10 years ago, the Eurovision Song Contest was significantly different, having just undergone a radical change with the inclusion of the 1 semi-final system apart from the fact that it was being hosted in Turkey, a country which no longer participates in the event. The winning artist on that occasion, Ruslana and her song 'Wild Dances', which she co-wrote with Aleksandr Ksenofontov, Jamie Maher, Michael Fayne and Sherena Dugani led to the beginning of a career, which has seen Ruslana sway from music to politics in an instant.

In support of her native Ukraine, Ruslana has appealed to her fans across Europe with a special message which she has sent to the local and international media. Generally speaking, she would like to create a video message, which will be edited into the form of a flashmob, and the biggest the group of people that could take part the better. The video recording, which does not have to be professional, needs to be submitted by tomorrow, May 24th, at 12:00 (ETT) and will be coined as a Prayer for Ukraine, Peace and Tranquility! The video could be send to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or the Official Facebook Page of Ruslana. On the 30th November 2013, the European Broadcasting Union will be hosting the tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which is being staged in Kiev, Ukraine. As part of the rebranding of the event, a certain co-relation is being created between the senior and the junior events of the Eurovision Song Contest, so much so that two former winners of the senior event; Ruslana and Emmelie de Forest have both been invited to perform as special guests during the course of the evening.

It is also worth noting that the one of the hosts of the evening is Zlata Ognevich, the female artist who represented Ukraine at this years’ edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Gravity, finishing in second place. This is a similar system to the one used by NTU, the national broadcaster of Ukraine when they hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest a couple of years back by getting Ani Lorak to co-host. Malta is returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Gaia Cauchi and her entry The Start which she co-wrote with Elton Zarb, Matt Mercieca and Gillian Attard  of La Voix Academy. It is always important to denote that the Mediterranean Country had been absent from the event for the past two (2) years. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for the latest news.

Earlier this year, the Francophone broadcaster, RTBF internally selected Roberto Bellarosa who went onto perform the track Love Kills, taking Belgium straight into the final where he finished in a credible twelfth place, the second best result since the introduction of the two semi-final format. VRT, the broadcaster responsible for next years' entry last obtained a positive result in 2010 when Tom Dice and his entry Me and My Guitar finished in sixth place as their last try in 2012 ended in great disappointment with Iris and the track Would You? only managing a penultimate position in the semi-final. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

Radio International: New Music from Ruslana

It is quite intriguing to denote that this will be the third week of the brand new year and thus with another Wednesday evening looming around, the Team of Radio International would like to invite you to join the weekly Ultimate Eurovision Experience. The show is broadcast on 106.8 FM and Digital Cable 781 within The Netherlands but is also available through the official website where it will also be web-televised. Whether on television or on radio, it seems that Wednesdays have become more musical for some reason and from 20:00 till 23:00 CET, another packed episode will be aired. In recent weeks, the interviews have somewhat proven to be popular with audiences, especially those held with artists which come from a different era to what the competition has become known now and thus bring a different perspective. This week will be no different with a former representative from the seventies coming forward.

1973 is known to have been a great year for the Eurovision Song Contest in general with most of the performers garnering success all over the continent. One of the entertainers whose name has become somewhat renowned in the Benelux region is that of Ben Cramer whose entry De Oude Muzikant could only manage a lower table fourteenth place at the end of the evening. It has become public knowledge that the performer tried his luck to represent The Netherlands once more in 2012 and even submitted a track to the broadcaster responsible for the nations' participation but regrettably declined. Nevertheless, a special concert was held with the track released to the public. During the evening, there were a number of guests including Justine Pelmelay who represent her nation in 1989 as well as Marga who had done the honours in 1987 respectively. During the interview held with Ben, he speaks about his experience and the aftermath of representing The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest.

In the meantime, now that the year 2013 has come forth, and with the national finals having already started, correspondent Ross Bennett will be commenting on the tracks that are being presented by countries which will be performing at the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The focus of the week is surely on the multi-entry national selection held in Albania which has an incredibly strong tradition of being held around Christmas time and also feature a live orchestra in the vein of Sanremo as well as another selection which took place in Ukraine. Both entries selected were chosen through a majority vote and thus no issues have somewhat surfaces about the choices although the latter faced some plagiarism issues which have now been abandoned  As a matter of fact, this feature will run with the regular news brought about by both escflashmalta.com and escXtra.com as most of the countries reveal their selection process, possible representatives and also other selective issues.

Radio International is always keen to present songs during the show apart from the weekly features and therefore, collaborating the two ideas together will see the emergence of Eurovision UnverCover whereas tracks performed at the Eurovision Song Contest will be covered by other singers. The actual tracks will be played first followed by the cover and this will make things interesting. Apart from this feature which will officially commence as of tomorrow, there will be new material played on the show by a number of former representatives including; Kaliopi (FYR Macedonia 2012), Ruslana (Ukraine 2004), Compact Disco (Hungary 2012) and Mika Newton (Ukraine 2011). Follow the show through the official website and also send your requests through the contact link which is found on the aforementioned website.
