Rehearsals for this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest commenced on Monday and will be going through early next week including during the days where the semi-finals are planned.  We would like to invite you to the weekly Ultimate Eurovision Experience. In supporting the Eurovision Song Contest, Radio International will be airing a two week special entitled Eurovision 2013 Meets Eurovision 2013 which is basically as review of last years' entries in comparison to this years' entries. Denmark is the outright favourite in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with Emmelie de Forest and her entry Only Teardrops co-written by Lise Cable, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Thomas Stengaard. As a matter of fact, there is always a favourite which does well, along with another who will fall flat when it comes to the live performance. This is yet to be seen. In the meantime, Emmelie who is an extremely nice individual speaks to team of Radio International about competing in such a major showcase, her ancestral background and what she makes of the current situation in the polls, bookmakers and fan clubs. Moving onto another entry competing in the first semi-final, there is Zlata Ognevich who will be representing Ukraine with the song Gravity and according to the bookmakers, this currently ranks second behind Denmark. Zlata who has slight difficulty to speak in English is nevertheless a great performer and she speaks to Radio International and escflashmalta.com about her upcoming surprises, without revealing too much.

Apart from focusing on the first semi-final, it is always important to note that there is a second show and one which also includes a number of great songs including some fan favourites in the form of Greece whose entry Alcohol is Free performed by Koza Mostra featuring Agathonas has been setting the dancefloors alight. The team who have a great spirit speak about the song, the meaning behind it and what their expectations in Sweden during the Eurovision Song Contest are, especially considering that Greece has a reputation to uphold. One final interview from this semi-final is with PeR from Latvia whose entry bears the name Here We Go. It will be the opening act of the show but has not been receiving a lot of promotion as of late whilst somewhat destined to be another disappointment for the Baltic nation. The duo are great fun though and this adds to the spectacle of the Eurovision Song Contest. 

The final nation in the spotlight for this evenings' programme will be Amandine Bourgeois who will be representing France with L'Enfer et Moi. She has received great comments since her performance at the Eurovision in Concert and could surprise. There will also be a number of new releases played throughout the three hours, including Żarbun by Chiara which has already racked up more then 80,000 views in less than a week. L'Essenziale, co-written by Roberto Casalino, Francesco De Benedettis and Marco Mengoni, the latter of which also offers the vocal prowess will be representing Italy at the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. This is one of the most popular tracks in the nation at the moment, having won the Sanremo competition and ranking at number #1 on the singles chart for more than a month. In recent weeks, he has been to several television and radio broadcasters in Italy promoting both the single as well as the sophomore album entitled #PRONTOACORRERE but he made time to attend  the Eurovision In Concert within The Netherlands where fans and media alike swarmed him as one of the favourites in this years' international showcase.

Moldova will be represented in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest by Aliona Moon and her entry O Mie, which will be performed entirely in Romanian as opposed to the English language used during the national final. The track is co-written by Pasha Parfeny who took to the stage on behalf of the same nation last year, achieving one of the best results with his entry Lautur. This will be the first of five interviews, with six artists for the simple reason given above. Aliona will discuss the choice of language, apart from the idea of working with Pasha on the song following her accompaniment as a backing vocalist last year. Cezar will be representing Romania with his track It's My Life which is somewhat different from all the rest due to the fact that it is within a pop/opera genre which does not really follow a typical form in terms of song. One of the aforementioned writers has worked with Emeli Sande, Little Mix and One Direction, responsible for some of their major hits including Read All About It and Wings. Both gentlemen are ecstatic to get to the international showcase with the hope of doing their nation proud. It is important to spread the message of the country across in the best possible manner. The interviews in relation to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest have all been published and now with the Eurovision In Concert in tow, a series of new interviews with artists who were present will definitely be taking centre stage in the next couple of episodes. The team has planned a total of six for today, kicking things off with Ryan Dolan who will be representing Ireland in the first semi-final with his entry Only Love Survives. We had the opportunity to discuss several issues including his national final victory as well as his upcoming recording of the music video featuring a number of fans. Malta are yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest managing to finish in second place on two occasions, the first time in 2002 with Ira Losco and her entry 7th Wonder composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg as well as in 2005 with Chiara and her self-penned song Angel. Nevertheless, that does not mean that they are not putting their best efforts to work noting that this time round, they are seemingly giving the opportunity to Gianluca and his song Tomorrow as mentioned above. Portugal will not be taking part in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the broadcaster responsible for the participation, RTP caught in financial struggles and issues of privatisation but nevertheless, we expect them to return in due course. The country has never managed to finish on top of the leaderboard of the international spectacle and their last two participations were non-qualification attempts unfortunately. Filipa Sousa and her entry Vida Minha did not have the appropriate draw to carry her through to the final because the song was truly magical. We had the opportunity to speak to the former representative about her participation as well as her respective career at the moment. Nevertheless, this will not be the only interview from Portugal and this is due to the fact that we also had the chance to speak to one of the contenders in the 2012 national selection, Gerson Santos with his track Redescrobrir Portugal. Unfortunately the track was not well received and did not do well in the final, only managing one (1) point but nevertheless, that does not take away from the talents of any individual.

One of the most professional selections to take place during this years' national selection season is definitely the Malta Eurovision Song Contest noting that the show was produced at an extremely high quality production apart from the fact that most of the songs could have all been worthy representatives hence forth the public and the jury made different selections. One of the artists which we managed to interview during our annual stay is none other than two time finalist; Deborah C whose entry Love-O-Holic was composed by Johan Bejerholm to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg. The public had somewhat realised that this is a track with potential awarding it sixth place within the tele-voting with the jury giving it a slightly lower position nevertheless, enough to finish within the top ten at an extremely respectable ninth place which is definitely better than last years' disappointment. One of the most impressive national selections to take place in the lead up to this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest was surely the one in Malta which yielded twenty-four (24) semi-finalists brought down to sixteen (16) finalists out of which the eventual winner was the song Tomorrow performed by Gianluca with music and lyrics by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek. The songwriters of the winning entry had the opportunity to qualify with another two songs for this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest, one of them being the beautiful, charming ballad entitled Perfect Day with vocals provided by Janice DeBattista. The female artist has a lot of the resonance that Chiara is known to bring to the stage and considering that this was the first experience for her within the competition, making the final and achieving tenth place was definitely meaningful. We spoke to Janice about her career as a solo artist as well as her involvement within two bands, one being Salt and the other being Scarlet Sally.

Sweden will be hosting this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and during the past weekend, attention turned to the host nation for the simple reason that they were organising the final of Melodifestivalen and the Team of Radio International was on hand so chat with most of the finalists competing. We had the absolute pleasure to speak to the winner, Robin Stjernberg who came from the second chance round with the song You. The performer who was a runner-up on the show Idol a couple of years back is also working with first runner-up of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Kevin Borg on his latest album and is represented by Lionheart Music Group. In the meantime, the runner-up of the competition was Yohio with the track Heartbreak Hotel whom despite being the favourite of the public, had to settle for second place due to the disappointing result given by the international jury. Other interviews were carried out with David Lindgren who performed Skyline, Anton Ewald who sang the song Begging, Sean Banan who choreographed Copacabanana and last but not least Louise Hoffstein, the only female who graced the stage with the song Only The Dead Fish Follow The Stream.

The Melodifestivalen has always been one of the most prestigious events in Europe and therefore, the interval acts and people who give out the scores tend to be somewhat renowned either in the country or in the community of the Eurovision Song Contest. During the course of the evening, the interval was none other than Carola, who represented Sweden in the 1983, 1991 and 2006 edition of the international competition winning in 1991 with her performance of Captured by a Lovestorm. She performed her signature tune and first national hit, the 1983 entry entitled Framling which has been reworked for 2013. This years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be needing a lot of improvements in order to be elevated in quality but several broadcasters know that in order to do well, their tracks need to be slightly altered and the final versions presented to the European Broadcasting Union will surely denote this element. We would like to invite you to the weekly Ultimate Eurovision Experience. Apart from the means of FM Radio in the Netherlands on FM 106.8 and the audio stream from the studio via www.radiointernational.tv and on Digital Cable 781 & cable 88.1Mhz in the Netherlands, the show will also be web-televised via the Radio International TV Channel from the studio and linking up the many international Eurovision fans and friends and play your requests and read your messages out on air. The simulcast will be from 2000 – 2300 hours CET when fans can join in and chat amongst each other via the Chat Room and request their favourite Eurovision entry.

The premier focus of this past week has surely been the Beosong competition held in Serbia especially for the simple reason that the Former Yugoslavian country is coming off a stupendous third place finish last year with Zeljko Joksimovic and his entry Nije Ljubav Stvar. It is uncharacteristic for a song outside the ethnic ballad genre to triumph but this was certainly not the case this time round due to the fact that at the end of the evening, with around a different of five thousand votes, the group Moje 3 finished as the winners with the song Ljubav Je Svuda ahead of the first runner-up being Dusan Svilar with the track Spas. In the final show, there were another three entries competing, all having been brought down from the fifteen presented in the semi-final stage of the competition. As a matter of fact, in third place was Saška Janković with the song Duga u tvojim očima, in fourth place Halo performed by Marija Mihajlović and in fifth place were the group Sky's with the song Magija. We had the opportunity to speak to all five of the performers and their interviews will be aired this week.

Extensive coverage of the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest continues with yet another exclusive interview set to be aired this week. The focus this time round will be on none other than Jessika who participated within the selection with the track Ultraviolet co-written by Philip Vella, Thomas G:Son and Gerard James Borg. Jessika's profile in the past couple of months has definitely risen considerably for the simple reason that she is one of the main actresses in a local television series entitled Il-Klikka. This was the best showing for Jessika in the competition having managed to finish in eighth place at the end of the evening whilst also managing fourth place with the public just behind Kevin Borg, Gianluca, and Chris Grech. 

Radio International is always keen to present songs during the show apart from the weekly features and therefore, collaborating the two ideas together will see the emergence of Eurovision UnverCover whereas tracks performed at the Eurovision Song Contest will be covered by other singers. The actual tracks will be played first followed by the cover and this will make things interesting. Apart from this feature, there will be new material played on the show by a number of former representatives including Patricia Kaas.
