KKI 2012: A Stunning Spectacle Tonight

Mike Spiteri, Lawrence Gray, Amber, Annabelle Debono, Miriam Christine, Ira Losco, Tarcisio Barbara, Claudette Buttigieg and Kaya could all note to have at least one thing in common and that is being winners of the elite Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which has been organized by Media.Link Communications for a numerous number of years, noting that this years' edition will be the twenty-first in total and fifteenth consecutive one as a matter of fact. The committee behind the competition led by Mark Azzopardi and including members of the escflashmalta.com editorial team have worked hard to include a number of innovations in the past two years noting the beginning of a seating area which would definitely keep the audience at bay as well as the official preview videos for each track to help aid in terms of promotion. There is stiff competition this evening, featuring twenty acts that will be leading the way in the Established Category and another four acts who will compete in the Teenage Category as revealed last week on Indifest as shown on NET Television.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will be hosted on The Granaries in Floriana by Christine Haber and Ronald Briffa and will be featuring guest performances by Mike Spiteri who returns as last years' winner as well as Kurt Calleja and his band who represented Malta in this years' Eurovision Song Contest albeit never managing to make it through to the final stage of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. In the meantime, it has to be noted that there will be a number of awards that will be given out this evening including the online voting which has been ongoing through mychoice.pn, the tele-voting through the clips which have been put online and on NET Television throughout the summer and also the jury voting as chosen by Media.Link Communications. The latter two will be important for both categories with a separate award for the Established Category for each and a combined vote for the Teenage Category which will feature 60% Jury and 40% Tele-Voting. escflashmalta.com would like to wish everyone the best of luck and invite the people to attend or tune into NET Television at 20:30 CET to watch the proceedings unravel live.

KKI 2012: Ninth Programme of Indifest Tonight

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza has been highly regarded as one of the leading competitions in the local music industry throughout the years and this is due to the fact that it proudly promotes the Maltese language as one of the finest foundations of a whole identity. In fact, in this present day and age, it remains as only one of two showcases alongside the Għanja tal-Poplu which have such a clear tradition of original tracks in the Maltese language. The interest remains extremely high and the turn out in terms of submissions has always been maintained with the quality improving drastically in the past couple of years noting the inclusion of extremely professional judges who have sought to select the best possible tracks to represent the musical mood of the present generation whilst keeping in tact with professional prowess. In the past, there have been a multitude of well known names to finish at the top of the competition with acts such as Claudette Pace, Claudia Faniello, Eleanor Cassar, Mike Spiteri, Miriam Christine, Amber, Lawrence Gray, Ira Losco, Kaya and Annabelle Debono triumphing in the end. The committee behind the competition is led by leading television host Mark Azzopardi who is also acting as producer of the flagship programme Indifest which airs every Tuesday night hosted by Christine Haber and Ronald Briffa with special interviews done by James Cassar.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will be hosted for the twenty-first time this year actually and features a host of new, upcoming talent, especially individuals who were part of the teenage category just a couple of years back, rightfully earning their place in the local music industry in recent months. Apart from meeting four (4) people each week, two (2) from the Established Category and two (2) from the Teenage Category, there are also a number of weekly special guests. Last weeks' edition of the programme featured none other than Natasha and Charlene, who were the winners of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza way back in 2004 with the track L-Arka Tal-Libertà as well as in 2008 with the group Is-Sitta as they performed the song Flimkien Nistgħu Nirnexxu. Joining them on the show at a later stage was also Nadine Axisa who was also a winner of the competition in 2003 alongside Roger Tirazona with the track Inħarsu 'l Quddiem.

This years' programme is being produced by none other than Media.Link Communications and thus NET Television but the individuals concerned are Lisa Libreri as well as Mark Azzopardi, who as mentioned above is also the chairman of the committee behind the competition. The decision to have him on a dual role is one of the best ones that has ever been taken and this is because the competition is best promoted in this manner. The first act to take to this stage this evening during Indifest will be none other than Francesca Sciberras who will be performing the track Rebbiħin composed by Miriam Christine and penned by Celestina Sciberras with the second guests on the show being none other than the only trio in this years' competition featuring Neville, Ivan and Claire with the track Mhux L-Ewwel Darba composed by Augusto Cardinali and penned by Giovann Attard. As always, those competing in the Established Category will be promoting their track but will be performing playback

In the meantime, there is also a performance from the teenage category and that will be quite important so to speak due to the fact that the performance will be assessed by a panel of appointed judges in the coming weeks. This will be the final week in which entries from this category will be presented actually noting that next week will mark the announcement of the three (3) finalists, those who will be performing in front of a seated crowd at the Granaries in Floriana. Those who will be taking to the studios to perform this week will be none other than Antonella Rapa who will be singing the track X'Qaltli L-Arzella composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and penned by Joe Friggieri as well as Maria & Justine who will perform the track Ħbieb ta' Veru composed by Kaya and penned by Christopher Azzopardi. It is to be noted that despite the fact that tele-voting plays a very important role in this latter category, this year, there has been a reduction in the respective percentage owing to the final outcome with just 40% attributed leaving the other 60% to the jury as already mentioned above. The idea is to make sure that the people who make it through to the final stage of the competition ultimately deserve to be there.

Last week, there was also supposed to be the performance by Corinne Caruana but she had to pull out due to being ill unfortunately with rescheduling also taking place noting that she will be appearing in the programme next week in order to promote her track Dan Mhux Tmiem. Nevertheless, there will be a guest for this weeks' programme as has been the case in previous weeks and this time round it will be none other than Klinsmann, a two time participant in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza having finished in third place back in 2007 as well as winning the public award with the track KC1FM whilst taking part also last year with the track Ħajjitna most likely finishing in second place in the tele-voting portion of the competition having been in the position for a very long time. Make sure to tune into NET Television tonight at 20:30 CET to watch another filled programme of Indifest.

Throughout the years, there has been a lot of talk on solo artists to join forces and create what is known as the dream team with a powerful backing track aided by sublime harmonies and ultimately a performance which would impress the judges but never could one have thought of the massive possibilities that such an idea would create. When it comes to the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, as a leading competition organized in Maltese on behalf of Media.Link Communications, it is to be noted that there have been a number of winners from a group and also as a duet but never as a trio which the next act is proving itself to be actually featuring Ivan DeBattista, Claire Caruana and Neville Refalo. The track that they will be performing is entitled Mhux L-Ewwel Darba and it is composed by none other than Augusto Cardinali and penned by Giovann Attard, another team who are rarely seen not together in the mus industry. The translation of the track would ultimately say Not The First Time. All of the artists and their respective entries are receiving a lot of exposure including on NET Television and through viral website, YouTube following an official video recorded for all respective entries, a decision taken up by Media.Link Communications at the board of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. In the meantime, escflashmalta.com is also giving their readers an insight into the tracks of this years' competition.

The last track to be analyzed in this series dealt with romance and then again, it has become one of the most common subjects in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza in the past couple of years noting that they have managed to achieve some successful results alongside ones of national interest. Nevertheless, the song brought forward this time round could not be any different noting that the focus of the song is the individual and the life he has to endure so to speak. A human being has to show his true colours and fight for what he believes in true but then again before doing just that, he has to find himself and a place in the world and that is exactly what Neville, Claire and Ivan are singing about. They act out most of the track giving it an extremely dramatic feel which somewhat complies perfectly with the music. Looking at the songwriters behind this track, one would notice that the composer is Augusto Cardinali whose first appearances in the music scene were a comedic singer having worked with the likes of Joe Demicoli amongst others but in these past couple of years, he has focused on writing songs and was a second runner-up with the track X'Inhu L-Mewġ performed by the female in this group actually, Claire Caruana but he is known to write a number of tracks for specific artists time and time again.

The author is Giovann Attard who has consistently worked with Augusto Cardinali over the years but then again, his last success in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza last year came with composer Dominic Cini for the song Skont Id-Daqqa Iż-Żifna performed by Albertine u l-Qamħa. This time round, he hopes to seek the success of what he had achieved in 2008 with Claire Caruana as mentioned above. In the meantime, the performers of the song truly deserve a round of applause for the accolades they bring in. Starting off with Ivan DeBattista who in the past couple of months has gained popularity as an actor on leading television series Salib It-Toroq but then again has also impressed in music having been in the finals of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as a soloist in 2008 with the song Tond Jibqa' Tond composed by Augusto Cardinali and penned by Giovann Attard and also wrote the song Tar Iż-Żmien by Maria Elena & Lara Tanti Gregoraċi in the Teenage Talent section of 2009, reaching third place. Claire Caruana, a leading mezzo soprano in the local music scene has always managed to impress with her beautiful voice, making the finals of the competition as a soloist on two occasions and in a trio on another two occasions all with the same songwriters and then again, all rather high finishes as well. The last name is that of Neville Refalo who has made it to the finals of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza for the past two consecutive years whilst also making the final of the Malta Song for Europe back in 2005 amongst others. You can see the official video of the song just below and stay tuned to escflashmalta.com as well as the page of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza for more updates in the coming days.
