Mużika Mod Ieħor, a blog with a critical eye on the several releases in the local music scene was founded several years ago by Dr Toni Sant, an individual who has managed to slide in and out of the scene through various methods, having been part of the board that used to organise the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in the past as well as a disc jockey on multiple radio stations. At the end of the year, an awards system is put in motion in order to bestow a couple of honours upon some artists who might have either been overlooked or who had still garnered popularity throughout the year.

The project is divided into five categories; TOP ALBUM, TOP SINGLE/EP, TOP VIDEO, TOP ONLINE RELEASE and TOP OVERSEAS RELEASE, in a clear bid to make sure that no one is left out of the running in the several awards. Voting could take place through one’s personal account through Facebook on the official website, and then also follow the standings which are updated on an hourly basis. Artists from the Eurovision Song Contest, including none other than; Chris & Moira (1994), Ira Losco (2002) and Gianluca Bezzina (2013) are all nominated.

Malta's return to the Eurovision Song Contest back in the nineties prompted some of the leading artists in the local music scene to put their name forward with the hope of honouring their nation and pushing their international career forward. Jon Lukas Woodenman was already a successful artist abroad when he participated in the 1993 edition of the Malta Song for Europe. Love We Share was the name of the song he presented and performed in a duet with Marita. It finished in second place just behind This Time performed by William Mangion which reached a top ten result during the competition which took place in Millstreet, Ireland.

Jon Lukas Woodenman is one of three artists who have charted in the United Kingdom, the other two being none other than Joseph Calleja who is a leading figure in the classical world and Gianluca who represented Malta at this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The renowned male artist has just released his latest single entitled Bad News which has been steadily receiving airplay on the radio, achieving number #17 in the PRS Charts which reflect the amount of airplay on all of the local radio stations. The song which is somewhat current and fresh could very much be successful internationally and it is good to see that the Jon is making great music to this day. His last foray into the Malta Eurosong was back in 2010 as a songwriter with the track One 4 You performed by Ryan and featuring Duminka. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.
