One of the leading bands in the Maltese Islands nowadays is for sure Airport Impressions.  After their outstanding performance in front of 5,000 people in Zejtun, a couple of days ago, they were confirmed as the main band at the inauguration of the most modern drag racing arena in Europe.  This will be part of the  prestigious FIA European Drag Racing championship.  The opening ceremony will feature a live and electric concert by Airport Impressions.

The Tierp Arena, which is built just 1 hour north of the Swedish capital Stockholm, will be fully booked for this 3-day racing event.  Performing in front of an audience of 20,000 people, Airport Impressions will play a full electric set on Saturday 11th June 2011.  They will also feature on Swedish television and radio stations throughout their stay. Mr. Leif Andersson, who is a three time European Championship and the man behind this new built arena, was also present during the Zejtun concert.  He was thrilled with the performance of the band.  In fact, his comments stated that the band passion during the performance was something that he had never seen for years.  He is convinced that Airport Impressions will be the best choice for the opening of this arena.

Howard Keith, the bands manager stated that they have been working very hard for their acts, and this summer will not be an exception when it comes to live shows in other foreign countries.  Although last November they signed a non exclusive deal with a tour booking agency for their acts, it’s always the cherry on the cake to be invited to such BIG shows and summer festivals.  The best way to promote an act is always live but sometimes doing the small club circuit can be a burden on the finance side.  This may lead to leave the acts with no significant results.  Obviously these kinds of offers are always tough to conclude.  Howard Keith is convinced that  Airport Impressions has developed into  a great live band and he is very confident that their journey is about to begin.

In the meantime, the band, made up of 4 members, has a very busy schedule in the coming days in the Maltese Islands.  Following the already mentioned Zejtun concert and their well received show at the Valletta Waterfront during James Blunt’s concert, Airport Impressions are set to perform on the 25th June at the Numer Uno.  They will play a live electric set.  This performance will also mark the launch of their brand new single from their debut album Minutes of Lifetime.  'Retro Star' will be launched in the coming days followed by a music video.

The front man of the band, Errol Sammut, together with the rest of the band, stated that they have always looked ahead in a positive way and after 3 years, they are determined to keep on going.  They are aware that this kind of work is very fluid, but eventually, hard work is always paid off.  Their album has exceeded the expectations and thanks to their audience and fans, they have the strength to move on. The band is extremely happy for this great experience and opportunity and they do look forward to take their music out internationally!

One of the slogans which many avid Maltese music followers have taken to heart is surely 'Live Life the Bay Way' with the radio station becoming even more popular with each passing day within a number of time-slots. Once, more we are keeping tabs on the local top ten which is presented to the public every Saturday Afternoon by none other than Nathan D. In the latest chart updated announced a couple of days ago, there have been quite a couple of changes especially near the top of the chart.

At the helm of the chart for the very first time are none other than The Crowns whose debut single 'Memories' has been on the rise since it's initial entry a couple of weeks ago. This was one of the local bands which we have recently previewed on our website and with a slick start in the industry, it seems like more success will be on the way for the lads. In the meantime, taking on position number two also for the very first time with the track 'Sun Won't Shine' are Wintermoods, definitely a crowd pleaser actually noting that they have managed to garner quite the fan-base over the years. Other songs on the rise this week are the three songs which were new entries last week meaning Davinia whose 'Bottled My Teardrops' has now reached number #5 in the charts, Raquela whose 'Entertain Me' is causing quite the stir going up to position number #6 and of course Cable 35 who will soon be launching their debut album hitting the chart at position #9 with their brand new single 'Memories'.

Unfortunately, it seems like next week, we will be seeing a change within the chart, and a huge one indeed as many songs seems to be heading out of the top ten with the three week leader 'Far Into The Night (Without You)' performed by No Snow/No Alps heading down to position number #3. Further down the chart, there is 'Really Care' by Permanent State Feat. Taya Cade now at position #7 as well as 'Take The Blame' by Relikc which peaked at number #7 just last week falling down to number #8 this week but still a success indeed. There was one non-mover for this past week in the form of Bridget Bone whose song 'Monkey Role' is standing at position number #4 whilst there has also been a new entry at position #10 with Three Stops To China and their single 'The Courtney Effect'. You can listen to the whole show with all of the gossip, buzz and so forth in the industry by playing the link below. See you again for another update in a weeks' time.

One of the major showcases in the local music industry is surely the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which in the past couple of years has become the major showcase for the official language of the country which is that of Maltese. A host of well known performers submit their interest within the showcase by presenting their own material. With five weeks in tow since the commencement of the tele-voting, things are now heating up and with promotion of each track given through the summer programme 'Indifest' which is hosted by Charles and Elaine Saliba, things look to be heading into the right direction as we see the organization of the twentieth edition taking place. The final of the event is taking place on Monday 19th September 2011 and the hosts mentioned will also be the ones taking the audience through the evening. The local music scene has been expanding over a number of genres in recent years with pop remaining the most predominant thanks to the sound attributed with the Eurovision Song Contest as well as the spectrum of local bands but there is more to it because the Maltese Islands also have a name for their rock and metal music scene which has been establishing itself on very good pacing. One of the artists who prides herself with dark and powerful material is Marvic Lewis, better known as Indigo.

The singer who had once been a participant within the Maltese national selection for the biggest musical event in Europe alongside her sister and now former representative Olivia Lewis has taken a very interesting route with her career developing a dark side to her music and expressing herself in the best possible way. In recent weeks, Indigo has launched a brand new song under the title 'Not The End' which has been written by a total of four individuals including the singer herself. You can listen to the track through the video link provided below noting that the artist is promoting the track with an official video.

The Maltese Islands are known for their rousing talent actually and one of the names which has always impressed with her live performances is Priscilla Psaila who has now adopted the stage name of Kaya. She is now set to go well and truly international giving a performance to an audience of over 1,000,000 people in concert at the annual 'Couture Fashion Week' which takes place within the city of New York as you can see here. This is actually the very first time that a Maltese artist takes centre stage at such an event.

The event became possible to Kaya after having been heard by Andres Aquino, who is a fashion show producer as well as a renowned fashion designer. The event which will include a Red Carpet and Concert double extravaganza will be taking place at the incredible 'Waldorf Astoria' where the Maltese singer will also be staying. All of the events during the week are being broadcast within the United States of America and also to eighteen (18) other nations worldwide. A number of performers from all around the globe have been selected to perform.

Kaya is already an established singer/songwriter in Malta having started to perform at the very tender age of six (6). She preserved in her musical studies and sat for several classical voice, theory and piano exams held by the Victoria, Royal and Trinity schools of music in London, United Kingdom. Kaya soon took to singing and before she knew it was already chosen to appear on Television on a music program which ran for two years. Then she became widely known in the country finishing in the second runner-up position at the 2000 Malta Song for Europe leading to performance in Lithuania, Romania, Italy, Poland, Germany, and Spain amongst others.

Kaya has also worked hand in hand with numerous composers and was recently spotted by Hollywood Composer William Camilleri who is signed to a major Music/Film Company in Beverly Hills and whose credits include such epics as Brave heart, The Silence of the Lambs and numerous other Hollywood Blockbusters. www.filmworks-online.com

William Camilleri was launching his latest CD Hit Pop Songs when he came across Kaya singing on You tube and could quickly tell this was a rare talent to be reckoned with, William then contacted Kaya and composed a song specifically for her and this sparked off the interest of the “Couture Fashion” who heard a sample of it on his website. The producers then contacted William  and were astounded by the song and by Kaya's voice which now led to Kaya singing at this event in concert. Kaya is being given her own display table to present Malta in New York and also Red Carpet interviews.

William Camilleri noticed the Kaya's incredible talent immediately, as when Kaya sings she has an emotional impact that is rare today and is becoming one of the worlds leading vocalists. Kaya's vocal range is astonishing and she is equally at home singing pop or classical music. Kaya will publish her new album “Your Touch” in March.
