Dilara Kazimova and András Kállay-Saunders, representatives of Azerbaijan and Hungary took the opportunity to do a volunteer shift at Dyrevaenets, an animal shelter in Copenhagen. It started with a tour around the shelter and a short introduction about how the individual should treat animals.

Both Dilara and Andras had a chance to see how dogs, cats, and rabbits live there, been taken care of and cured. Eventually, they also had the opportunity to walk two dogs, one each: a dachshund called Nanna and a Jack Russell Terrier named Quick. It was quite an emotional moment when both Dilara and Andras both gave the dogs special tags with the wording "From Azerbaijan with Love" and "From Hungary with Love" respectively. Dilara is an activist for animal protection in Baku. She's got a beautiful dachshund and a cat back in Baku.

She does not wear fur and takes part in charity events aimed to raise awareness on animal rights in society. "I was very interested to see how shelter is organised and managed in Denmark, so that maybe one day I can open my own in Baku? The visit was very emotional and I wanted to adopt every single dog there. They are so cute and loving!” says Dilara. After the visit Dilara got another idea how to contribute to the Dyreværnets shelter. She will reveal details about this project on May 2nd at 16:50 during her official press conference at Eurovision 2014.

Dilara Kazimova and András Kállay-Saunders will perform Start a Fire and Running during the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on the 6th May 2014, both favourites to make the final Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2014 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Aram Mp3, Sanna Nielsen and Dilara Kazimova have easily come out of the first day of rehearsals as favourites to win the Eurovision Song Contest with impressive backdrops and remarkable vocal performances. Not Alone, Undo and Start at Fire on behalf of Armenia, Sweden and Azerbaijan are three different ballads, all of which have a special something that will surely get the crowd and the jury going for them but nevertheless, only one has to win.

Aram Mp3 will be taking to the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest completely alone with the sole emphasis of the camera work on the backdrop which is seemingly space in the beginning of the song and then transforms into a series of designs. At the same time there is one spotlight, all focused on him and his vocal. He is currently first with the betting odds and I could very much see the appeal that this is going to have on the actual night of the semi-final, and of course, the final.

Sanna Nielsen has also decided to go solo on the stage with the delegation opting to make use of backing vocalists who will not be making an appearance yet whose vocals are heavenly. They add a lot to the different parts of the song with their harmony as Sanna stands in the middle of the stage and lets the technical crew film her best side basically. This is very similar to Armenia in presentation but yet more simplistic and one which has elevated in my personal rank. I see this one coming in the top three when it comes to the jury even though the public might hold back ever so slightly.

Dilara Kazimova will not be alone on stage but then again, this is Azerbaijan and we were definitely not expecting them to turn out without a proper presentation. Rather than a glass box which Farid Mammadov had during his first runner-up appearance last year, we have a dancing acrobat in mid-air but he does not distract from the song itself, which is sounding absolutely beautiful and haunting. Seems it has been a positive day for rehearsals. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Start a Fire co-written by Stefan Örn, Johan Kronlund and Alessandra Günthardt with vocals provided by Dilara Kazimova was internally chosen by a professional panel of judges to represent Azerbaijan in the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which will be taking place at the B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen, Denmark on the 6th, 8th and 10th May 2014. Prior to arriving in the Danish capital city, Dilara has decided to head into the studio once more to record two completely different versions of the song Start a Fire, one in similar genre yet in Azeri and the other one featuring a jazz genre.

Both of these recordings have been made available through viral website, YouTube whilst all respective information about the artist is available on her Official Facebook Fanpage. In the meantime, you may also stream and purchase the original and karaoke versions of Start a Fire through Spotify and iTunes respectively. Azerbaijan, one of the most successful countries to partake in the Eurovision Song Contest, even going onto record a victory back in 2011 thanks to Ell & Nikki with the song Running Scared will be hoping to improve on that record. Dilara Kazimova, internally chosen to represent Azerbaijan at the 2014 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be visiting Malta over the next couple of days as part of an international promotional tour which will see the female vocalist tour a total of five countries including The Netherlands, Russia, Georgia and Hungary. Performing Start a Fire co-written by Stefan Örn, Johan Kronlund & Alessandra Günthardt during the first semi-final will mean that the Mediterranean nation will not be able to support the song during the qualification phase, but then again, support in the final would be rest assured as Malta and Azerbaijan continue to strengthen relations.

Supported through a promotional campaign led by Euromedia Company, and digitally released on Amazon, iTunes and Spotify through CAP-Sounds with distribution by Universal Music Germany, it seems that the Azeri entry is heading for yet another positive result. Fans of the Eurovision Song Contest will definitely know that the eastern country has been a member of the elite top ten when it comes to the competition since their debut entry back in the 2008 edition, which in turn remains to this day, their worst result, achieving eighth place with a total of 132 points. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

ESC 2014: An In-Depth Review of Azerbaijan

It has become customary for the escflashmalta.com editorial board to engage professional individuals from the music industry to assess the songs competing in the Eurovision Song Contest as presented to the European Broadcasting Union during the Heads of Delegation Meeting. Martin Isherwood, Deo Grech, Stano Simor and Matt Mercieca from the United Kingdom, Malta and the Czech Republic have been entrusted with the first semi-final, comprising of sixteen songs and set to take place on the 6th May 2014 at the B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen, Denmark. Making use of the running order and thus moving onto number #8, we catch up with Azerbaijan (Ictimai) who will be represented by Dilara Kazimova and the song Start a Fire co-written by Stefan Örn, Johan Kronlund and Alessandra Günthardt.

First time Dilara took her chance in the Azerbaijani national selection as a band member of Unformal in 2008, when the country debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest. The band finished second in the national selection. Later, in 2010, Dilara qualified to the final as a part of a female duo Milk&Kisses. In the same year, she went to represent Azerbaijan at another international music festival New Wave in Yurmala, Latvia. Dilara has what it takes to be a standout. Early vocal training gave her a great range and vocal discipline. As a child, she was surrounded by different music, from opera and classics to the rock legends like Freddie Mercury. Not to mention the influence of traditional Azeri folk music.

She’s taken elements from each of these diverse genres, developing her own unique vocal style brilliantly showed at this year's Azerbaijani final of Böyük Səhnə. Dilara is remarkably flexible, handling a Motown inspired Mercy with soul and impressive energy or a jazzy cover of Hometown Glory which may actually be as good as Adele’s original effort. Dilara began to sing professionally at age of 14. For the last 15 years, she has been experimenting with variety of styles and training her versatile voice. She was introduced to music professionally at the U. Hajibekov Baku Academy of Music. Later on she graduated as an opera singer from Baku Conservatory.

Besides music Dilara has a passion for painting and acting. Her filmography includes Try, Do Not Breathe (2006) and In-between (2007), where besides acting she has also created a soundtrack Sonzul Yol. One of her next planned steps for future is to combine music with acting in musical. Dilara is in her top shape as an artist. Fans of live music in Baku know her as one of the most wanted and most discussed guest of city’s modern alternative stage. When she’s got a chance, Dilara spends her spare time in the yoga studio or reading books on psychology. She also loves animals and never wears fur in life or on stage, as a sign of respect towards all the animals in existence. In the meantime, it is worth pointing out that her single for the Eurovision Song Contest has been published by German record label, CAP-Sounds.

Azerbaijan, one of the nations to have joined the family of the Eurovision Song Contest in recent years, making an instant impact noting that they have always managed to enter the top ten, and that their worst result was actually achieved back in 2008 with the duo Elnur & Samir with their eccentric performance of the song Day After Day. It was back in 2011 when the nation achieve their first and thus far, only victory at the hands of another duo, a male and female known as Ell & Nikki whose entry Running Scared, considered by many a pop gem had succeeded in triumphing at the event. Last year, Azerbaijan was almost close to repeating that success as Farid Mammadov finished in second place with the song Hold Me.

Professional Critics Voice their Opinion

Rating: 76%

Martin Isherwood: Struggling with the sense of the lyrics.  All sounds very sad but I'm clueless! Nice smoky voice with an interesting vibrato and falsetto. Lovely melodies. Big production and nicely done. Very reminiscent of 'Read All About it’ Emile Sande.

Deo Grech: I am simply awed by the ability of how the Azeris manage to produce one incredible entry after the other.   Following closely on last year's entry Azerbaijan has produced yet another incredible ballad with interesting ethnic undertones.  This will surely be one to watch out for!   Yet another candidate for this year's battle of the ballads.

Stano Simor: Beautiful voice, wonderful song. thirties style in a modern design and making use of Azeri folklore. It is very specific. The song and the chorus do not have a hit factor, or any other factor for that matter, and it is somewhat required in a three minute performance!!

Matt Mercieca: I think the song is beautiful, and melody is beautiful, and it makes me feel all dreamy and nostalgic! I just wish I knew what she was saying, I love the kind of middle eastern touch at points, i wish diction was better cause I wanna understand her story a little more, but over all I love the vibe.
