One of the most respected music competitions in Malta in the past was none other than the 'Għanja tal-Poplu' noting that it featured entries in the national language of the country, something that keeps getting pushed away when it comes to the art of song but a renowned vigour in the notable event might be assessed through the quality of music unveiled in the months to come. The campaign to attract more popular names might be working because according to very credible and close sources, the interest amongst the most credible songwriters in Malta has increased.

The music competition in the past had been quite popular with winners including none other than Kaya, Philip Vella, Glen Vella, Eleanor Cassar, Corazon, Julie Pomorski, Enzo Gusman and Walter Micallef amongst others with non-winners including none other than Isabelle Zammit, Chiara, Debbie Scerri, Claudette Pace, Olivia Lewis and Renato. We are in position to exclusively reveal that some of the songwriters who sent in tracks include Heathcliffe Balzan, Rita Pace and Teddie Zammit. It is expected that the number of submissions has increased with the best quality output being promised. Other names have been mentioned which we cannot confirm at this stage.

The three have astonishing writing credits behind their names with Heathcliffe being behind the runner-up during the last edition of the competition with the song 'Rakkont ta' Omm' performed by Petra and Rita Pace penning tracks for major competitions both in Malta and abroad noting her song in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year entitled 'While Her Eyes Still Glow' and also her song competing in the Bulgarian national selection entitled 'Eternal'. It is expected that the group 'Brikkuni' will guest star during the final evening alongside British artist, Sarah Class who has worked with some of most incredible vocal artists in the world including Hayley Westerna and Eurovision Song Contest winner, Eimear Quinn. We will be posting more news about the 'Għanja tal-Poplu' competition as we manage to learn more therefore stay tuned to ESCflashmalta for all of the latest from the local music scene.

We have just been in touch with the Committee for the 'Għanja tal-Poplu' competition and can exclusively reveal that the total amount of submissions reached 42 for this years' edition of the music competition. The first phase will be taking place this weekend where a panel of judges will be present to listen to the songs submitted and bring them down.
