International Music News

Chiara, a female singer/songwriter who has represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest on three occasions; in 1998 with "The One That I Love", in 2005 with "Angel" and in 2009 with "What If We" has recorded several demos for Marc Paelinck over the years, and it is heart-warming knowing that her big belting voice is still pretty much existent. In recent years, the balladeer has taken up a brand new genre, focusing more on dance, and pop rather than stick to what she has always done best. "Until I Find You" was one of the competing entries in the…
The European Broadcasting Union made an official announcement this morning that 39 countries have submit paperwork to participate in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria. Despite the withdrawal of Ukraine, this is relatively exciting news, as the event will feature two more countries than last year, following the return of Serbia, Cyprus and the Czech Republic. Malta is one of the few countries to have selected both the singer, and the entry, with Amber set to perform "Warrior" written by Elton Zarb and Matthew Mercieca in one of the two semi-finals. The participating countries are as follow; Albania,…
In 2013, male singer/songwriter Kevin Borg, made a much anticipated return to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with "Needing You" co-written with Danne Attlerud, Thomas Thornholm, Michael Clauss and Simon Gribbe. In a surprise first runner-up finish, the singer/songwriter stated that while he will not be making a return as a singer, he would dabble into songwriting. He kept to that promise, and submit "Breakaway", a track co-written with Simon Gribbe, for former Eurovision Song Contest representative, Glen Vella. The result was extremely respectable, finishing in third place, behind "Warrior" sung by Amber and "Rush" performed by Christabelle. Spending Christmas…
Alexander Rybak, a male singer/songwriter whose ascent to fame came as a result of a record breaking triumph at the 2009 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Fairytale" is somewhat targeting a return to the competition, albeit as a songwriter. Recently in the entertainment headlines over the title track of the movie "How to Save Your Dragon 2", the male singer/songwriter is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Back from Malta, where Alexander Rybak's entry "Still Here" performed by Franklin finished in 5th place, totalling 26 points including 8 from the public, now it's time to turn…
It has become custom for the international fansite oikotimes.com to organise the "Eurostar Award" in recognition for the hard work or special talent of a given individual, in line with events organised by the European Broadcasting Union or any of the member states. Malta is represented by no less than three acts; Federica Falzon (JESC 2014), Ekklesia Sisters (MESC 2015) and Nathalie Bonnici (JESC 2014 Transport Coordinator). Cast your vote by clicking here. With 10 nominees on the list, one has to denote that it features no less than 3 previous winners of the Eurovision Song Contest; Conchita Wurst (2014),…
In February, female singer/songwriter Ira Losco had the opportunity to co-host the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Gianluca Bezzina. This was the role of a lifetime, and one which they were asked to reprise for the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, an opportunity which they jointly declined due to other plans, including Gianluca's participation with L-Aħwa and the possibility of Ira Losco's return to the competition. In a recent interview with Wiwibloggs, Ira Losco went on record stating that the timing of a possible participation in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest was inadequate with two singles yet…
San Marino RTV, the public service broadcaster of San Marino organised a press conference earlier today, in order to reveal the representatives of the micro-state in the 2015 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Having not yet turned 16, Michele Perniola & Anita Simoncini are going to be given the opportunity to reprise their role as representatives for the tiny nation, but rather at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, where they achieved disappointing placings, at the adult event, which will hopefully prove to be a more fruitful experience. Born in 1998 and 1999, it is fair to state, that they…

It has been an extremely busy couple of weeks, with the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and the Malta Eurovision Song Contest staged at the Marsa Shipbuilding. In the former, it was Vincenzo Cantiello with "Tu Primo Grande Amore" on behalf of Italy whilst in the latter, it was all about Amber and her entry "Warrior", composed by Elton Zarb to the lyrics of Matt Muxu Mercieca. It was a groundbreaking victory, taking maximum points from all the jurors, including the public, who were on their feet as the results were being announced. Amber, competing in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest…
