A record number of 872 entries have been submitted for next years' edition of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the selection process which will see an act represent Denmark on home soil following the astonishing victory achieved by Emmelie de Forest and her song Only Teardrops. Earlier this year, DR had received 692 submissions, a number which has been considerably dwarfed by around 200 more songs. It continues with the strong tradition of hundreds of submissions in countries within the Scandinavian region as noted by Norway, Finland and Sweden.

In three (3) of the past four (4) years, the nation managed to finish in the top five (5) and gained resounding charting success with their 2011 entry New Tomorrow performed by the group A Friend In London who went onto record with the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen. Rasmus Ladefoged, responsible for the Entertainment Section at DR is excited about the prospect of finding another strong entry to represent the country. 'It is so cool! It’s really amazing! It ‘s a very special year for the Grand Prix this year, because we are going to host the Eurovision Song Contest. I think that has helped create the attention, that has now led to this great contribution'.

Whilst no speculation with regards to songwriters and artists has been noted in any tabloid, Ladefoged stated that there is a good mixture of amateur and professional songs whilst a number of wildcards will also be invited to compete within the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix slated to take place on the 8th March 2014 in Odense.
