Exclusive: 38 Submissions for Għanja tal-Poplu 2013
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Local society has somewhat become infatuated with using the English language as a main source of dialogue which is definitely a positive for the upcoming generation as they head into a world which mainly uses the language. Nevertheless, Maltese is a national form of speech and writing and it is stunning that competitions like the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and L-Għanja tal-Poplu still support music written in Maltese because original tracks are already hard to come by and this is the manner which could still support one of the core elements of a national identity. This years' edition of the Għanja tal-Poplu officially commenced yesterday and escflashmalta.com is in a position to exclusively reveal that 38 entries have been submitted. Philip Vella, Janvil, Corazon, Walter Micallef, Ina Robinich, Kaya, Eleanor Cassar and Glen Vella could all list themselves as winners of the renowned competition throughout the years with more recent participants…

Malta: 'The Person I Am' Hits the Charts
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
The Fire is set to be the fifth studio album released by Ira Losco, one of the most high profile artists to grace the local music scene. The female singer is teasing her fans with material off the record by releasing debut single What I'd Give featuring a mixture of funk and reggae, and more recently The Person I Am, a pop/rock track which is aided by David Leguess as a rapper. Many have thought that maybe variety will not be the key to this comeback noting that Ira might have decided to play it safe but this is certainly not the case when one considers how different the two tracks are in terms of genre. Since returning to the scene during this past summer, Ira Losco has been giving out a lot of interviews and making a number of headlining performances, all of which have been live including at…

Brooke, one of the female artists who ranks highly above many others in the local music scene has somewhat surprised her fans with her latest release and this because, she has gone for an acoustic setting in the track Something That I Said. In recent weeks, the renowned local star managed to beat another three nominees for the Best Solo Artist accolade at the Malta Music Awards and this seems to have given her the courage to continue releasing professional music whilst studying vocal technique in the United Kingdom. Emerging as a prime artist throughout the years, it has to be noted that the vocal acrobatics have become very popular in music and thus, this element is very much prevalent in this track. Brooke has had an extremely hectic past couple of months with the release of her comeback single Fairytale which was also supported by a music video exclusively…

Malta: Sensitive Skin Release Debut Single
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Individuals have somewhat become skeptic of the material that local artists can offer within the world of music but nevertheless, it seems that behind the scenes, Peter Borg of Red Electrick fame is working with some of the nations' leading forces especially after listening to Sweet Sister, the debut single of a brand new duo known as Sensitive Skin. The track which was recorded and produced at Railway Studios in Malta has been receiving a lot of traction since it's release a couple of hours ago and this is surely due to the personal message invoked with the beautiful female vocals on offer. As a matter of fact, Sensitive Skin is a duo made up of Chris Tanti and Cheryl Balzan with the male counterpart responsible for both the music and the lyrics of the debut release leaving all of the emotional vocal acrobatics to the female. It is quite…

Malta: Ludwig and Franklin Duet Released
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
In recent months, exclusive news was released on escflashmalta.com with regards to the submission of a duet within the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest which unfortunately did not make it beyond the first phase and it seems that the submitted entry was officially released to the public in the past couple of days under the title name Crescendo with music by Augusto Cardinali to the lyrics of Giovann Attard. Franklin Calleja & Ludwig Galea barely need any introduction in the local music scene having been in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the latter having even went to the international showcase respectively back in 2004 alongside Julie Zahra with the track On Again .. Off Again composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg. Â Ludwig Galea has become a key supporter of Franklin Calleja's career in the past couple of months having first met him during the…

Malta: Gianluca Bezzina's Funk Initiative Are Back
Written by Emil Calleja Bayliss
Maltese Eurovision representative, Gianluca Bezzina was better known as the lead singer for upcoming band Funk Initiative which took everyone by surprise by presenting a new genre which few would have thought to explore but at the end of the day this collaboration between friends who happened to be musicians worked well. Their success started by winning the KSU Singers and Songwriters showcase held between 2009 and 2010, whilst they finished as runners up at the MKSU Battle of the Bands. Not just that but their what started as a University venture took them well beyond that as they were also nominated for the best upcoming talent in the two most  prestigious music awards on our islands – the Bay Music Awards and the Malta Music Awards. MESC 2013: 'When It's Time' Digitally Released
Written by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Claudia Faniello, one of the finalists in this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is somewhat continuing the successful trends of releasing material through a digital store because following the earlier release of Deborah C, she follows with her entry When It's Time co-written alongside Errol Sammut of Airport Impressions. The formidable female performer decided to rebrand her image in the competition and has taken up a genre which she has been somewhat playing about with for quite some time, noting pop/rock influences in the form of Movie In My Mind composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg back in 2011. Finishing in fifth place with the public, and seventh place with the jury out of a selection process which comprised of sixteen songs was quite intriguing for her new genre, with the final placing being seventh in total. When It's Time has received positive…
