'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Ludwig Galea, a male singer/songwriter, who gained notoriety for winning the 2004 edition of the Malta Song for Europe with "On Again .. Off Again" in a duet with Julie Zahra. Prior to that, they he had also competed both with the aforementioned female vocalist and as a soloist in L-Għanja tal-Poplu, the International Festival of Maltese Song, the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as well as another edition of the national selection which sought to select Malta's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Since then, Ludwig became one of the nations' most sought performers, performing in concerts both nationally and internationally, and also becoming a resident singer on several shows such as "Sas-Sitta" and "Sibt Familja", and most recently "Ħadd Għalik". At the moment, he is also a vocal coach, responsible for upcoming talent such as Deborah C, Raquel Galdes, and Marie Claire Attard Bason.

The second guest of the evening is, Fiona Cauchi, a female singer/songwriter who has done her bit on the festival circuit, earning the veteran accolade for being a six-time participant in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, her most recent endeavour finishing in 3rd place, having performed "Before You Walk Away" with the group Q back in 2009. She also made it through to the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, and the International Festival of Maltese Song on several occasions.

The third and final guest who will be accompanying Deo Grech this evening is Michela Dalli, a singer, and an actress with recurring roles in leading television dramas "Ħbieb u Għedewwa" and "D.R.E.A.M.S". Apart from reaching the final stages of the Talent Żagħżugħ at the 2011 Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, Michela made the transition to the senior stage late last year with the song "Ġrajjiet" written by Dominic Cini and Stephen Baldacchino. Her most recent endeavour though was L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2015 with the song "Charlie' L-Artist" written by Andrew Zahra and Rita Pace.

Apart from the established names, it seems that the line-ups of established groups such as Trilogy and Monroe have both been altered for the upcoming edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with Ludwig Galea replacing Daniel Debono in the former, and Nadia Vella becoming a new member of the latter, joining former Malta Eurovision Song Contest finalist; Kelly Schembri.

Other names which have caught our eye in the list are surely those of; Karen DeBattista, winner of this year’s edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu; Kurt Cassar, winner of the Best New Talent at this year’s edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza; Annabelle Vella, backing vocalist to Malta’s entry at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2008 and a group of nuns, who have most likely been inspired by the recent phenomenon on The Voice of Italy.

Everyone is somewhat gasping about the non-inclusion of Ira Losco in the first shortlist with the general feeling around the industry being that the Public Broadcasting Services may go ahead and offer a wildcard as is stated in the rules and regulations. This will be made public in a week’s time as Peppi Azzopardi and his dedicated team at WE Media reveal the chosen acts. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

escflashmalta.com has been granted permission to speak to the local artists competing within this years' edition of the International Festival of Maltese Song, fourteen in total. Apart from speaking to them about their careers thus far, it is pivotal to denote that we have focused on their participation within this competition in particular and their stance on Maltese being passed onto future generations through the medium of song. The order in which these interviews are being presented does not reflect the running order of the competition which is yet to be determined. Fiona is the third artist and she will performing the song Għadek Tgħix composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Mark Amaira.

Fiona, you are one of the artists who has a rich history when it comes to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, having managed to make it through to the final stages of the competition on several occasions, the last of which was back in 2009 as part of the group Q whose entry Before You Walk Away composed by Paul Giordimaina to the lyrics of Fleur Balzan. Each experience speaks volumes and of a different time within your career but how has the competition helped you grow as an artist?

As an artist, competition helps you develop that which by yourself you might not be able to attain.....it gives you experience, puts you on the same podium as the others and makes you face many challenges.  Nowadays I do not compete in a festival anymore but am more inclined to participate in a festival and produce each performance to a higher degree of perfection.

In 2011, you participated within the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the song Malta Ġrajjietha, a duet with Nadine Axisa composed by Chan Vella with lyrics by Alexia Schembri. It reminded people of the stunning vocals that you had both attributed to the song Words of Love composed by Paul Giordimaina to the lyrics of Fleur Balzan at the 2005 Malta Song for Europe. How does it feel to be back in a competition with the last having been around two years ago?

It feels like I am back on stage with my friends.  It is indeed no competition for me but rather another occasion where I put my vocal prowess in a showcase.

In this years’ edition of the International Festival of Maltese Song, you are presenting an entry entitled Għadek Tgħix composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Mark Amaira. Would you care to explain to our readers what the lyrics speak about what genre the song encompasses?

The song is a modern ballad, I daresay with an Italian twinge in it.  Its strongest element is the theme, which was cleverly penned by Mark when he saw me once on TV discussing with a woman who left a strong mark in my life.  The song speaks about me quoting her most famous words uttered by this woman, now deceased, but who is still very much alive in my heart and mind.  I will be wringing my heart out for sure on the night.....this is a song whose theme, of course, is very dear to me.

In recent months, there have been a lot of comments with regards to the progession that the local music industry has made in these past couple of years with several new artists finding their way into recording studios and releasing successful material both in Malta and abroad. What is your take on this matter and should we expect any new material in English from Fiona in the coming months, possibly even for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014?

I would most definitely not spill any beans on forthcoming projects right now :) let’s say I would only comment that I find this upward surge in the local music industry delighting and encouraging :)

As a music competition, the International Festival of Maltese Song was the first to promote the national language through the medium of music, eventually followed by L-Għanja tal-Poplu and Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. With the Public Broadcasting Services supporting the event, it makes it only second to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Do you believe that there’s a place for this competition within the local music industry and do you support it’s continuation in the years to come?

I love my language, I believe in it and I adore singing in it, particularly to foreign people who I am proud to say highly appreciate our native language. For this reason I fully support this festival and do hope that there will be place for it still in future.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

What should I say......but a massive THANK YOU for all the support and interest you shower us with throughout the year.....I’m really grateful for the love!!!

Malta: Audience in Awe of Majestic Male Duet

Rockestra, an event in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, has always been billed as 'not to be missed' and with that slogan managed to attract it's largest crowd yet. Around twelve thousand (12,000) people flocked to the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali in order to witness some of the best talent that the local music scene has to offer along with the musical accompaniment of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra led by Maestro Sigmund Mifsud as well as four female backing vocalists; Angela Spiteri, Jackie Pace Delicata, Anna Azzopardi and Louisa Frendo Wirth. With several eurostars in attendance, it was quite difficult to select the strongest performance of the evening but we did manage to come to a conclusion that the evening belonged to male vocalists; Ludwig Galea and Chris Grech.

Ludwig Galea, a former representative for Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004 was joined by Chris Grech, a finalist in this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in an astonishing version of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The audience was in awe of their vocal capabilities, and showed their appreciation by clapping, and singing throughout the whole performance. The event was star studded and two of the closing acts who drew the most attention and came possibly a joint second in terms of performance were none other than Ira Losco and Kevin Borg. The pop/rock princess took to the stage in a regal robe and a crown in order to perform another hit song by the group Queen, that being Radio Gaga. The first runner-up at this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Kevin performed Livin' on a Prayer which many remembered him performing during Idol in Sweden. The public were so enthralled by the performances that they ended up clapping in sync, something that rarely happens in public events.

Whilst those three artists managed to bring the house down, it is unfair not to mention artists such as Lawrence Gray, Claudia Faniello and Raquela whose vocal capabilities were stretched to the maximum especially with regards to the latter. Raquela, a participant within the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, 2011 and 2013 showed the public that she has a range beyond compare in a lyric-less song where harmonisation was key before returning for a duet version of the song Hallelujah alongside Sandrina. The concert was held under the distinguished patronage of The President of Malta and Mrs Abela and is supported by Parliamentary Secretariat for Culture and Local Government, Good Causes Fund, Malta Tourism Authority, Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, HSBC Bank, Banif Bank, Bank of Valletta, Vodafone, Tumas Group and Hard Rock Café. The Public Broadcasting Services are highlighting every inch of detail to make sure that this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is even better than the past two years in which the current administration decided to revamp the process by virtue of bringing in a more professional setup. Guests have always been an intriguing element of the showcase and there are rumours floating about with regards to who will ultimately becoming a part of the show but the focus here is with the participants themselves noting that the twenty four semi-finals will be having a number of additional individuals in the wings, taking care of vocal roles within the respective tracks. We have been in touch with a number of performers and their respective managements and learned some intriguing names will ultimately be seen despite not entering the semi-final stage of this years' competition. escflashmalta.com is exclusively bringing you a list of the names unveiled.

Kicking off things with the respective announcements was none other than Davinia who will be closing the semi-final at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with her entry Betrayed composed by Elton Zarb and penned by Muxu. She will be joined on stage by three backing vocalists which include; Rachael Tedesco Triccas and Jade Cini from the hit series D.R.E.A.M.S who will also be opening the showcase as well as former Junior Eurovision Song Contest representative; Nicole Azzopardi who is seemingly eyeing a possible entry in the next couple of years. The second performer is none other than Danica Muscat who will be performing the song Fantasy composed by Paul Abela and penned by Joe Julian Farrugia and will be joined by a fleet of people which feature Claire Mercieca, Chrissy Warrington, Jody Magri, as well as former Malta Eurovision Song Contest finalists; Dario Mifsud Bonnici and Benjamin Darmanin.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq5sBvjedr4

It was revealed yesterday that a request had also been made by Kevin Borg to have former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Glen Vella join the backing vocalists but due to his recent participation, this was not accepted and thus Glen will be taking care of a team of unknown backing vocalists which is rumoured to have several members of the Animae Gospel Choir which Glen and Pamela created a couple of years back. In an exclusive announcement, we are proud to reveal that former Malta Song for Europe finalist; Fiona Cauchi will be present within the team of Claudia Faniello who will be presenting the track When It's Time co-written between the performer and Errol Sammut, lead vocalist of Airport Impressions. The full team of this entry will be unveiled in due course on her Official Facebook Page. In a revelation made today on social networking website; Facebook it seems that Dorothy Bezzina of the song Starting from the End written by Magnus Kaxe and Gerard James Borg will be joined by upcoming artist; Martina Farrugia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zIh0gcPh8A

Two of the most intriguing performers in this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest are definitely Chris Grech with the track Never Walk Away co-written by Matthew James Borg, Peter Borg and David Cassar Torreggiani and Melanie Zammit with the song Loverdose co-written between Maria & Niclas Lundin and Gerard James Borg. They have both spoken to us and told us of the people that will be joining them on stage with the male artist bringing about one of his composers; Matthew James Borg of Red Electrick fame on stage alongside the upcoming Cheryl Balzan with the female on the other hand bringing two newcomers in the vein of Ann Gauci and Gabriella Azzopardi alongside Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and Malta Hit Song Contest finalist; Talitha Dimech.
