"Heartbeat" co-written by Hazel Kaneswaran, Jonas Gladnikoff, Rasmus Palmgren, Patrizia Helander, with vocals provided by Kasey Smith and featuring Canlinn, led to a disappointing result for Ireland, failing to qualify to the grand final, finishing in 13th place, much to the dismay of the national broadcaster and an extremely large fanbase from the seven-time winning country. The mentor-led system which Ireland has used in the past four years, has led to a mixed series of results, even though qualification was acquired between 2011 and 2013, twice with X Factor twins, Jedward. In 2015, Ireland is adopting a different approach, and is thus organising an open national selection, as had been previously stated by the Irish Independent. Amongst the artists who will be putting their name forward are none other than former UK X Factor finalists; Jedward, who as mentioned above, have already represented the Emerald Isle on two previous occasions,…

Italy: An In-Depth Introduction to Sanremo 2015

The prestigious Italian Festival will next year take place between the 10th and the 14th February, hosted by none other than Carlo Conti, who is one of the most popular TV presenters on RAI 1, mainly known for the quiz show “L’Eredita”. Infact, Conti himself has just recently published a sort of handbook for the festival, which will also include some new concepts. The festival will yet again be divided into two categories, mainly the “Giovani” (Italy’s upcoming talent) and the “Campioni” (Famous Italian singers). Unlike the previous years, the “Campioni” will be competing with one song and not two. The shows will be divided as follows: 10th February 2015: 8 “Campioni” will premiere their songs and 4 “Giovani” will do the same (2 will proceed to the semifinal round held on 12/02) 11th February 2015: 8 remaining “Campioni” will premiere theirs songs and the next 4 “Giovani” will do…

Sweden: Another Melodifestivalen Quest Kicks Off

Written by
As rumours start to circulate as to who will or who won’t be participating in Melodifestivalen 2015. We can have a look at some of the items that have been confirmed. Firstly, Sanna Nielsen solidifies herself as a MF veteran after being confirmed as co-host with Robin Paulsson. After winning the competition on her seventh attempt by only two points last year with her song “Undo”. She secured third place in Copenhagen in May after becoming one if the early favourites. The natural progression would be for her to become host. I am pretty sure she will do a great job and I like how SVT keep refreshing the presenters. Chris Björkman has also confirmed that there will be a format change for the 2015 competition. This year there will be 12 songs in the final rather than the usual 10 and four songs will progress from the second chance…
It’s hard to believe that the Public Broadcasting Services already has a line-up for the next edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with twenty entries set to compete for the ticket to represent Malta in Vienna, Austria. The national final, set to take place at the Marsa Shipbuilding on the 21st and 22nd November will be featuring a host of well known and upcoming stars, all vying to present their work, and garner the respect of the general public and the professional panel of judges. During the course of the weekend, the Public Broadcasting Services will be recording the Official Music Videos which will accompany the entries over the next couple of weeks. According to the rules and regulations, all the qualified entries could have been re-mastered, without the additional change in melodic structure, as has been the case in recent years. This will ensure that the competition is…
“In and Out of Love” written by Gorgi and Erik Rydmark, with vocals provided by Kaya, is currently competing for the right to represent Switzerland in the 2015 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The local singer/songwriter, a three time qualifier to the selection process in Malta, where she found success 14 years ago, finishing in 3rd place with the song “Our Love” composed by Alfred Zammit to the lyrics of Cynthia Sammut, did submit entries for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014-2015, failing to pass the first hurdle. In recent weeks, Kaya was competing in this year’s edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza in a duet with one of her students, Nicole Brincat. Their entry “Ħamsin Sena Nazzjon” composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas to the lyrics of Paul Ellul, mustered enough points to finish in a respectable 4th place. This was one of the most disappointing results for the…

United Kingdom: BBC Launches Open Selection

Written by
In 2014, Molly represented the United Kingdom with 'Children of the Universe', a mid-tempo ballad with a rousing chorus which got everyone going. Nevertheless, the result was quite disappointing as the singer/songwriter slumped to yet another mid-table result, slightly better than the ones achieved by Bonnie Tyler in 2013, and Engelbert Humperdinck in 2012. In a surprise twist, the British Broadcasting Corporation issued a call for songs, hoping that upcoming singers and songwriters come up with a inspirational package, which will pick up votes from all the four corners of Europe. Despite all of this, the national broadcaster is also talking to a number of record labels, and platforms such as the BBC Introducing in order to come up with a strong shortlist. Following the establishment of the shortlist, the British Broadcasting Corporation will appoint a professional panel of experts to select the next entry to represent the United Kingdom…

On the 15th November, Malta will be hosting this year’s edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and all the information making up the spectacle is being presented during the course of the day at the Heads of Delegation Meeting organised by the European Broadcasting Union and the Public Broadcasting Services. After confirming earlier reports of the 16 participating countries, a spectacular stage has now been presenting, noting that this will not only be used for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014, but also for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015, which is being held on the 22nd November. Designed by Claudio Santucci, of the Milan-based company Gio’Forma, the concept is that of origami, inspired by the triangle found in the logo of this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest logo. John McCullagh, the Creative Director states “It’s a very flexible and easy to use shape” adding that “the ancient art…
