MESC 2016: Claudia Faniello Denies Rumours

"I decided not to go for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest this time around, focusing on myself and new material, as part of a larger collection", echoed Claudia Faniello to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com, amidst growing rumours that she was eyeing a comeback.

Claudia Faniello first emerged onto the local music scene with "High Alert", an original song which got through to the final stages of the Malta Song for Europe 2006 with the vocals of Olivia Lewis, who had to interpret another song, "Spare a Moment", having obtained more points. As a result, the renowned songwriter chose the younger of the Faniello siblings, and from then onwards, she has gone from strength to strength.

Finishing as the first runner-up in 2008 with "Caravaggio",  composed by Ray Agius with lyrics by Godwin Sant, and in 2012 with "Pure", composed by Philip Vella with lyrics by Gerard James Borg, Claudia has cemented her place as the most successful female artist in the national selection not to win the competition. Her last participation came in 2013, with "When It's Time", which the singer/songwriter penned to the music of Errol Sammut.

Since then, she has focused on developing her own genre, working on a further two singles; "One Fine Day" and "Miles Away", with a third one in tow. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

Claudia Faniello, a female singer/songwriter and three-time runner-up at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has released a music video to accompany her latest single "One Fine Day". The song co-written with Errol Sammut, lead vocalist of Airport Impressions and produced by Sean Vella, son of the well known songwriter Philip Vella sees Claudia experiment with a new musical genre, focusing on a sound which is predominantly acoustic.

The music video, which has already amassed more than 3,000 views, is fun, fresh and extremely juvenile. Nevertheless, it is surrounded by an aura of professionality and shows that Claudia is not only returning to the music scene with a brand new sound, but that she has also matured and learned from the past. It is highly unlikely that the veteran of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest will make a return to Malta's national selection in the near future but then again, when such music is still being released by the singer/songwriter, it is a pleasure to have her around. Claudia Faniello, a female singer/songwriter and three-time runner up at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has released a new single entitled 'One Fine Day'. The song, co-written with Errol Sammut, lead vocalist of Airport Impressions comes following a short absence from the local music scene, and sees Claudia experiment with a new musical genre, focusing mainly acoustic guitars, piano and a jovial melody.

She commented “It is nothing like I’ve done in the past, it has a feel-good factor which I love and it talks about situations that everyone can relate to. I have taken my time to concentrate on how I want my sound to be like and especially what stories I want to tell through my music. This is a taste of what I’ve been working on and evolving into.”  A music video accompanying the song will be available in the coming weeks whilst a lyric video has already been uploaded for public viewing. More information about Claudia Faniello on her Official Facebook Page as well as her official website, which will be launched soon. Airport Impressions, a band which features; Errol Sammut, Johann Schembri, Chris Curmi and Steve Farrugia redefined the music scene with their debut album Minutes of a Lifetime back in 2010, giving the general public a feel of what proper pop/rock should sound like, has decided to rebrand themselves with a more folk/pop type of sound in the genre made famous by Mumford and Sons. In the past couple of days, a second album entitled Mariette, recorded and produced by Howard Keith of Jagged House was launched to positive acclaim by both members of the media and the public.

The release, preceded by their first single Hymns of June was given a boost by virtue of a first live performance at the Malta Music Awards early in February, where the band were nominated for a variety of awards missing out to their former record label mates Red Electrick. A digital copy of this album may be purchased through iTunes, where it has managed a top three placing on the charts for the past couple of weeks, whilst it could also be streamed through Spotify. We urge you to support the local music scene in the best possible way, especially with talented acts such as Airport Impressions. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all the latest news.

Malta: Days Away from Sophomore Album Launch

Airport Impressions, a band which features; Errol Sammut, Johann Schembri, Chris Curmi and Steve Farrugia redefined the music scene with their debut album Minutes of a Lifetime back in 2010, giving the general public a feel of what proper pop/rock should sound like, without having the added twists or turns that the foreign music industry might sometimes apply. As a result, this genre has become extremely popular and has also led to the creation of new bands and groups such as Cryptic Street, The Crowns and Planet Seed amongst others.

In music, a hiatus could mean one of two things, the first one being a period of coming together to re-group and ultimately come back with a bag of tricks and the second one is some downtime which lets the ideas flow to the mind. Airport Impressions seem to have combined the best elements of the two possible options leading to the release of their highly anticipate sophomore album Mariette which will be officially launched on the 9th April 2014. Led by the release of the first single Hymns of June, the album sees the band with a mature sound, keeping their pop/rock touch on music with an additional folk feel, a sound which has been endorsed by Of Monsters and Men as well as Mumford and Sons.

The flair for performing has never gone away, and neither has the one for songwriting with band members showing their true creative skills when giving performing in front of the masses as seen earlier this year during the Malta Music Awards held at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre. escflashmalta.com will be reviewing the album when released, and is looking forward to hearing what lies ahead from this band which has grown in our eyes as the most progressive, and fresh sounding act to feature in the local music scene. Stay tuned for all the latest news from the local music scene.

Airport impressions, which comprises of Errol Sammut, Johann Schembri, Chirs Curmi and Steve Farrugia are back, and have just released a new music video for the new single entitled Hymns of June, their first release off the yet untitled sophomore album due to the released early in 2014.

The video has been shot and produced in the UK by a British Manchester based production company and directed by experienced music video director Mr Adam Barker recently credited by Q-TV, Rock sound Magazine and other important names in the video industry. The music video was shot in Haworth, in the heart of the moors of the Bronte Country in West Yorkshire, which village is most famous for its authentic railway station which also features in the music video.

Mr Errol Sammut, front man of the band commented ‘we are honoured to have worked with such a professional production team and believe the ambience and landscapes have created a perfect set up for this type of song’. The song 'Hymns of June' features an ode to the simpleton and sees the band experiment into new musical ventures verging into folkish sounds which include the introduction of the banjo and double bass instruments alongside acoustic guitars amongst others.

Howard Keith, of Jagged House, their management company went onto state ‘Airport Impressions have come a long way and their songs are stronger than ever. The 2nd album is always the trickiest step for any band but I believe we have captured the essence of the band whilst leaving the album to have it’s own musical journey’. Stay up to date with the band through their Facebook Page and Official Website. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more of such local releases.

In 2012, Pure composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg with vocals by Claudia Faniello finished as the first runner-up at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. The track went onto top the iTunes chart in the country, ahead of the winning entry, This is the Night which represented Malta at the international showcase, succumbing to a disappointing final position. Since then, the public have reportedly kept on asking Claudia to perform the track and indeed, she did during Echoes, a street concert in support of Puttinu Cares.

The difference between the performance at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and the street concert is that at the latter, she performed the track in an unplugged manner and therefore, had to adapt with a timpani and a guitar. The result was fantastic and the emotion flowing through the vocals of the female vocalist was felt throughout the audience. Claudia Faniello returned to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year, with a track she co-wrote with Errol Sammut, one entitled When It's Time, finishing in second place and reaching number #2 on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay. Alongside her co-writer, she is working on her sophomore album, a follow-up to her debut Convincingly Better. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

Airport Impressions, the all male band which comprises of Errol Sammut, Chris Curmi, Johann Schembri and Steve Farrugia first came to prominence following the release of their debut studio collection, Minutes of a Lifetime which also included a series of hit songs including; Freedom, Elusive and Borderline, all of which had received significant airplay and thus a major starring role on leading radio stations. It has been three years since the release of the collection though and it seems that the group have been on hiatus as of late but nevertheless with Howard Keith as manager and producer, that break does eventually come to an end as ideas are transformed into melodies, harmonies and lyrics.

During the Għaxaq Music Festival, Airport Impressions unveiled some of the material that they have been working on in the studio and one could honestly feel a bit of Mumford and Sons as they performed Wishing Well, Berlin, and Starsigns to a crowd craving new material. This year, Errol Sammut was also part of the set-up at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest having composed the track When It's Time performed by Claudia Faniello. It is important to denote that the sound was significantly different from what has been seen from the female artist but nevertheless, suited her perfectly. They are currently working together on a series of tracks as Claudia Faniello prepares the release of her sophomore album. With regards to the yet-untitled project by Airport Impressions, Errol stated on stage that the album will be published within the next couple of months. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.
