The Public Broadcasting Services has been a member of the European Broadcasting Union for many years and therefore supports our entry for the Eurovision Song Contest annually by virtue of providing a showcase for local artists to give their all and ultimately try to represent the Maltese flag in the country that won the international event within the previous year. Apart from broadcasting the competition, the Public Broadcasting Services wanted a more active role in the proceedings and in 2009, took over the competition entirely and from then onwards, following a series of systematic trial and error runs, the format was decided in favour of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, the current competition which was started back in 2011 by none other than the Chief Executive Officer; Anton Attard who also acts as the Head of Delegation for the country during the prestigious music event. The semi-final and final format…

BMA 2012: The Songs Which Stand Out

Written by
The features with regards to the upcoming edition of the Bay Music Awards officially come to an end with the revelation of the tracks which the radio station has selected to represent the best elements of the industry for the past couple of months. Separate categories have already been well represented by solo artists or bands, those of which have already earned the right to be called established as well as those who are ready for their big break. In recent years, tracks released by local artists have been earning several positive criticism from foreign members of the press and this is due to the fact that there is more thought put in behind every piece of lyric and every note within the composition in itself. Record studios have become much more professionalism and production is sometimes even conducted abroad in order to have that perfect enhancement. 89.7 Bay has…

BMA 2012: Solo Artists That Stand Out

Written by
In the past, the local music scene was somewhat well adapted to promoting artists who had a solid solo career rather than possibly those who would team up and create a band although, the few which eventually did managed to release some stunning music as we pay them tribute. This has been a changing trend noting that there are a number of bands presently and they have been achieving a lot of success on both local and foreign waters, making them somewhat enviable at times. One should not fret about the other section of the industry though because the artists who are trying to do it on their own are also managing to find their feet with some funky modern music which is always enjoyed by the masses. 89.7 Bay has always been on the forefront to promote talent which is spectacular and easy on the ear. Therefore, it is…
