'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Glen Vella, a male singer/songwriter who requires no lengthy introduction, having amassed considerable a positive reputation over the years, and as a result, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the local music industry, was Malta’s representative in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “One Life”. He tried his luck once more, in two different scenarios, the first being in 2014 as a songwriter for the song “Love Will Take You Home” sung by Franklin Calleja, which managed a respectable 7th place, and the second as a lead vocalist with the song “Breakaway” co-written by Simon Gribbe and Kevin Borg. The male vocalist also plays an instrumental part in the Gospel Choir, Animae and has recently taken on the position as Director and Tutor at Vocal Troupes.

Nadine Axisa, a veteran female vocalist, who has taken part in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with a total of nine (9) entries, the most recent being Once In a Lifetime composed by Jason Paul Cassar to the lyrics of Mario Farrugia and performed in a duet with Clifford Galea. She has recently made a much anticipated return to the local music scene, albeit within a new genre, Jazz. Looking back to 2006, Nadine had already experimented with this style but nevertheless, compiling an album of original material is another story. “Velvet” which is available for purchase in local record shops as well as iTunes has been well received by the industry.

In 2013, male singer/songwriter Kevin Borg, made a much anticipated return to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with "Needing You" co-written with Danne Attlerud, Thomas Thornholm, Michael Clauss and Simon Gribbe. In a surprise first runner-up finish, the singer/songwriter stated that while he will not be making a return as a singer, he would dabble into songwriting. He kept to that promise, and submit "Breakaway", a track co-written with Simon Gribbe, for former Eurovision Song Contest representative, Glen Vella.

The result was extremely respectable, finishing in third place, behind "Warrior" sung by Amber and "Rush" performed by Christabelle. Spending Christmas in Sweden, Kevin is busy working on new songs with Starlab Publishing, and reaping the rewards of earlier work in the year. You might remember that "Sweat" by Japanese sensations TVXQ/Tohoshinki peaked at number #1, but now their latest studio album has become the best selling studio effort of 2014. After an amazing show, we got to know who will be the 14 (fourteen) competing in the Maltese National Final tomorrow evening. At the end of the evening, there were 6 eliminated acts; Lyndsay, Iona Dalli, Raquel, Domenique, Danica and Corazon. People in the venue were surprised at the outcome, noting that there were seriously surprised to see Danica and Raquel miss out on a place in the final. The only explaination for this, is to ensure that there is diversity in terms of genres.

At the post-showcase press conference, Head of Delegation and Public Broadcasting Services Chief Executive Officer, Anton Attard congratulated the qualifiers, whilst thanking the other 6 acts for their contribution to an extremely high standard.Following the draw of the first and last slots in the running order, the producer came up with a finalised version of the draw, one which you may denote below.

MESC 2015: In-Depth Interview with Glen Vella

On the 21st and 22nd November, the Public Broadcasting Services will be hosting the 2014-2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest at the Marsa Shipbuilding. 20 acts will be taking centre stage, in hope of representing the country at next year's edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, being held in Vienna, Austria. Over the next couple of weeks, escflashmalta.com will be publishing a series of interviews with all the participants. Whilst thanking the Public Broadcasting Services for this opportunity, Let's continue and follow things up with Glen Vella.

Would you kindly introduce your entry to our readers and also identify the meaning behind the lyrics?

It’s a very catchy tune. The style is upbeat and makes you feel good. Certainly you can dance along to it.

In Malta, the Eurovision Song Contest is considered to be a major outlet for the music industry, and you stand here as one of the semi-finalists. What does the whole experience mean to you?

I am a huge fan of the Eurovision Song Contest and after the experience of 2011 it was my dream to one day take part in this great spectacle again. I hope that my dream will become a reality with this song!

Recently, Malta has been rather successful at the Eurovision Song Contest, making the final on four of the last five participation attempts. What do you think is the reason for this success, and do you believe that your entry has what it takes to continue this positive trend?

I believe that many talented singers have been sent to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest over the years. They have enjoyed their chance to represent the country and always to the best of their abilities and the audience has always appreciated their efforts. I really hope so!

If you were given the opportunity to sing another one of the competing entries in the 2014-2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, which one would it be and why?

There are so many other good songs in this year’s competition that it would be unfair to choose one!!

Do you have any plans to release more music in the future, and do you have any particular projects in the pipeline?

I have recently embarked on an exciting new project at Vocal Booth Studios. I am director and tutor of Vocal Troupes. The aim behind Vocal Troupes is to teach different techniques that are necessary for singing in a group which are different to individual singing.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

Your support and love means a lot to me! I hope you like my song and that I am able to repay your loyal support with a great performance. Wish me luck!
