It's Official! Malta has been chosen as host country for the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, making the Public Broadcasting Services the host broadcaster for the second time in three (3) years. This time round, the small nation in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea will be hosting the event in Valletta, the capital city, and also European City of Culture 2018.

This opportunity comes as a result of Destiny Chukunyere who blew everyone away with her clear distinctive soulful voice during a masterful rendition of "Not My Soul", an original song composed by Elton Zarb to the lyrics of Matt 'Muxu' Mercieca, with Destiny aiding in both fields. This year's edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be undergoing some format changes.

The main change which has been pointed out is that the event will be moving from Saturday evening slot to Sunday afternoon, with 20th November chosen as the preliminary date. At this point in time, there is no fixed venue, noting that the Public Broadcasting Services and the European Broadcasting Union will be making use of various venues around Valletta.

Anton Attard, the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Broacasting Services will again act as Executive Producer having taken the role in 2014. He said he was thrilled to organise the event again: "Within PBS we have tried to challenge every aspect of Junior Eurovision, based on our experience of hosting in 2014. We can again promise a high-quality production, together with some new additions to the format, as well as our Maltese hospitality to everyone who joins us in Malta this November."

More details about the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be given during a joint press conference between the two entities at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Written by

At the moment Ira Losco is extensively touring Europe attending one preview party to another in a bid to promote "Walk on Water", the original song which she co-wrote with Tim Larsson, Lisa Desmond, Molly Pettersson-Hammar and Tobias Lundgren, which she will present on behalf of Malta during the 1st semi-final on the 10th May 2016.

Although surprise is a key-element in the presentation, certain details about the on-stage team have already been made public with Skorpion, a renowned male dancer who has accompanied Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift and Madonna chosen to choreograph and Anna Azzopardi and Pamela Bezzina picked as backing vocalists.

This will not be the first time that either of the two ladies have gone to the Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist, noting that Anna had previously accompanied Lynn Chircop during "To Dream Again" back in 2003, and Pamela had been on stage with Thea Garrett and "My Dream" in 2010 as well as Glen Vella and "One Life" in 2011.

It is well worth pointing out that Pamela was also the vocal coach for Firelight in 2014, and Amber in 2015. She will be taking on the dual role at this years' international music competition. Claudia Faniello, a female singer/songwriter who requires no introduction whatsoever, having made her mark in the local music scene by partaking in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on various occasions, finishing as the 1st runner-up in 2008 and 2012, is back with a new single. “You Said”, which she penned herself is particularly striking for its sense of emotion and ambiance, combining several elements which the people have come to enjoy in a new sound which is bound to receive a positive response.

‘I’m thrilled to release “You Said” because it is another tune which is nothing like I’ve done in the past and it talks about a situation that everyone can relate to. I have taken my time to concentrate on this particular tune which is close to my heart; I want to tell stories through my music. This is a taste of what I’ve been working on and evolving into’, commented Claudio Faniello, in light of her new release, the follow-up to “Miles Away”, a song which she co-wrote with Ryan Magro.

In support of “You Said”, a music video has been launched, which could be seen on her YouTube Channel, along with any other previous original material. Through the 8 o'clock news bulletin, the Public Broadcasting Services gave the first airplay to "Walk On Water", an original song co-written by Lisa Desmond, Tim Larsson, Tobias Lundgren, Molly Pettersson-Hammar and Ira Losco, the latter of which was chosen as the representative through the Malta Eurovision Song Contest which took place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre back in January. Reception thus far has been extremely positive, with the bookmakers instilling a positive outlook on Malta's chances for success at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

From an objective point of view, "Walk On Water" is a modern pop song, with hints of dance and soul, not too different from the genres scaling the charts all over the world at the moment, noting the relevant success of acts such as Sigma and Emeli Sande. The highlight of the song, apart from the rousing beat, is the last minute which features soaring vocals.

The music video, features the female singer/songwriter in various outfits, accompanied by a male dancer most of the time in several locations in Malta and Gozo. It is very well produced, and adds an aura of professionalism towards the effort that the people behind Malta's participation in the international competition is putting. We urge you to support Malta, and stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Gerard James Borg, one of Malta's most successful songwriters, responsible for penning the lyrics for no less than 6 competing entries in the Eurovision Song Contest has recently been involved in a project, a new single entitled "Revolving Doors" featuring Hallgrimur Oskarsson as the composer, and Johanna Gudrun (Yohanna) as the lead vocalist.

Yohanna, the runner-up in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with "Is It True?" and recipient of the maximum 12 points from the Maltese Tele-Vote and Professional Jury, has kept a rather low profile since trying to return to the international competition back in 2013, noting that she gave birth in October 2015.

Her comeback single "Revolving Doors", is a beautiful ballad, with hints of country, which soars into true vocal depth. On the other hand, Gerard has focused his creative talent on novels, and thus far it seems that he has been truly successful, noting the release of two best-sellers; "Sliema Wives" and "Madliena Married Men".

You can listen to the song, whilst also following the lyrics through the video below, as we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.
