19 November 2017

Ira Losco is back and she is back to stay – she took a substantial break from releasing anything new but around a year and a half ago she returned to the scene with the hit single ‘What I’d Give’ which released tones of airplay and occupied the top spot in the Bay Charts for a very long time – the rest was history. After lots of determination and hard work, Ira Losco set her sights on rewarding the public with their support through a concert something which she had not done in a long while; the public had plenty of opportunities to catch the star at of the gigs she gave in the past months but your own concert is always special.

The concert sold out in four days, quite impressive although admittedly Ira Losco is riding a wave of success and this was undoubtedly no big surprise. The venue chosen for the concert was ‘Pjazza Teatru Rjal’ which has been hosting some of the best concert on the island – the history of the place, along with the set up give the venue an intimate feel which electrifies the positive vibe. Ira Losco along with Jagged House Management used this to their full advantage and created which was undoubtedly one of the best concerts of the year. The playlist was well thought out and the artists chosen to join our local star could not have been better.

Some might think I am patronizing but from the get go the venue was buzzing with positive energy and the audience surely felt the vibe as they were mesmerized by the whole thing. The set up was truly idyllic – with a perfect combination of lights and projections that changed according to the mood and theme of the song. This was surely something which aided and enhanced the whole spectacle. Ira’s set list was mixed with the right combination of popular songs from her repertoire, a few covers and some duets with her guest stars which included Sanremo runner-up Irene Fargo, up and coming local starlet Alex Alden, well renowned Maltese beat boxer Dana McKean and the popular Ivan Grech and Gianluca Bezzina.

It is not an easy feat to hand pick a few stand out moments from the concert as each song proved to be special on its own merits but there were some songs that they surely a bit more magical then the others. For starters, the duet Ira Losco sang with Dana McKean was breathtaking – I could only watch and listen carefully in awe at how talented Dana is. I have watched her before but I had never watch her perform live and when she hit the stage with Ira Losco it left me yearning for more but that was just the beginning as more surprises were in store for the crowd who were all listening attentively.

The crowd did get over excited when it was Gianluca’s turn to hit the stage – the guy oozes charisma and his sympathetic smile makes you fall in love with him instantly. He has reached new heights after his Eurovision success and when he duets with Ira, you can almost feel the sparks in the air. They are special and insanely talented in their own merit but when they came together to do ‘Let Her Go’ and ‘Say Something’ the venue was in complete utter silence – listening attentively to each and every word! At the end of their performances, some parts of the crowd even rewarded them with a standing ovation but the others I guess were still in awe stuck to their seats, that is the only viable explanation I can think of for not standing up to salute these two great artists.

Ivan Grech joined Ira to sing her hit song ‘Waking up to the Light’ and then she reciprocated with singing along one of Winter Moods’ hits but the special moment came when Ivan joined Ira and Gianluca on stage to perform the Maltese hit ‘Xemx’ – a song where the audience sang their heart out along with the main stars. Another highlight was when Ira sung the Italian classic ‘Almeno tu nell’universo’ with Sanremo star Irene Fargo – Ira’s and Irene’s vocals were a perfect match on this number in particular and unquestionably it went down well with those present. Italian is a language enjoyed by many locals and Ira’s raspy touch when singing in Italian works wonders.

Apart from the duets, Ira Losco’s solo performances were equally strong and entertaining and the crowd got going from the get go. The only negative thing about this amazing concert was that since everyone was seated one could not loosen up and enjoy the great vibes Ira was passing. Everyone was tapping away, yearning to stand up at the edge of their seats. Something the audience did on Ira’s last number of the night – when she sang her hit single ‘What I’d Give’. Thankfully the roof was brought down a number of years ago because with so many strong and breathtaking performances, Ira would have brought the roof down over and over again during this astounding concert.

I start finishing off by saying it was not an easy audience to please but Ira knows that whenever she performs, the expectations are high as she continues to raise the bar higher every time she performs but she did prove that she is undeniably one the very best artists ever to come out of this island.  Those who missed the concert should be on the lookout for Ira’s upcoming gigs and maybe a second run of this concert – rumour has it they might hold it again in September. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news on the local music scene and beyond. Surely this should be your one stop site to keep yourself updated with all the latest activities.

escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Jagged House has been presenting a montly blog written by Ira Losco, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. It has been almost two years, since the singer/songwriter decided to come back, and start teasing new material to fans of the competition. What I'd Give was a massive success and won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. On the other hand, nothing beats the response towards the third single; Me Luv U Long Time, not even the fourth single, The Way It's Meant to Be.

My oh my oh my. And I thought January and February were going to be my ‘quiet’ months!! Not really. While I was in Manchester filming my latest video The Way It’s Meant To Be I got the call from PBS asking if I’d be interested in presenting the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with Gianluca. That was just 3 weeks before it actually happened. I was very pleasantly surprised by how well received Gianluca and I were. I loved every second of it! Sunday was also exciting as I bagged THREE awards out of my four nominations. Best Artist, Best Video for Me Luv U Long Time directed by The Bigger Picture and my ultimate favourite award: Best Album for The Fire!!! The following weekend I was in Serbia shooting for a Brazilian brand AND this week The Way It's Meant to Be held its number #1 position. Life is very good! These are my TOP 5!!

Sam Smith - Money on My Mind (UK)

I love Sam Smith’s voice. He’s the voice behind the sexy as hell “Latch” he doesn’t sound what he looks like at all though don’t you think? Hehehehe I love this garage movement, which has really picked up again the last couple of years.  I love what he’s done with ‘Naughty Boy’ too. Can’t wait to hear more from him.

Pharrell Williams - Happy (USA)

Pharell makes me wanna smile and dance. His music is always uplifting. I’ve always thought he was cooler than cool. Everything he touches turns to gold. The single was also accompanied by a 24 hour happy video, The singer-rapper-producer dropped a video for "Happy" that runs 24 hours and features a score of cameos, celebrity and otherwise. The interface for the video, found on the website 24hoursofhappy.com, sets the clip at a time corresponding to the local time of the viewer, with the ability to fast-forward, rewind and skip around to different times of the day, fantastic idea if you ask me!!

Lorde - Team (New Zealand)

I have a penchant for electronic pop. I am a big fan of singer song-writers like Sia and Robyn, who dominated the charts back in 2011. Lorde is the new kid in town and she’s got a whole bunch of attitude. She was quoted as saying that Taylor Swift wasn’t a good role model because she was so “flawless and unattainable.” However couple of months ago she was spotted at Swift’s very own concert in her native New Zealand. The two were also spotted hanging out together, they’ve buried the hatchet it seems!

Shakira and Rihanna - Can’t Remember To Forget You

The Colombian singer/song writer and the Barbadian sultry songstress, collaborate on this up-tempo new wave and reggae rock track.  Both recording artists have had their string of number 1 hits and this track is a very catchy pop tune which has you humming along by the time the second chorus kicks in, not to mention they are a sight for sore eyes in the music video. If I were a man I don’t know who I’d pick out of the two, they are just too beautiful!!

Paloma Faith - I Can’t Rely On You

Total epic FAIL with her Italian accent in the beginning part AND another painful try at it at the end of the video heheh however she makes up for it with that totally sick voice of hers, full of that attitude reminiscent of James Brown. With a hot new album, aptly called “A Perfect Contradiction” boasting producers such as Pharell Williams, Paloma Faith is going to be the IT girl  in the soul pop circle. The fiery red-head is, slowly but surely, leaving her mark on the pop world like never before!

As always stay tuned to my Facebook Fanpage for status/picture/video/music updates and video updates. My Special Thanks this month go to Coca Cola, The fantastic Team who worked with me at The Malta Eurovision Festival: Clinton at Hair Factory, Diane Nikolic at GLOW, Drew Warhurst, Rose Calleja, Godiva Topquality Hair. To the team who worked with me on the ME LUV U LONG TIME video. The incredible Production company THE BIGGER PICTURE, ONE Studios in Marsa, The Atrium, Justin Brincat, Clinton Attard @ HairFactory, Yuva House of Beauty, Drew Warhurst, Lynne Salomonoe Reynaud @ Brigitte Gauci Borda, Matthew Pace and Andrea Gauci. Stay tuned for another write-up on escflashmalta.com in a months' time as I announce my top five tunes for March, the third month of 2014!!!

Malta: Ira Losco Releases New Music Video

At the Bay Music Awards, Malta’s most successful female singer/songwriter, Ira Losco revealed the name of the song which she has decided to release as the fourth single, that being none other than The Way It’s Meant To Be. This comes following the incredible success of her latest studio album, The Fire, with the first three (3) singles hitting the top spot at number #1. Hence, there is a lot of pressure on this single to succeed, in order to follow up the success of previous releases What I’d Give, The Person I Am and Me Luv U Long Time.

The Way It’s Meant To Be, produced by Howard Keith at Jagged House Studios and written by Ira Losco is being supported by a music video release, produced in the United Kingdom by video ink. Wearing dark red lips, Ira Losco is seen playing the piano throughout parts of the song whilst always wearing different coats, somewhat representing that she would like to feel loved. The additional choreography in the video and the ambient used is very much similar to that seen in the Oscar Nominated Movie, The Black Swan. Overall, another fine effort from the local singer/songwriter and escflashmalta.com guest writer, Ira Losco. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all the latest news.

Malta: December's Favourite Tunes by Ira Losco

escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Jagged House has been presenting a montly blog written by Ira Losco, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Around a year ago, following an extended period of time off, Ira Losco returned to the local music scene with the track What I'd Give which won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. On the other hand, nothing beats the response towards the third single; Me Luv U Long Time.

This is my very last blog before the year 2013 leaves us and 2014 unravels before us…hopefully giving us some great times just like the previous year has. I would love to thank all of you for voting for The Person I Am and crowning it as Best Song in 2013 at the BMAs. I was over the moon, albeit being so terribly ill. You wouldn’t have believed I was able to get on that stage, had you seen the state of me in the morning!!! The Fire continues to do extremely well and as you all know, the  4th single you were asked to vote for has been chosen and is the mo-town influences ballad The Way It’s Meant to Be. It has already hit the airwaves and will be accompanied by a video VERY soon!! Watch this space for more info!! For my TOP 5 this month, I decided to choose my favourite TOP 5 seasonal tracks of all time. Here it goes..

Wham!- Last Christmas (UK)

When I was 3 years old my mother took my sister and I to Australia to visit family. We spent Christmas there and it was the first and only Christmas I remember in Summer. At the time Wham! were at their peak, and this song was blaring out of every mall, beach club, radio. You may think I was too young to remember all of that, but where music was concerned I was always very very aware of what was going on around me. This song will always remind me of Christmas time in Australia.

Carol of the Bells - Mykola Leontovych with lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky (Ukranian)

This just has to be one of my favourites. I know many people have selected  movies that they watch during Christmas time, mine, like many, happens to be “Home Alone” and I just adore the track on the OST sung by a children’s choir. I love the eerie, magical quality of the track. The chimes also play a huge part in making it sound so Christmassy, I just love this.

Do they Know it’s Christmas/Feed The World - Band Aid (UK/USA/AUS)

Recently I watched a docudrama about Bob Geldof and how he went about organizing one of the most memorable concerts ever. I clearly remember watching Live Aid back in 1985, being mesmerized by the artists involved while they absolutely killed it on stage.  But before that I’d already gotten a taste of this incredible energy when Bob Geldof and Midge Ure set up Band Aid and got them to record ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas Time.’ The video accompanying the single featured all the artists who were prominent in the charts at the time, Sting, Phill Collins, Wham!,  George Michael, Bananarama, Boy George, U2 and many more. I’m so honoured to have met Bob Geldof a number of times in 2007/8. He is a fantastic man and I treasure his friendship and his wise words.

Paul Mc Cartney - Wonderful Christmas Time (UK)

McCartney recorded the song entirely on his own during the sessions for his solo project Mc Cartney Project II.. Including royalties from cover versions, it is estimated that McCartney makes $400,000 a year from this song, which puts its cumulative earnings at near $15 million, not bad is it for a song which many claim to be one of his poorest compositions?….oh well…everyone’s got different tastes innit?

John Lennon - Happy Xmas War is Over (UK)

I simply HATE placing one of the Beatles second and the other first, however truth be told, I was always more of a John Lennon fan. I love both John and Paul, but John, will always make me go a bit weaker at the knees. John Lennon had this simple way of writing a song, which said it all so cleverly.   There was no beating around the bush. Just a very strong melody and words, which hit home. This track written in 1971, during the final years of the Vietnam War, remains one of the most poignant Christmas songs ever written.

I would like to thank you ALL for lending your support to me in 2013 and I look forward to performing and releasing music in 2014. My Special thanks go to: Diane Nikolic at GLOW, Drew Warhurst my stylist, Clinton Attard at HairFactory, Hebe at Classic Group, GUESS Jeans Malta, FCM Bank, Coca Cola and last but not least Jagged House Management. Thank you to escflashmalta.com  for giving me the opportunity to share my views with your readers!!! I will be playing LIVE at La Soiree’ Chic THIS NYE. The event has COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!!!! So I’ll see all of you coming there tomorrow!!!

In summer, Ira Losco launched her sixth studio album The Fire which spent well over two months in the top ten of the iTunes digital store and successfully spawned three singles; What I’d Give, The Person I Am (ft. David Leguesse) and Me Luv u Long Time. Nevertheless, she wanted a true connection with her fans as she commenced the search for a fourth single and therefore lined-up three songs, all of which bore a resemblance, despite being varied at the very same time. In a major collaboration with Coca-Cola and 89.7 Bay, she asked the general public, her fans to select her fourth single, and the choice was categorical, The Way It’s Meant to Be.

Ira Losco was clearly the star of this years' edition of the Bay Music Awards which took place last night at the Bay Arena in St Julians. She was awarded three prestigious awards by the end of the evening, including; the Presenters' Choice as voted by all the DJs at 89.7 Bay, the Best Song for her second single The Person I Am (ft David Leguesse) and a Recognition Award for always being there with current music for the past ten years, since the Bay Music Awards kicked-off in sterling fashion back in 2003. Remember that Ira Losco is a regular contributor at escflashmalta.com with a monthly blog in which she states her top five tracks. Malta: Video for 'Me Luv u Long Time' Released

Ira Losco, considered by many as the leading lady within the local music scene has just released the music video, accompanying the third single Me Luv u Long Time from the album The Fire. A favourite amongst her fans, the song has already managed to peak at the top position on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay and the PRS Chart which ranks the most airplay on all music stations.

The music video, directed by Francis Ghersci with production by The Bigger Picture is yet another impressive visual for Losco. All in all, there were around twenty-five people who were involved in the shoot, which took place at ONE Studios in Marsa. The Bigger Picture, Nexos Lighting, The Atrium, Portomaso Casino, GUESS and FCM Bank were vital in the realization of this video. Make up and hair was left in the expert hands of award-winning Justin Brincat and Clinton Attard. Drew Warhurst, Matthew Pace and Andrea Gauci provided wardrobe and props.

This is the third music video for Ira Losco from her latest album and with such a background, it comes to show that she has become one of the most active local artists. With two previous hits; What I'd Give and The Person I Am which also successfully topped the charts and a studio album which managed to stay at the number #1 for eleven (11) consecutive weeks, it seems that Ira is truly reaching her peak as an artist, combining her songwriting and performing skills together.

Fans are asked to visit the page to be informed about a competition regarding this video release with many prizes to be won. Besides the funny bloopers during the end credits there is also a link to be found for the making of video teaser. 2 making of videos will be released shortly. "I find it is of utmost importance to add a strong visual to music especially in today’s age. Releasing a music video with every single is a challenging task for obvious reasons but, I’m a firm believer that the audio and visual creative sectors compliment each other perfectly” concluded Ira Losco. Me Luv You Long Time, the third single off Ira Losco's sixth studio album entitled The Fire is clearly causing a storm considering that it is scaling up the charts at a relatively fast pace. As a matter of fact, this week, on Malta's Top Ten With Nathan D, the track has managed to peak at number #2, with the only song to achieve more airplay during the past week being Endless Flame by Joseph Armani and featuring Cazi Opea. Last night, Ira Losco was headlining at the Għaxaq Music Festival and performed a string of hits including Waking Up to the LightDriving One of Your Cars and L-Aħħar Bidwi F'Wied il-Għasel which has also been covered by Italian sensation, Claudio Baglioni.

Ira Losco, a regular contributor at escflashmalta.com has managed to rekindle the support that spurred her onto becoming the leading female vocalist in the country with The Fire achieving several statistical successes. The first two singles; What I'd Give and The Person I Am, the latter of which featured guest vocals of David Leguesse did well both on the radio and on iTunes. A music video to support her latest single has also been recorded and in her own words, is said to be released within the next couple of weeks. Following an astonishing performance with her band, Ira Losco was joined on stage by Errol Sammut and the rest of Airport Impressions for two cover versions which sent the crowd into a complete frenzy as they witnessed great chemistry between the two leading vocalists. Preceding the release of the collection, there were two singles, one entitled What I'd Give and the other being The Person I Am featuring the vocals of David Leguess. Between Ira's fifth and sixth studio albums, there was a three year gap, something which she described as a period where she rediscovered her love towards music. All releases by the singer/songwriter are under the Jagged House imprint and therefore, it comes as no surprise that joining her in Għaxaq on Tuesday, 6th August 2013 will be none other than Airport Impressions, also on the labels' roster.

At the Farsons Beer Festival, Ira Losco performed a string of her own personal hits including a number of well known songs in Maltese such as L-Aħħar Bidwi F'Wied il-Għasel. In the meantime, Airport Impressions will be taking to the stage tomorrow evening with Lauren Aquilina also in tow for a series of performances. Both Ira and Airport Impressions will be singing songs from their personal discography but organisers of the Għaxaq Music Festival have also confirmed that the two will be coming together for a couple of tracks as well. This is something that is happening for the very first time and the public will surely enjoy the outcome considering the strong vocals on both sides.
