With a population of just over 33,000 – San Marino has always had a hard time to find an act to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest. All the songs which they took part with have been produced internationally – and from eight participations in the contest, only three performers from the tiny microstate have taken to the Eurovision stage as lead performers. With this in mind, it is no surprise that San Marino RTV, in collaboration with UK company “Raff Raff Ltd.” have launched their search to find the so called “Internet candidate” for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest – set to be held next May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The aptly named contest “1 in 360” (1in360.com) invited performers from all corners of the world to take part in the Sammarinese selection process. To be in contention, interested persons were invited between October and November to be in contention for the process. A reported 1000 entries were received from approximately 80 countries – nineteen of those entries came from Maltese singers.

From the entries received, ten of them will make it to the live shows of the competition - set to take place between January and February next year. One of the final ten spots will be reserved for a Sammarinese artist, another will be selected from the vote of OGAE clubs across Europe, whilst the third will be given to the performer with the most “hearts” on the 1in360 online platform. The remaining seven spots will be chosen by the 1in360 organising team, in consultation with San Marino RTV.

Right now at the time of writing, the voting window is open to determine the candidate with the most votes on the 1in360 website – who will gain a spot in the final ten for the San Marino selection. Voting in this stage is open until midnight on December 10th. Below we introduce the Maltese candidates for the selection – to vote for them, click on their names and click the love heart in the top left corner of the screen.

'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Danica Muscat, a recognizable female vocalist, having had the opportunity to perform with Ornella Vanoni, The Priests and Pierdavide Carone, while taking part in the talent show “Io Canto”, hosted by Gerry Scotti on Canale 5. Upon her return to Malta, the young female vocalist has not ceased to put herself out there, getting through to the LIVE stages of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on no less than 3 occasions, the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza on a remarkable 4 successive tries, and also the Summer Hit Song Contest less than 12 months ago. She is part of the roster at Ironic PR & Artist Management, headed by Marc Calleja Bayliss.

Malcolm Pisani, a male vocalist, is the second guest of the programme. He started his singing career at the early age of ten years under the tuition of well-known vocal coaches. In recent years, he has seemingly conquered radio, through a string of original songs, written by Matthew Mercieca (Muxu) and produced by Carlo Gerada, the most recent being "Enough". It is worth noting that he has taken part in a number of music competitions, one of them being the Summer Hit Song Contest 2011, where his song "Ale'O" finished in second place with the general public. The third and final guest is Jean Pierre Cassar, a male actor, who played a lead role in the series D.R.E.A.M.S and is currently on "Ħbieb u Għedewwa".

This and much more during this week's episode of 'The Celebrity Night' which airs on Saturday night at 20:30 on F Living Channel. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

I, co-written by Carlo Gerada and Matt Mercieca with vocals provided by Malcolm Pisani, has just been released onto radio as a follow up to the hit single Got Me Good. The genre of the song is dance infused with dubstep, reflecting relationship advice in the form of lyrical prowess. Therefore, the message might be typical but given a fresh touch in composition.

Success of the track has already been measured thanks to airplay on 89.7 Bay where it has managed to enter and thus far peak at number #6 on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D. It is expected that a music video will accompany the release of I in the coming days with Clifford Xuereb and Manuel Pace being drafted in for a second time having been responsible for the music video of Got Me Good. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all the latest news from te local music industry.

Spring has clearly come to an end in the Maltese Islands with temperatures already going up meaning that summer is not too far behind and that could mean quite a number of interesting perspectives from the music industry with a number of artists prepping their releases. One of the individuals who will be launching a brand new single just this evening is none other than Malcolm Pisani who has been in hiatus over the past year but is returning with his seventh release entitled Danger (Ring The Alarm).

This brand new track is quite different to what he has released thus far noting that he has worked with a brand new team of songwriters featuring composer Siconix, one half of last years' winning team of the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest and lyricist Billy J who is quickly making a name for himself in the scene. The track will be debuted for the very first time this evening during a special event which is being held at BJ's in Paceville. The evenign will be quite interesting with Malcolm performing all of the singles in the past five years along with the new one. The event is open only by invitations which were cordially sent out in the lead up to the day. Stay tuned for more information on escflashmalta.com in the coming days and weeks.
