Malta: Muxu is Back with a Brand New Single
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Life is quite stressful yet intriguing at the same time and therefore, music is one of the many elements that helps bring one to a point of relaxation especially in summer when the releases from local artists hit the top gear. It is quite early into the season having just begun but our colleagues at 89.7 Bay are currently accepting a number of tracks from local artists into their playlist such as those of Brooke and Christabelle who have been featured on escflashmalta.com earlier this week. One of the tracks which caught my ear instantly was So Good sung by Muxu with backing vocals by Amber. The song in itself is quite enjoyable because it gives one a very good feeling whilst keeping things mellow somewhat easing into the periods of time spent by the sea. Muxu does not need a lot of introduction nowadays having amassed a number of…

Malta: Ira Losco Might Return to the Eurovision
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Twelve years ago, one young artist by the name of Ira Losco graced the stage of the Malta Song for Europe competition with two tracks, a huge achievement for an upcoming performer. The tracks entitled Shine and Falling In Love did quite well by finishing in sixth and seventh positions but then she decided to take it up a notch and submitted more material the following year going onto qualify with four entries, these being We'll Ride the Wind, Spellbound, Deep Inside My Heart and Don't Give Up which finished in eleventh, second, ninth and fourth place respectively. This was just the beginning as later on that year, she would go onto win the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the track Fejn Staħbejtli as well as being the first runner-up with Hawn Jien Jekk Tridni. She would get the opportunity to go to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2002 with the…

Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
It has been noted how many young artists have grown to become well known in Malta with contacts being made with foreign songwriters and producers who ultimately help in creating or rather shaping up a career. Two of the most notable names are surely those of Brooke and Christabelle, both of whom have a number of followers due to the fact that their genres are very different from each other and have succeeded in racking up awards for each of their specialities respectively. They are currently working on promoting their most recent singles Fairytale and Say which are being played on local airwaves. Looking back through the confines of time, one would remember a young, beautiful and talented Brooke taking part in the Junior Song for Europe remembering that she was robbed of the top position when she performed the heart out of the song Forever Love only finishing in…

KKI 2012: The Running Order of the Final Revealed
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
The amount of competitions that take place during the year in Malta is surprisingly high but then again, there are a number of showcases which attract the biggest stars in the music industry and these are of course; the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest, the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and the Għanja tal-Poplu. Two of the mentioned ones are held in the national language of the country being Maltese and therefore even more special so to speak noting that it is a rare occasion for original tracks in Maltese to be released onto the music market which has been predominantly been based in English due to the possibility of exporting the material. We are prime supporters of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with two editorial board members being part of the Committee as well. The preparations for this years' competition have long in commenced actually noting that…

Malta: Richard Edwards Ready for a Change
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Richard Edwards has become one of the most prominent male artists in Malta by virtue of his classic runner-up finish at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest back in 2011 with the song Finally which even managed to rank first with the jury and third with the tele-voters which means quite a lot for someone who had previously appeared only once as a soloist and twice as part of his family group known as The Mics. He is quickly garnering a reputation for having a stunning vocal range which was even heard during this years' edition of the same competition as he competed with the track Look At Me Now. He is known for writing the lyrics to his tracks whilst Jan Van Dijck is the man behind the music. Nevertheless, Richard has shown that he has a career outside of the world of the Eurovision Song Contest. He has released…

Malta: Brooke to Launch Fairytale Video Soon
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
During the past four to five years, there has been a catapulting music industry, reaching a new level of success noting that the production of tracks has become much more professional with the songwriting being even somewhat more original. Our country is known for producing some of the most talented performers yet the resources are somewhat still lacking. One of the individuals who has moved house and is definitely succeeding in the game is none other than the beautiful Brooke who most recently released the track Fairytale which also made it into the local iTunes charts. There is a lot of hype surrounding the track. The video is currently being put together but filming took place way out in Los Angeles, within a castle that has already received an overwhelming amount of views through the video of Paparazzi the track performed by Lady Gaga. There are a number of surprises…

Malta: New Project Born - Harriet Cohen's 'India'
Written by Emil Calleja Bayliss
It is not something unheard of but surely unusual to hear a piece of music that simply stops us from what we are doing so we can actually listen and appreciate the richness of what we are hearing. Noting that most of the time, we do this for foreign artists, either because we are familiar with the voice or else because the song simply haunts us – it may actually be a combination of both. One thing is for sure, nowadays the general public has the ability to understand what good music is even though the genre might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Harriet Cohen is a new solo project by Deborah Borg Brincat the lead singer of local band Bletchley Park. Deborah has been experimenting with music from a young age and also tried to be unique in establishing herself as an individual and not follow the norm.…

Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Spring has clearly come to an end in the Maltese Islands with temperatures already going up meaning that summer is not too far behind and that could mean quite a number of interesting perspectives from the music industry with a number of artists prepping their releases. One of the individuals who will be launching a brand new single just this evening is none other than Malcolm Pisani who has been in hiatus over the past year but is returning with his seventh release entitled Danger (Ring The Alarm). This brand new track is quite different to what he has released thus far noting that he has worked with a brand new team of songwriters featuring composer Siconix, one half of last years' winning team of the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest and lyricist Billy J who is quickly making a name for himself in the scene. The track will…

Malta: This Is The Night Charts Digitally on iTunes Across Europe
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
It has been reported in the local media that being in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in three years was a huge success and everyone seems to be in full agreement that Kurt Calleja along with the rest of his team did their best to impress the voters all across the continent with their rendition of the track This Is The Night despite this somewhat not materialising in the amount of points which were predicted in the lead up to the final competition held on Saturday evening which was won by Loreen and her entry Euphoria for Sweden but nevertheless, there have been a lot of positive and important factors which make this years' edition of the esteemed event, one of the most successful for the Maltese entry especially considering the amount of digital sales. In the past couple of years, there has been…
