In 2014, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place on the 7th and 8th February, will comprise of twenty (20) entries, most of which have been penned by local songwriters. The announcement of the acts that got through to the semi-final stage of the competition took place on the programm; Xarabank produced by WE Media. As the list is known, the first meeting with the artists who made it through took place at the illustrious Excelsior Hotel in Floriana where the opening entry and the final entry to compete in the semi-final were drawn in random fashion.

It has been decided that Amber will open the competition on Friday evening with the song Because I Have You composed by Paul Giordimaina to Fleur Balzan's lyrics. In the meantime, closing the show is  Corazon with the track Ten composed by the same Paul Giordimaina and Fleur Balzan. During the course of the meeting, sources have informed us that the initial date for the recording of the promotional videos was announced.  For the first time in around two/three years, artists have the possibility to compete with pre-recorded backing vocals but one must note that this is not accepted by the European Broadcasting Union during the Eurovision Song Contest. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

escflashmalta.com was devised with the purpose of bringing about the latest news with regards to the local music industry and also the nations’ participation in the Eurovision Song Contest hence, it has become somewhat customary to come up with projects which help promote the artists competing in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. For the third consecutive year, we are proud to announce the return of the escflashmalta.com awards and for the first time ever, they will be presented by ONE Radio 92.7 FM.

As has become customary, escflashmalta.com will be handing out three (3) awards, one of which is the Public Award in which the general public will be voting for their most favourite three (3) songs competing in next years’ edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, albeit in accordance with our rules meaning that you would have one (1) vote for each song per IP Address, meaning that you cannot use your three (3) votes on the same song because of numerical disadvantages. The second award which will be given out is the Media Award which will see several members of published and online media, including radio broadcasters join forces in selecting the best five (5) entries and the worst two (2) entries. Their scores will be accumulated for the vertification of a final result.

The third award, the most prestigious is the Critics Award, which will see to the voting of five (5) professional individuals from the international music industry. John Scott, Sharon Vaughn, Martin Isherwood, Lina Eriksson and Greig Watts have been commissioned to review the competing entries, mark them out of ten (10) and published as a percentage online and finally to vote in Eurovision format and send in their personal scores. The chosen individuals all have multitudes of experience in the industr with John Scott working with the likes of Nicole Scherzinger and Little Mix; Lina Eriksson co-writing for the Melodifestivalen on a consistent basis; Martin Isherwood being one of the Headmasters at the Liverpool Istitute for Performing Arts; Sharon Vaughn co-writing for Delta Goodrem, Agnes, The Wanted and Jedward and Greig Watts who in turn is an accomplished songwriter/producer and has worked with The Overtones, Natalia and Kate Ryan amongst others.

Basically, what we're planning is to give out the escflashmalta.com awards presented by ONE Radio 92.7 FM on both radio and television, with Clint Bajada; current Head of ONE Radio offering to appear on his programme and Alfred Zammit; host of Kalamita also agreeing to the giving out of awards on his respective afternoon show. The winning artists will get the opportunity for short interviews on both television and radio as the track gets more exposure. All of the awards will kickstart with the revelation of the full versions of the songs competing in next years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Julie Zahra, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest, is currently preparing for the release of her debut collection, an extended play entitled No Loving which includes seven (7) cool alternative tracks, which will definitely put the listener in a relaxing mood. Musical Identity UK will be supporting the digital international release, in hope of finding success in Malta and abroad, including the United Kingdom where Julie is currently based. The whole project was composed and produced by Owen Caruana at Musical Identity UK studio and then mastered at the legendary Abbey Road studios where some of the greatest musical magic was created.

It is somewhat weird to denot this debut collection as an extended play noting that the least number of tracks seen in a studio album were ten (10), noting that therefore, No Loving was just three (3) shy. Nevertheless, it is encouraging to see that neither the producer nor the female vocalist pushed for the emergence of a studio album. The release will be available for puchase on iTunes, Media.net, at&t, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon, Rhapsody, Zvooq, Nokia Music, Basepoint Media, emusic, Sony Entertainment Network, 7digital, and Juke. The team has selected Take Me Away as a promotional radio single, one which has already captured the attention of escflashmalta.com contributor, Toni Sant. Julie Zahra has earned enough recognition to be nominated in his listeners' poll, which we as a portal will also be supporting. Below, we have posted a forty-second preview of the song, an exclusive snippet, the first to publish the track online. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

In 2011, Kelly Schembri was one of the finalists at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song Love Me Like Your Money composed by Erik Rydmark and Sven Lundholm to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg. Despite not finding success, finishing at the bottom of the scoreboard with no points from either the jury or the public alongside Jessica Muscat's entry Down Down Down which she co-wrote with Philip Vella. Kelly did give the competition another go the following year but failed to get through the second phase with her entry All Eyes on Me.

Kelly has flown back to the United Kingdom but comes to Malta periodically, especially for the simple reason that she gigs both locally and abroad with both nations considered to be homes for the young performer. With her girl group Monroe who were well received during the Malta Music Awards last year and will be hoping to make more impact on local radio stations with their latest track We Will Rise co-written with Katie Jones and Katy Heffernan Smith. In an exclusive announcement, Kelly revealed that she did not submit any material towards the 2014 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, considering that she is busy working on original material with the girl group. One of the innovations that the European Broadcasting Union is putting forward is that the points of each of the participating countries will be read by an individual on the actual stage of the event, set for the 30th November 2013.

Maxine Pace, vocally coached by Gillian Attard and Joshua Alamu has recently been making waves within the local music scene with her debut single Fed Up written by Ramzi making Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay. In a bold, yet surprising move, the editorial team of escflashmalta.com has been informed that the artist formerly known as Wayne Micallef has decided to adopt his second birth name as part of a new identity and will now therefore be known as Wayne William. Throughout the past couple of months, the male vocalist has been busy settling into his new life as a married man but has always kept his music close to heart.

This re-branding exercise comes in the wake of the announcement by the Public Broadcasting Services that they received a total of 210 submissions for the upcoming edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. It is expected that a shortlist of songs will be made public on the official website of Television Malta next week with the two week deadline nearing it’s time-frame. The results are then expected in the days leading up to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the end of November in sight.

Wayne William was last a part of the elite competition in 2012 with his entry Time finishing in eleventh place, one of the most under-rated entries of all time. The male vocalist confirmed to this portal that he did submit an entry for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the hope of qualification once more. The Start co-written by Elton Zarb, Matt Mercieca, Gillian Attard as well as vocalist Gaia Cauchi will be representing Malta at this years' edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place in Kiev, Ukraine. Close sources to escflashmalta.com have just told us that the young female vocalist will be taking to the stage on her own in a white dress, in order to alleviate her image on that puzzled stage, which the European Broadcasting Union and the Ukrainian broadcaster have already presented to the general public.

Malta is returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest following an absence of two years. Gaia Cauchi was internally selected by the Public Broadcasting Services after being the recipient of the International Achievement Award during the Malta Music Awards held earlier this year. The Start, which was written specifically for the young vocalist is one of the favourites to triumph in the twelve (12) song competition alongside Double Me which will represent The Netherlands, and Mechtay which will represent Russia respectively. escflashmalta.com will be covering the event live on the 30th November 2013 alongside Sophie, former Junior Eurovision Song Contest representative. In the past two years, the list of twenty-four (24) semi-finalists competing within the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has included the name, Danica Muscat. For all those who have been following the illustrious career of the teenage performer, they would realise that she has had both local and foreign success, having also been part of the Canale 5 talent show, Io Canto. In an exclusive announcement, we are at liberty to reveal that Danica Muscat will not be submitting any songs for next years' edition of the showcase citing a number of other projects in the pipeline which are keeping her grounded.

Danica's last appearance within the local music scene was back within the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza where her entry L-Ewlieni composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss rounded out a hat-trick of top ten results within the competition. At this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, she had made it through with the song Fantasy composed by Paul Abela to the lyrics of Julian Farrugia but did not get beyond the semi-final whilst the year before, she had presented the magnificient 7 Days written by Philip Vella, sailing into the final. It is with deep regret to know that such a young, versatile performer will not be entering next years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com over the next couple of days as we reveal names of artists who submit and did not submit for the major showcase.

Fabrizio Faniello, winner of this years’ edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the track Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace has been a regular within the local music industry following his comeback back at the 2011 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song No Surrender written by Johan Stentorp and Johan Bejerholm. escflashmalta.com is a position to confirm that Fabrizio Faniello is hoping for a return to Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark.

This does not really come as a surprise having already been there back in the 2001 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Another Summer Night composed by Paul Abela to the lyrics of Georgina Abela. It is important to note that the last time that Fabrizio was part of the line-up was back in 2012 when his entry I Will Fight For You (Papa’s Song) finishing in sixth place, failing to get past the second eliminatory phase for the very first time in years. It is no secret that the male vocalist and two time former Eurovision Song Contest representative is currently working on a brand new studio album which is set for release throughout 2014. Stay tuned to this portal for more news as it becomes available.

Minik, an upcoming singer/songwriter whose efforts were recognised during this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, where he occupied the first four placings as a songwriter, plans to continue his success at next years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Speaking to escflashmalta.com, he confirmed that he plans to submit entries both as a singer and as a songwriter working with some of the most esteemed names in the local music industry.

Whilst success has been ever so present for Minik as a songwriter, it seems that he is more suited to the creative process with his only success in performing coming during the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest back in 2011 with a track entitled Let's Party which also featured Siconix. Minik had the opportunity to be on the stage of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year as part of team of backing vocalists which accompanied Kevin Borg during his runner-up finish with the track Needing You co-written by Thoas Thornholm, Simon Gribbe, Dan Attlerud and Michael Clauss.

Also confirming submission to this portal is Ina Robinich, wife of Dominic Cini. In 2004, she went onto win one of the most esteemed competitions in the local music industry, L-Għanja tal-Poplu competition with the song Wellidni composed by Minik to the lyrics of Deo Grech. Therefore, escflashmalta.com has been pleased to confirm the submission of Ina Robinich, Minik, Eleanor Cassar, Richard Edwards, Kaya, Tiziana Calleja, Josef Tabone, Neville, Gloriana and Janvil whilst Nadine Axisa, Klinsmann and Melanie Zammit will opt out of the selection process. Stay tuned for more names in the coming days as the race heats up!
