Ovi and Paula are back in the public spotlight with a new project called 'OPS' as well as with a sound that is different from what their fans were used to. After a succesful 5 year collaboration, the two launch 'S.A.M.P. (She's After My Piano)'.

The project 'OPS' is a natural progression of a 5 year collaboration between Paula and Ovi. It appeared out of the desire to move forward under one name, so that the solo projects, Paula Seling and Ovi would be more distinctive. "The next songs that are to be launched in the duet formula will be under a new brand", Ovi stated.

"Projects with Ovi challenge me to explore new characters every time. 'S.A.M.P.' is no exception. Just like "Playing with Fire", there is a funny dialogue between us, a sort of play. Because this project is different from what we do on our own, we thought it would be better if it had an alternative name. "So, this is how 'OPS' came out”, said Paula Seling.

Music, lyrics and production belong to Ovi Jacobsen, Simen Eriksrud, Brynjard Buvarp Misvaer, Halloun Philip Paridon/ Harboe. Ovi and Paula have successfully represented Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest twice; in 2010 with "Playing with Fire" finishing in 3rd place and in 2014 with "Miracle" finishing in 12th place. In 2010, Thea Garrett had went on record stating that "music in life practically means everything, and that she aims to push as hard as she could in order to achieve her life's ambitions". This was audible during the postcard, prior to the performance of "My Dream", composed by Jason Paul Cassar to the lyrics of Sunny Aquilina, which would go onto triumph, winning almost the entire support of the professional panel of judges, and the public at home.

In a recent television interview with Owen Bonnici on the programme 'One Night Stand' which airs on ONE Television, Thea Garrett said that she would not consider going a step backwards and returning to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. The reasoning was that other opportunities should be taken as new avenues are explored. The singing sensation, now based in the United Kingdom, recently made it to the latter stages of a casting call for a role in the hit musical 'Les Miserables' on the West End. Paula & Ovi will be getting a second shot at representing Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest having just stormed to victory in the national selection following a brilliant performance of the song Miracle co-written by Ovidiu Cernăuțeanu, Phillip Halloun, Victor Forberg Skogberg and Frida Amundsen. It is worth pointing out that the final result was tilted by the professional members of the jury noting that the renowned duo of Paula and Ovi were only in second place following the public vote, with Vaida obtaining the most points.

I find Miracle not as strong as their former entry Playing With Fire but nevertheless, I expect it to be reworked upon prior to the Heads of Delegation Meeting on the 17th March 2014. Romania will compete in the second semi-final of this years’ edition of the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Malta who will be represented by Firelight and the song Coming Home written by Richard Edwards Micallef. Earlier this week, Ovi posted a teaser of a brand new song, entitled Miracle, which also happens to be a duet with renowned female vocalist Paula whom he had already joined forces to represent Romania at the 2010 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, to much success with Playing With Fire finishing in third place. The thirty (30) second teaser makes use of the generic logo of the 2014 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and the phrase ‘We Are Coming’ signalling that they will either be competing in a national final along with other artists or presumably having already been selected by the broadcaster, TVR to carry the honours in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In recent days, escflashmalta.com has been speaking to a number of individuals concerned with the participation of Romania in the international event and indications are clear that an internal selection is taking place with the final contractual details taking place at the moment. An announcement is imminent in order for Paula and Ovi to kick start their promotional tour as well as spread the word out that they are indeed back for a second time. In 2010, the Eurovision Song Contest was hosted in Oslo, Norway and the broadcaster responsible for the event held an extravagant national selection process which saw to the victory of Didrik Solli-Tangen with My Heart is Yours, a co-write between Frederik Kempe and Hanne Sørvaag. A cover version of the song by a local artist appeared on the internet in the past couple of hours with the vocalist being none other than Roger Tirazona, a former finalist at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and recent participant at the International Festival of Maltese Song.

Roger Tirazona is one of the most respected soloists in the local music scene and has been twice been close to representing Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest, first time in 2006 with the track This Heart of Mine and the second time in 2007 with the song Startlight, both composed by Paul Abela to the lyrics of Joe Julian Farrugia and with the group, Trilogy. When it comes to the cover of My Heart is Yours, one could denote that the approach to the music is a quiet one and the song has been stripped down a little bit more than the original. The aim is surely to let Roger’s vocals do all the required work without any musical interference. The result is stunning and remarkably better than the original. In 2010, Thea Garrett was the surprise winner of the Malta Eurosong competition with her entry My Dream composed by Jason Paul Cassar to the lyrics of Sunny Aquilina. Despite the fact that the track failed to get through to the finals, the female vocalist worked her way into the music industry by making a number of international contacts. Not only, having also moved to United Kingdom in order to further her studies at the London School of Musical Theatre, of which she has also become an alumni following her recent graduation.

In the year following her participation within the Eurovision Song Contest, Thea unveiled two follow-up singles, one entitled Frontline composed by Dean Muscat to the lyrics of John Galea and the second being a duet with Marcin Mrozinski bearing the name In Our Love composed by Jason Paul Cassar to the lyrics of Sunny Aquilina. It has been noted that Thea Garrett could possibly return to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest next year but she has stated on more than one occasion that it is highly unlikely that she would return to the competition unless something special happens. In the meantime, it is most likely the right call because with such a crisp diction and magnificient voice, musicals are more her oyster than the actual song competition. In 2009, Alexander Rybak secured the third victory for Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest with his song Fairytale and that has led to a rise in profile within the surrounding nations. Nevertheless, the Scandinavian country is not short of success within the annual competition having managed to win on three occasions including with the group Bobbysocks and Secret Garden in 1985 and 1995 respectively. Elisabeth Andreassen, who was part of the group Bobbysocks has joined Alexander Rybak and Didrik Solli-Tangen, representative at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest for a setlist of concert dates.

The setlist of concerts which took place during the month of July and came to an end during this past week was met with great approval for the second year running with tickets selling out at an extremely quick pace. All of the performances were accompanied by a five-man orchestra under the leadership of Maestro Øystein Lund Olafsen. The director of the show was Tom Sterri. This was the second year in a row that Bettan, Alexander & Didrik joined forces during the summer within the city of Tønsberg and the public clearly can't get enough.
