Janice Mangion, one of Malta’s leading vocalists, a solo singer in her own right, and also a member of the Animae Gospel Choir has recently launched her debut single, an r’n’b soul ballad with a pulsing beat entitled “Burnin”, composed by Elton Zarb and penned by Emil Calleja Bayliss.

In the initial stages of the creative process, Janice sought a meaningful message, one which helps those who find themselves in moments of despair, thinking that their faith has abandoned them completely. This, accompanied by her soulful voice creates an exceptionally beautiful song. Aiding in the recorded was the talented Angela Spiteri who provided a strong backing vocal.

“Burnin”, which is available from streaming and purchase on all major digital platforms has been released through CAP Sounds, a record label based in Germany with full distribution handled by Universal Music Germany. Manfred Holz of the aforementioned company stated ‘Janice has an incredible vocal range which we are proud to represent, and we believe that “Burnin” showcases her talent in the best possible way’.

In support of the single, which was officially released on Friday 23rd September, Janice Mangion and her team, led by Marc Calleja Bayliss of Ironic PR & Artist Management thought it best to work on a lyric video, commissioning visionaries Angie and Duane Laus, with the result officially made public on Thursday 29th September.

You can steam or purchase the song, or else view the lyric video through either Janice Mangion’s Official Facebook or Twitter pages or else on: http://janicemangion.believeband.com.

Janice Mangion would like to thank everyone who has supported the release of this song from day one, and would like to thank her team of sponsors, and also the media outlets who have been in touch to help in any way. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Janice Mangion, an exceptional female vocalist, whose emergence onto the local music circuit was established through "L-Isfida", a talent show which brought together the three artistic disciplines; singing, dancing, and acting, in hope of finding a true all-rounder. Since then, she has never looked back and has gone onto reach the latter stages of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, apart from making the finals of the Summer Hit Song Contest, Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, and L-Għanja tal-Poplu.

The second guest of the evening is, Julie Pomorski, also a female singer, whose ascent to notoreity was during the 2004 L-Għanja tal-Poplu, emerging victorious with the song "Żewġ Qagħqiet" written by Augusto Cardinali and Giovann Attard. Since then, she has put her name forward to compete in a number of local music competitions including the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Summer Hit Song Contest and Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. It is fair to say that she has a contemporary look and sound, making her a truly all-rounder from an artistic point of view.

The third and final guest who will be accompanying Deo Grech this evening is Lara Dimech, recently part of the annual charity event Rockestra, having had the opportunity to perform "I Love Rock and Roll". This and much more during this week's episode of 'The Celebrity Night' which airs on Saturday night at 20:30 on F Living Channel. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

In recent years, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has been the only local platform for songwriters and vocalists to produce original songs in English, but that has officially changed with the re-introduction of the Summer Hit Song Contest which returns to F Living as from the 14th July 2014. A total of 18 entries got through to the final stage of the competition with no less than 8 of them having already made it to the top of the music scene by virtue of reaching the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on at least one previous occasion.

We're going to chat to ALL the artists in contention so that you, our readers will have the opportunity to get to know them better. The fifth artist in our series of interviews is Janice Mangion, and the song which she is presenting bears the name "The One" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Keith Zammit.

In Malta, the Eurovision Song Contest is a major outlet for the music industry, but then again, with such a mindset, what role does the return of the Summer Hit Song Contest have in your opinion and would you like it to be part of the music calendar?

Every music festival is an opportunity for us singers ,in which we learn from and meet people. The summer hit song contest is a festival in which composers ,authors and singers express themselves, in fact the style of songs differ from one to another. In this festival singers enjoy the whole journey .Its the fourth time im participating ,taking you back to my first appearance in 2008 with the song "Turn Back Time", in 2010 with the song "Before You Leave" and in 2011 with the song "Ain't My Kind of Love".

Janice, you have been somewhat absent from the music industry in the past year, yet making a comeback with a song which was originally submit by Anna Azzopardi. How difficult is to make another individuals song your own and do you plan to record any new original material?

Music gives me life ,people haven't always been there for me, but music always has . Unfortunately here in Malta, if one does not appear in local festivals it means that he /she has stopped from music .This past year i ve been so busy with music ,that i had to give up festivals. It was Renato Briffa that contacted me to sing this beautiful song ,and made me change my mind, its a challenge for me since i never competed with a gospel song in a festival.

Its not the first time that composers/authors contact me to sing a song they have written, as long as I like it and its suitable for my voice i have no problem in accepting .These past 7 months i joined the new comer band Within Us All as the lead singer, in which I've been working on new songs to which im writing lyrics ,preparing for gigs and for beginning of next year you ll surely be hearing some new original material. I am also currently experimenting in song compositions –something I've been wanting to do since i was very young.

Would you kindly introduce your entry to our readers and also identify the meaning behind the lyrics?

The One is a pop/gospel song written by :composer- Renato Briffa author –Keith Zammit .The lyrics of the song says it all “Always in my heart I treasure you ,you are my inspiration “ – Describing that feeling when you let the creator –god itself to lead you through your life, by keeping him in your heart with great serenity .

One of the key elements which have transpired upon the return of the Summer Hit Song Contest is the promotion of each artist and entry. How has f living re-defined the competition and what has been the general public reaction?

Things have been running so smoothly ,with great preparation and co–ordination that  I can only thank f living and all involved to make this festival possible.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

Thank you for your great support and continue to support local talent :)

Fabrizio Faniello, a two time representative on behalf of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest finally managed to triumph in the only song competition which had eluded him, that being the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. His entry entitled Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace had been seen as a front runner-up in the weeks leading up to the competition and had also finished in first place on the escflashmalta.com poll which in turn garnered votes from more than 600 individuals. Media.Link Communications in accordance with the Organising Committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza published the full results of both the Established and Teenage Categories.

Deborah C, Alison Ellul, Ronald Briffa and Clint Spiteri who were judging last nights' competition seemingly disagreed with the result in general noting that the votes were extremely close. Prior to this year, the system of giving out points was set on forty (40) points for the live performance, thirty (30) points for the music and another thirty (30) points for the lyrics but nevertheless, this system has seemingly been abolished as the points are out of one hundred (100). In the meantime, with an even number of judges, it is highly predictable that you would get a series of ties or close results as seen in the final list published earlier this morning. Fabrizio Faniello had participated in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza on another three occasions, always managing to finish in the top three without achieving the top spot.

  1. Aħfirli Jekk Trid - Fabrizio Faniello (Rita Pace / Minik): 89 points
  2. Hemm Miegħek Jien - Neville (Rita Pace / Minik): 85 points
  3. Ħallini Ngħidlek - Nicole Brincat (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 84 points
  4. Perper Rebbieħa - Marie Claire Attard Bason (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 75 points
  5. Gloria - Mauro u Kim (Rita Pace): 74 points
  6. Ejjew Lkoll - Roseann Cordina (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Paul Ellul): 73 points
  7. Armonija - Minik (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 72 points
  8. L-Ewlieni - Danica Muscat (Philip Vella / Emil Calleja Bayliss): 71 points
  9. Mhux Pupa Biss - Raquel Galdes (Minik / Rita Pace): 70 points
  10. Magħqudin - Francesco Catania (Ludwig Galea / Augusto Cardinali): 69 points
  11. Inwiegħdek - Josef u Johanna (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 68 points
  12. Fejn Hemm L-Għaqda, Hemm Is-Saħħa - Christian Arding (Chan Vella / Alexia Schembri): 67 points
  13. Nibqa' - Janice Mangion (Chan Vella / Alexia Schembri): 67 points
  14. B'Ħarsitna 'l Fuq - Domenique (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Paul Ellul): 67 points
  15. Int Kont Hemm - Daniel Muscat (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Stephen Baldacchino / Marlon Polidano): 67 points
  16. Fraħt Għax Sibtek - Laura Sammut Bruno (Frederick Camilleri): 65 points
  17. M'Intix Waħdek - Kylie Coleiro (Philip Vella / Manila Bottone): 63 points
  18. Riflessi - Karen DeBattista (Mark Scicluna / Emil Calleja Bayliss): 62 points
  19. Rebbiegħa - Kristen Camilleri (Philip Vella / Cher Vella): 61 points
  20. Li Jien Illum - Simarija u Mikhail (Elton Zarb / Natasha Turner): 56 points

The evening was hosted by Christine Haber, a veteran of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza at just twenty-two years of age and Mark Azzopardi, Chairman of the Organising Committee. Despite apparently overseeing proceedings with regards to the competition, the male counter-part was constantly on stage every five (5) entries leaving backstage, jury members and the sound personnel unattended to. This is something that Media.Link Communications and NET Television should address for the following year. As a matter of fact, this point was brought up by Frederick Zammit, former Chairman of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza whose tenure came to an end in 2010, with Amber and her entry Trid Tapprezza, funnily enough, the last contest which critics denote as not bringing up any controversy what so ever. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.
