KKI 2013: Final for Passport 2 Indifest Setup
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissMedia.Link Communications takes pride in promoting the local music scene henceforth why they organise the annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, a competition in which vocalists have to perform original songs in their respective mother tongue. Ira Losco and Claudia Faniello, two of the most notable stars at the moment both started from this competition before going onto release more material and many will hope to follow in their footsteps. Media.Link Communications in accordance with the committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza worked to include a wildcard into the competition, one which would be granted through a singing competition entitled Passport 2 Indifest held on Sas-Sitta produced by Spiteri Lucas Entertainment.

The recipient of the wildcard last year was Simone Gauci with the track Id F'Id composed by Renato Briffa and penned by Keith Zammit, finishing in a respectable mid-table position. It is worth pointing out that the first finalist selected last week was none other than Karen DeBattista, a former finalist in the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest as well as a second round qualifier in this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Today the semi-final featured Marie Claire Attard Bason, a Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza finalist in 2009 with Ma Rridx Ninbidel and Letizia Seychell who was a contestant in the show Don't Stop Me Now hosted by Eileen Montestin.
The first performance of the duel was done by Letizia Seychell who gave her very own rendition of Kieku Taf? originally sung by Corazon during L-Għanja tal-Poplu competition in 2006. Marie Claire Attard Bason followed with her rendition of the song Ħallini Inħobbok originally performed by Georgina during the Festival Kanzunetta Maltija 1999. The jury as last week was composed of Annabelle Debono, former winner of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as well as Janvil, runner-up of the 2005 Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Neville Refalo, multiple finalist in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. In the end, it was Marie Claire Attard Bason who won the hearts of the judges and will thus face Karen DeBattista. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com as the result is unveiled next week.

Azerbaijan: Extensive Promo Tour for Farid
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissFarid Mammadov and his entry Hold Me composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos with lyrics by John Ballard and Ralph Charlie has recently embarked on an extensive promotional tour ahead of his appearance at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest set to take place in Malmö, Sweden. Ictimai Television, the broadcaster responsible for the participation of the country within the esteemed international competition held a national final at the beginning of the month which selected both the artist and the entry, something that has not happened in Azerbaijan in quite some time.

Rome, the capital city of Italy was the kick off point of the promotional tour for Farid Mammadov as he performed during a concert held on behalf of Azerbaijani Students and Alumni International Forum. This was his first time in the country and therefore took some time off his schedule to sight see and ultimately ended up taking a lot of photos just like any other tourist would. Next up will be Athens, the capital city of Greece where Farid will be performing at a Eurovision Party held at the Noiz Club on the 7th April. The event is being organised by Eurovision fansite, Oikotimes in light of their twelve year anniversary. Farid will also be giving interviews to several media outlets including; ERT, Oikotimes, Star Channel, Showtime Cyprus and many others. It will be quite interesting to see whether Farid will be coming over to Malta during his promotional tour to ascertain relations between the two countries. Maximum points have been given by Malta to Azerbaijan in the past three years. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

Moldova: 'O Mie' Flashmob for Eurovision Postcard
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissMoldova, one of the most successful countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has managed to qualify through to the final on seven attempts out of eight with the odd one out being Geta Burlacu with her entry A Century of Love. Last year, the country represented by Pasha Parfeny and the song Lăutar achieved the third best result and this year, one of his backing vocalists, by the name of Aliona Moon will be taking to the stage of the first semi-final in Malmö with the track O Mie. During the course of the week, the postcard which will introduce her performance was recorded.

It seems that it might actually include parts of the entry which she would be performing moments later according to a video which appeared online. TRM, the broadcaster responsible for the participation of Moldova has always selected competent artists with a stunning vocal range and the juries along with the public have awarded the choices well. Aliona Moon seems to be carrying the torch in a positive manner because her performance during the national final was just stunning and despite the large selection of entries, it was truly a stand out entry. O Mie which translates into A Million is also co-written by Pasha Parfeni who as already been noted down was last years' representative. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest as soon as it becomes available.

Italy: Marco Mengoni Hits Number #1 Twice
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissL'Essenziale, co-written by Roberto Casalino, Francesco de Benedettis and Marco Mengoni will be the representative entry of Italy in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Since their return to the international showcase two years ago, Italy has been extremely successful managing to finish as the first runner-up in 2011 with the song Follia D'Amore (Madness of Love) performed by Raphael Gualazzi and also in ninth place last year when Nina Zilli took to the stage with the track L'Amore e Femmina (Out of Love). It seems that the professional jury which picked Marco Mengoni might have done the right choice in order to increase viewership and give the showcase more prestige.

Solo 2.0 was the debut album of Marco Mengoni released in 2011 under the RCA Label Group imprint and managing to peak at number #1 apart from being certified Gold but nevertheless, it seems that the Sanremo victory has helped improve on those statistics because his sophomore album entitled #prontocorrere under the Sony Music imprint has also peaked at number #1 whilst looking to be certified even better than Gold. L'Essenziale is one of the tracks on the album and it is also currently at number #1 on the singles charts. Marco Mengoni has just been photographed for the second time in a matter of months for the cover of Vanity Fair and this is definitely a hero in the eyes of the Italians. His fan base is astonishing and the song that will represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest has almost ten million views. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

Denmark: Emmelie de Forest has High Expectations
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissOnly Teardrops, co-written by Lise Cabble, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Thomas Stengaard with vocals provided by Emmelie de Forest will represent Denmark in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Malmö, Sweden. In a recent interview given to the official website of the international showcase, the young yet extremely talented Emmelie spoke of her excitement to take on the stage in a country which is her second home whilst adding 'we will definitely be top five'. This might be the right attitude in the mind of a performer but definitely not the right one in front of the cameras to be honest.

One of the most intriguing cases in the Eurovision Song Contest is surely that one track which is said to do quite well ends up performing badly for example, Denmark in last years' competition was definitely one of the favourites but despite qualification the song entitled Should've Known Better performed by Soluna Samay could only muster up twenty-one (21) points to finish in a disappointing twenty-third (23rd) place. Only Teardrops will be performed on behalf of Denmark in the fifth slot of the first semi-final, a slot which has never managed a qualifier in the past. Emmelie de Forest will most likely change their statistic come May. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more of the latest news.

Croatia: Promoting the Nation Through 'Hard Times'
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissHRT, the broadcaster responsible for the participation of Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest has been rather unsuccessful in recent years with the past three entries, two of which were selected through a public competition failing to get through to the final of the esteemed music event. This year, albeit keeping in line with an internal selection, the song was decided by a professional jury with the request from the broadcaster being a traditional genre, more commonly known in the area as Klapa. Whether this will prove successful is unknown but it is definitely different and representing a heritage which goes back hundreds of years.

Croatia will be competing in slot number #4 within the first semi-final of this years' Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Sweden with the track Mižerja performed by a group of tenors known as Klapa s Mora. The meaning behind the title in itself is quite simple because they are all from cities near the sea and therefore when translated it would read out Klapa from the Sea. Earlier today, the National Croatian Tourism Board unveiled two videos to promote the country with Mižerja but whilst one is in the national language, the other one is in English and bears the name Hard Times rather than Misery as one would have expected. The official preview video will be published on the 11th April. You may also download the ringtones of the track either in English or Croatia through the official website of the broadcaster. All of the songs were formally submitted to the European Broadcasting Union a couple of days back and therefore, most of the versions being presented now are the final ones that will be performed during this years' Eurovision Song Contest. Music Videos are a necessary promotional tool in the market and with the right adjustments, a track would reach its full potential. Malta officially released their music video around two weeks ago featuring a vintage outlook of the performing band, Jeremy and his new mysterious love. A story-telling affair, in the true sense of the word. Today, Slovenia have unveiled their final product as well, and frankly, it has really improved.

Straight Into Love, heavily features more electronic bears in this new version surely to encompass the genre and the theme better. The music video in itself features several dark shots, with neon coloured lines. The protagonist is the performer, Hannah who is seen either along or surrounded by male dancers throughout. The man who Hannah has set her sights on has also been exposed and there are quite a number of shots which depict him in the best possible manner. There are some extra lyrics following the first different which despite being extremely minor changes make the track sound more unique. Like many of the others songs selected, the revamp has been substantial. Slovenia will be perform in slot number #3 within the first semi-final. Sweden: Acoustic Version of 'You' Released
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissYou, co-written by Linnea Deb, Joy Deb, Joakim Harestad Haukaas and also vocalist Robin Stjernberg is being considered as an outside for victory at this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest having already topped the national charts. The winning entry for the 2013 edition of the Melodifestivalen was not the public choice with Yohio and his entry Heartbreak Hotel receiving the maximum number of points but nevertheless, the international jury did not see the potential in that particular track, selecting You by far and large. The former Idol runner-up has just released a brand new version of the song, stipped down and performed acoustically on the piano.

Idol, the same one which Kevin Borg won a couple of years back was somewhat extremely kind to Robin Stjernberg because despite finishing as the first runner-up there, he managed to beat his former contestant in the Melodifestivalen noting that Amanda Fondell with her song Dumb did not even get through her respective semi-final. In an interview published on escflashmalta.com prior to his semi-final performance at the Melodifestivalen, Robin Stjernberg stated that he is working on his debut album which might also be including some tracks from the aforementioned Kevin Borg, runner-up in this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest. It is important to denote that this will not be the version of You performed in the sixteenth slot in the final of this years' Eurovision Song Contest. Malta: Original Band Members Retained for Malmö
Written by Marc Calleja BaylissGianluca, the artist who will be representing Malta in the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Malmo, Sweden with the track Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat has been relatively busy in these past couple of days with a number of foreign interviews which the editorial board of escflashmalta.com has been skimming through. One of the most intriguing elements that we have picked up is definitely the fact that the team that accompanied Gianluca on stage will be retained for the performance in May which is a step in the right direction noting that the package itself is what the jury and the public decided upon.

Infact, whilst the main vocalist is Gianluca, he is aided by Kenny D'Ugo on the ukelele, Gabriel Cassar on bass, Chris Tate on drums as well as Louise Ann Bugeja Tate and Samaria Bezzina who are exclusively acting as backing vocals. Gianluca is currently juggling his daily routine of medical work alongside those of being the Maltese representative at this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Within the next couple of weeks, he will be flying over to The Netherlands for the EurovisionInConcert as well as the United Kingdom for the annual London Preview Party. During another particular interview, published on EurovisionIreland, it has to be noted that our vocalist is being given vocal lessons by his sister, Dorothy Bezzina who also took part in this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the track Starting from the End composed by Magnus Kaxe to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg.
