At the end of January, Ira Losco was chosen by the professional jury, and the public-at-large as the winner of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with "Chameleon", an original song she co-wrote with Howard Keith, Peter Borg and Matthew James Borg, collectively known as Talkback.
Just a couple of days later, it emerged that the Public Broadcasting Services, in discussion with both Ira Losco and Howard Keith, that revisiting the song was an option, and indeed it was revealed that "Chameleon" entered in a tight race with another nine (9) original songs, which would be judged by numerous local and foreign experts.
Just days ago, a new cover photo on the Eurovision Song Malta page on social media website Facebook was uploading with the symbol and three letters, #WOW. It might be an acronym but the blood is boiling and tensions are rising as expectations soar. Ira Losco and her team are currently filming the music video, getting ready to submit the final package during the Heads of Delegation Meeting this Monday and Tuesday.
She is expected to also appear on Xarabank on Friday 18th March, a day following the release date slated for Thursday 17th March 2016. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

The 40th edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu, will be undergoing a radical change, as it will be merging with the Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija, with the support of the Creative Space, The Malta Council for the Arts, and the Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The aim of this re-branding is to ensure that the local music scene, and most particularly, the Maltese language flourishes further.
Those who will be lucky to make it to the final shortlist will have the opportunity to be accompanied on stage by the Public Broadcasting Services Orchestra, which made it’s official debut a couple of months back, under the leadership of Maestro Joe Brown, and Maestro Paul Abela.
Each submission, not longer than 3 minutes and a half, will be received at the L-Għanja tal-Poplu Offices at 227, Merchant Street in Valletta, against a payment of €30 on the 19th April 2016. The committee will also give 2 complimentary tickets to the artist who submits a song. Following in the footsteps of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, L-Għanja tal-Poplu – Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija will be staged at ‘Pjazza Teatru Rjal’ in Valletta.
It is also worth noting that another innovative change is that the event will be organised on two evenings, on the 7th and the 9th July. The idea is to have a semi-final and a final, as opposed to just a one-nighter event. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook or Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.
In 2014, Nadine Axisa released "Velvet", a twelve track collection of original songs in smooth jazz style. Since the launch of the album, the veteran female singer has kept herself rather busy both locally and overseas.
She performed in "A Night of Modern Jazz" (May 2014), Perugia (July 2014), the Italian Jazz Festival in Berlin (December 2014), 'SONGS' (January 2015), and the Mediterranean Literature Festival (August 2015), among others. Her most recently performance was in Frankfurt in December 2015 at the European Cultural Days of the European Central Bank.
The album received favourable reviews including a four star review on the UK's Jazz Journal. Moreover, it was featured on local and international radios; the latter include virginiamusic.eu (a radio station dedicated to female jazz vocalists, Netherlands); 'Mainly jazz' on Alive 107.3fm, UK; RTP Play which is Portugal's official radio station and Channel Radio, UK.
On the 11th and 12th March 2016, Nadine will be performing the album 'Velvet' in its entirety at Robert Samut Hall Floriana, accompanied by four excellent musicians who will bring a wealth of experience to this performance.
For those who are already familiar with the album tunes, the event will be an opportunity to listen to the tunes interpreted by different musicians, with slight but effective and engaging changes to the arrangements. For Velvet first timers, it will be a night of smooth jazz tunes, fresh and relaxing melodies; an exquisite infusion of swing, latin and ballads.
Nadine will be accompanied by Joe Debono (piano), Oliver Degabriele (double bass), Joseph Camilleri (drums) and Walter Vella (saxophone and flute). These four jazzmen have studied their own discipline; they hold a track record of recording and performing with various artists both locally and internationally.
In order to obtain tickets for the event, costing €14 (or €12, early bird) please visit www.ticketline.com.mt, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

The Travellers, a new, young and energetic band, will be releasing their debut single, "Sempliċità" on the 12th of this month, followed by another single and the launch of their first 5 track Extended Play (EP) later on in 2016.
The band got together in 2013, with one aim in mind, that of trying to create something different in the already wide diversified local music scene.
Clayton (Bassist), Joseph (Trumpet), Chris (Main Vocals) and Andrew (Guitarist), have been in the music scene from a very young age and their love for Music grew fonder as they grew older. On the other hand, Sylvano (saxophone) and Michael (drummer) joined the rest of the band later on in 2013. This marked the inception of The Travellers.
All the members of The Travellers hail from Gozo and are very frequent commuters, crossing the channel to and from Malta regularly, hence the name of the band seemed the most appropriate and was an obvious choice.
In the past year, the band has been working on a mix of contemporary music incorporating brass and Maltese lyrics. This had originally started more of a curiosity and the band started experimenting with how their melodious tunes would sound when combined with the Maltese language on contemporary rhythms. The aim behind this was to change the concept of Maltese diction in music on the islands.
This does not mean that the band is restricting their music to Maltese, but are leaving all their options open and are excited to see what the future holds. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest about the local music scene.
