In less than 4 weeks, on the 18th February, Malta shall be choosing the next representative, and entry to represent Malta in the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place in Kiev, Ukraine.
Details about the most anticipated music event of the year have been emerging in recent weeks, with the final 16 artists drawn into a running order, the hosts made public, and tickets becoming available.
The line-up for this year’s edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest consists of a group of artists who have grown up in the public eye, some of which are making their debut in the competition, and others who can be termed as veterans. Two of those so-called veterans will be opening and closing in the running order, which can be viewed in full below;
The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is taking place at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) for the very first time since 2013 when Gianluca Bezzina, a newcomer at the time had stormed to victory with his happy-go-lucky entry, “Tomorrow”, co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat.
The event shall be hosted by Daniel Azzopardi and Charlene Mercieca, neither a television host but both well-known with the public, with the latter having recently been in the public eye following a battle with cancer, and the latter being a leading male actor in the series ‘Strada Stretta’.
On behalf of the editorial team at escflashmalta.com, we would like to wish everyone all the very best of luck in this year’s edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Should you wish to support the contestants, purchase your tickets. Stay tuned to this portal as well as Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.
Michelle Mifsud, a female singer/songwriter who has been on a roller-coaster ride for the past 12 months, having accompanied the group Firelight at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Coming Home", written by Richard Edwards Micallef, making it through to the final stage of the competition, and eventually going onto release an album, one entitled "Talk Dirty". She will be sharing the female spotlight with a relatively young performer, isabelleluca, who has been studying in the United Kingdom, hoping to create music with an international sound.
Klinsmann, a popular face among the younger generation, and recently fronting a band called Planet Seed, which topped the local radio charts, on more than one occasion. The male singer/songwriter has been relatively quiet in the past couple of months, not too mention shying away from the festival circuit almost entirely. Apart from denoting his participation back in 2007 with "She Gives Me Wings", written by Mark Spiteri Lucas and Rita Pace, Klinsmann also had a popular duet with Ben, entitled "This Love" which he co-wrote with Jonathan Spiteri.
This and much more during this week's episode of 'The Celebrity Night' which airs on Saturday night at 20:30 on F Living Channel. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

Kylie, a female vocalist whose credits include participation in both the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is back with "Someday Soon", a new single composed by Carlo Gerada to the lyrics of Matthew Mercieca, recently co-responsible for Davinia's radio hit "Ouch!". For several years, Kylie was known as the younger sister of Klinsmann, currently front-man of the band Planet Seed, for the simple reason that he had achieved status on the first time of asking, by virtue of finishing in third place at the 2007 edition of the Malta Song for Europe, behind Olivia Lewis and Trilogy.
Kylie made her impact in the local music scene by reaching the final of the Malta Eurosong competition in 2009, with her entry "Let It Shine" languishing in a bottom position. It was not a taste of things to come with success following in the next couple of years. In the meantime, "Someday Soon" marks the first original song in English for the female vocalist since the track "Day After Day" which competed in the 2011 edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, which in turn is making it's return on F Living this weekend. The song, a mixture of genres, is progressive and gives the listener a good vibe. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news from the local music scene.

In 2010, the first runner-up at the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza was none other than Gloriana Arpa Belli, a relative minnow in the local music industry. Her song entitled Fil-Mużika composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Doris Chetcuti almost upset the eventual winner Trid Tapprezza composed by Ray Agius to the lyrics of Alfred C Sant with vocals provided by Amber with just a handful of votes deciding the final result. escflashmalta.com is in a position to reveal that Gloriana intends to make her mark by entering the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014 framework by contributing to the submissions.
Gloriana Arpa Belli might be a relative unknown but nevertheless, her experience within the music scene should be well respected having been a backing vocalist for several notable artists including the likes of Anna Azzopardi, a two time Malta Eurovision Song Contest participant. Her genealogical background is quite intriguing as well, noting that her mother is none other than Helen Micallef, Malta's 1972 representative with her uncle being Renato, Malta's 1975 representative. This means that one day, Gloriana might continue keeping participation at the Eurovision Song Contest within the family.
Gloriana is the first artist to confirm submission into the Malta Eurovision Song Contest without having previously been a part of the showcase. At this point in time, escflashmalta.com has exclusively revealed that former runners-up; Janvil, Eleanor Cassar, Richard Edwards, Tiziana Calleja and Kaya will all be trying their luck whilst veterans Nadine Axisa and Klinsmann will be opting out of the selection process. Davinia, last years' second runner-up confirmed submission on the programme; TVPM hosted by Corazon. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more EXCLUSIVE news about the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014.
In 2007, Klinsmann made his debut within the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the track She Gives Me Wings composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas to the lyrics of Rita Pace and for the next six consecutive years found his way into at least the semi-final stage of the competition. In fact, his last participation was earlier this year as he presented a track entitled The Remedy composed by Philip Vella and Magnus Kaxe with lyrics by Gerard James Borg.
escflashmalta.com is in a position to confirm that after seven consecutive years, Klinsmann will not be submitting a song for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014. On a post on his Official Page on Facebook, he stated 'I'm not gonna take part as a performer this year. I'm gonna give it a miss after 7 consecutive years.' Technically speaking, it could very much mean that Klinsmann could join another act on stage as a band member or possibly co-write an entry, something which he is getting accustomed to do alongside his band, Planet Seed. This is the second former Malta Eurovision Song Contest to confirm absence from the event at the first hurdle following the likes of Nadine Axisa. More stories will be unveiled by escflashmalta.com in the coming days, so stay tuned.

Gianluca, the male artist who represented Malta in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the track Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat will be making a guest appearance on the weekly variety show, Sas-Sitta which airs on NET Television between 14:35 and 18:00 CET. The programme produced by Spiteri Lucas Entertainment features a quiz in every programme and Gianluca will be joined by his sister Dorothy as they play against Klinsmann and Kylie Coleiro, both former finalists of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.
Sas-Sitta, collaborators of escflashmalta.com for the Annual Awards given in light of the national selection is hosted by Ray Attard and Debbie Scerri, the latter having also represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1997, performing the track Let Me Fly written by Ray Agius to finish in ninth place. The male host alongside comedian Toni Busuttil will also be showcasing their vocal skills as they impersonate famous singers for the very last time, whilst accompanied by the programmes' band led by Mark Spiteri Lucas, one of the most successful composers in the local music industry. A spectacular afternoon on NET Television, which will also be aided with some dancing offered by Keith Dance Studio. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

In the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, escflashmalta.com asked the media to select the best entry in their opinion and there was unanimous agreement amongst them that this was The Remedy performed by Klinsmann. The former runner-up of the local competition is now offering his vocals to the band known as Planet Seed which also features Stefan Farrugia on lead guitars, Liam Spiteri on bass player, Chris Galea on drums and Etienne Scicluna on keyboards. Planet Seed describe themselves as an alternative rock band citing Muse, Lifehouse, U2, Audio Slave, Coldplay, Train and Goo Goo Dolls as their prime music influences.
Since forming back in 2010, they have been performing a string of cover versions across the Maltese Islands but then, in 2012, this change when they released their very first original single entitled It's Gonna Be OK peaking at numbver #1 on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay. This was definitely the beginning of something beyond their expectation and garnering a nomination for Best Newcomers at the Bay Music Awards was the cherry on the cake. Their latest single entitled Want You To Know has a predominantly different character within the same genre that the group is trying to encompass. It has also peaked at number #1 before being displaced this week by The Crowns and their latest release Home. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about the local music scene.

It has been a great start to what looks like an amazing week full of live music – the Beland Music Festival kicked off in spectacular fashion last night with the participation of local heartthrob Kevin Borg who serenaded the crowd with his magical voice and charisma. The Beland Music Festival this year moved from the Market Square to Bulebel and one can say that the move was a success, the festival got bigger and if today’s concert was anything to go by one can easily say it got even better.
Barber’s Cut, a new upcoming band led by Kelly Busuttil opened proceedings and got the crowd going; showing that they indeed have potential. The audience seemed to have enjoyed the relatively unknown band, who mixed it up playing some of the most popular hits. They were followed by the talented Glen Vella and Pamela, who entertained the crowd with a number of popular cover versions. As the time went on, the crowd got bigger and bigger, everyone awaiting the arrival of Kevin Borg and when he finally took the stage Kevin received a hero’s welcome in Bulebel.
He kicked off proceedings with his Swedish Idol Winner’s single With Every Bit of Me and continued with a mix of cover versions and songs from his own repertoire. He closed the first part of the concert with his Malta Eurovisision entry, Needing You, where he was accompanied by former Eurovision representative Glen Vella, Pamela, Josef Tabone and Janice Mangion. The second part of the show was as strong and the crowd cherished every moment with cheering, waving and singing at the top of their lungs to Kevin’s hits. Kevin was clearly moved and described the event as being even better than his Swedish Idol final as he had never expected so many people to attend the event in aid of Puttinu Cares.
Kevin encouraged the people to attend and donate to this genuine cause. Tonight’s music festival will feature Malta’s top female artist – Ira Losco is set to take the stage for her first Summer gig and her first gig after the launch of her album The Fire which proved to be a major success. She is expected to sing some of her latest songs along with a few numbers from her previous records, she will be supported by The New Victorians an up and coming band and also Planet Seed fronted by Klinsmann. For more details on what to expect during the Beland Music Festival you can visit the programme here or their official Facebook Page.
It is important to note that on Thursday, the organizers behind the Beland Music Festival saw it fit to organize a big screen in order to support Malta’s bid in the Eurovision Song Contest – so we encourage you to join with your family and friends, grab your Maltese flags and on Thursday go and watch the Second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Bulebel as part of the Beland Music Festival. The atmosphere is expected to be electrifying as there is nothing more special than cheering for the Maltese representative together and creating a mini Eurovision atmosphere here in Malta.
Apart from enjoying the live music for a great cause, at the Beland Music Festival you can chill and relax, there’s a children’s area and a number of stalls where people can just sit there as the concert is ongoing. There is something for all the family and for all the music lovers it is something you surely can’t miss as apart from donating towards Puttinu Cares you would be also supporting the local talent who invest so much time and effort to deliver a great product. So make sure to visit the Beland Music Festival and donate something for a great cause. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.
It has been quite an intriguing time with all of the selections going round in the continent and with even more additions to the list today. Many comment on the element that this edition of the Eurovision Song Contest might need some sprucing up but let's wait for the final versions before commenting. We would like to invite you to the weekly Ultimate Eurovision Experience. Apart from the means of FM Radio in the Netherlands on FM 106.8 and the audio stream from the studio via www.radiointernational.tv and on Digital Cable 781 & cable 88.1Mhz in the Netherlands, the show will also be web-televised via the Radio International TV Channel from the studio and linking up the many international Eurovision fans and friends and play your requests and read your messages out on air. The simulcast will be from 2000 – 2300 hours CET when Eurovision fans can join in and chat amongst each other via the Chat Room and request their favourite Eurovision entry.
The Eurovision Song Contest is somewhat keeping the attention on Sweden as the Melodifestivalen heads into the final gears in the next two weeks, culminating in the choice of who will represent the home country. The Team of Radio International tries to cover as much boundaries as possible and as a matter of fact, four artists have been interviewed from the fourth semi-final, two of which have managed to pass through to the final and another two which despite having received rave reviews have been eliminated. The nineties group Army of Lovers as well as the icon Sylvia Vrethammar feature in the latter category but Ulrik Munther and Ralf Gyllenhammar are the two mentioned in the former. Ulrik was one of the finalists last year, achieving a second runner-up finish and his entry Tell The World I'm Here is actually written by Thomas G:Son and Peter Bostrom who also co-wrote last years' winning entry Euphoria.
Despite the fact that the Malta Eurovision Song Contest was somewhat held in the beginning of February, we had the extreme pleasure to speak to most of the artists in contention and indeed, this weeks' turn turns to the fan favourite; Klinsmann whose entry The Remedy co-written by Philip Vella, Magnus Kaxe and Gerard James Borg was honoured with the Escflashmalta Media Award as well as Petra & Richard Edwards who performed the song Wonderful Today co-written by Richard and Wayne Micallef. They reached the final for the very first time as a duet, managing to rack up points from the juries and the public alike and finally managing a top ten position. One final interview that will be aired this evening is the one with Jon Ola Sand who assumed the role of Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest a couple of years back and will continue to develop the event into an international spectacle.
Radio International is always keen to present songs during the show apart from the weekly features and therefore, collaborating the two ideas together will see the emergence of Eurovision UnverCover whereas tracks performed at the Eurovision Song Contest will be covered by other singers. The actual tracks will be played first followed by the cover and this will make things interesting. Apart from this feature, there will be new material played on the show by a number of former representatives including Loreen and Zeljko Joksimovic. All of the latest news is also covered during the weekly broadcast noting resources from escflashmalta.com and escXtra where Luke Fisher, the Editor makes a weekly round-up. A round up of the national finals thus far is set to be conducted by Alasdair Rendall. Follow the show through the official website and also send your requests through the contact link which is found on the aforementioned website.
