karen DeBattista, a female vocalist and winner of L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2014 with "Jien Ma Naħdimx" as well as to being a finalist in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015; Marie Claire Attard Bason, another female vocalist who has been a part of the local festival circuit for a couple of years, getting through to the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, L-Għanja tal-Poplu and the Summer Hit Song Contest on several occasions and Claudia Faniello, a female singer/songwriter, sister of two-time representative Fabrizio Faniello, and a two-time runner-up in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

During the final night (23rd May), the dubious honour will be given to; Brooke Borg, a female singer/songwriter whose local radio releases have led to her being nominated for Best Single, and Best Solo Artist on countless occasions; Davinia, a female singer/songwriter who has taken part in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions, even finishing in 3rd place back in 2013 with the song "Betrayed", and last but not least; Danica Muscat, an artist who kicked off her career in the Junior Eurosong, before reaching the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on at least 3 occasions.

Since 2011, all songs competing in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, have not been published through a compilation album, as previously done, and therefore a number of record labels such as CAP-Sounds stepped in, releasing a number of songs on digital platforms such as; iTunes, Deezer, Amazon and Spotify for the general public to purchase or stream.

"12, Baker Street" written by Jan Van Dijck and Emil Calleja Bayliss, and, "Close Your Eyes" written by Elton Zarb and Emil Calleja Bayliss, performed by Karen DeBattista and Danica Muscat are the latest songs which have been released through the German based company, CAP-Sounds, who have a distribution deal in place with Universal Music Germany.

"Still Here" written by Alexander Rybak, "Chasing a Dream" written by Paul Abela and Joe Julian Farrugia as well as "Something in the Way" written by Mans Ek and Charlie Mason, "Rush" written by Elton Zarb and Matthew Mercieca, performed by Franklin Calleja, Trilogy, Daniel Testa and Christabelle were published days following the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

Three of the aforementioned songs have managed to peak at number #2 or better, signally the intent of the public in purchasing the most successful songs from the competition. 'The Celebrity Night' is the new Saturday night show which will be broadcast at 20:30 on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off a couple of weeks ago, revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Christabelle,  a female vocalist, who gained notoriety as a result of her first runner-up finish in the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Rush", written by Elton Zarb and Matthew Mercieca, is clearly on a high, and the most current guest on this evening's programme. She will be joined by another female guest, Angie Brown, a legendary singer/songwriter from South London, whose hit singles include "Took My Love" and "I'm Gonna Get You", the latter of which she performed on The Voice UK just a couple of months ago.

The third personality to feature this week is none other than male singer/songwriter, Kurt Calleja who knows all too well the pressures of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, having taken part on three occasions, before eventually winning the ticket in 2012. His entry "This Is The Night", co-written with Johan Jämtberg and Mikael Gunnerås was a surprise winner, yet also won the hearts of Europe when  it qualified to the final in Baku, Azerbaijan. This week's final personality is Andrew Zahra, a composer who requires no introduction whatsoever having been responsible for songs such as "L-Arka tal-Libertà", "Fomm il-Vjolin", "Stejjer", "Topsy Turvy" and "Let it Shine".

After an amazing show, we got to know who will be the 14 (fourteen) competing in the Maltese National Final tomorrow evening. There are some of the qualifiers which were a bit of a surprise to see them go through to the next stage, but after tonight's performances, we can say that all the acts did brilliantly and it was a wonderful show.

At the end of the evening, there were 6 eliminated acts; Lyndsay, Iona Dalli, Raquel, Domenique, Danica and Corazon. People in the venue were surprised at the outcome, noting that there were seriously surprised to see Danica and Raquel miss out on a place in the final. The only explaination for this, is to ensure that there is diversity in terms of genres.

MESC 2015: In-Depth Interview with Christabelle

On the 21st and 22nd November, the Public Broadcasting Services will be hosting the 2014-2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest at the Marsa Shipbuilding. 20 acts will be taking centre stage, in hope of representing the country at next year's edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, being held in Vienna, Austria. Over the next couple of weeks, escflashmalta.com will be publishing a series of interviews with all the participants. Whilst thanking the Public Broadcasting Services for this opportunity, Let's continue and follow things up with Christabelle.

Would you kindly introduce your entry to our readers and also identify the meaning behind the lyrics?

My song is called Rush, it is written by Matthew Muxu Mercieca and composed by Elton Zarb.

My song basically sums up my life. The title in itself says it all – RUSH. The song has a two fold meaning. The first one being, my hectic, on the go daily routine but on a deeper level it also refers to the strong emotion that conquers your body when you find yourself deeply in love.

In Malta, the Eurovision Song Contest is considered to be a major outlet for the music industry, and you stand here as one of the semi-finalists. What does the whole experience mean to you?

The experience gained from this festival will remain with me throughout my career, mostly because of the exposure that comes with it. As stated above, this contest is the largest one in our country and Maltese citizens are very intrigued and follow attentively therefore it is an honour to be part of it. It is also substantial to not exclude the fact that through this experience you meet many new people, through the contest itself and also in the process leading up to the final night.

Recently, Malta has been rather successful at the Eurovision Song Contest, making the final on four of the last five participation attempts. What do you think is the reason for this success, and do you believe that your entry has what it takes to continue this positive trend?

I always choose to perform songs that I believe in. The success is not only derived from the performer but from all the hard working people behind the scenes and the supporters.

If you were given the opportunity to sing another one of the competing entries in the 2014-2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, which one would it be and why?

It is quite a controversial question as there are plenty of very good songs, but now that I have put so much work and time in to my song I would not change it for the world.

Do you have any plans to release more music in the future, and do you have any particular projects in the pipeline?

I will definitely release new songs to maintain the public interest in my music and to also make myself happy by creating music that keeps me being so enthusiastic about this passion of mine.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

Keep on reading this blog especially if you are interest in the Eurovision song contest as it is very informative. On the other hand I would like to wish my heartfelt good luck to our Superstar Federica Falzon for Junior Eurovision. Hope you enjoy watching both the semi-final and the final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and if you are pleased with my performance don’t hesitate to grab your phone and vote for me :D
