SHSC 2014: Triumphant Domenique in First Victory

The 5th edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, hosted by Deo Grech & Natius Farrugia, at The Dome Theatre within the Seabank Hotel, was truly a memorable night, a triumphant journey. 18 acts, carefully chosen by a select panel of professional judges, took to the main stage to perform their entry, having received ample promotion throughout the summer season, courtesy of F Living, Music News, and RTK Radio.

Lyndsay Pace, Mireille Bonello, Marisa D'Amato, Charlene Azzopardi, Daniel Falzon Mallia, George Cremona and Heathcliffe Balzan were solely responsible for the result last night, picking Domenique and her entry "Back To...", composed by Mark Scicluna to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss in first place. Nevertheless, with around 10 points separating the top three, one has to commend the first runner-up, "My Hero" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Keith Zammit with vocals provided by Anna Azzopardi as well as the second runner-up, "Pretend" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Doris Chetcuti.

On the other hand, "Overboard", the only duet competing in this year's edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, featuring Audrey Marie & Rita Pace were chosen as winners of the tele-voting and as a result, also granted the opportunity to compete in next year's edition fo the Summer Hit Song Contest, a revelation made by Deo Grech & Karl Bonaci during the course of the evening. Remember, the competition will be broadcast on F Living on Saturday 27th September at 20:30 CET. We urge you to stay tuned to even through Facebook & Twitter as we bring you the latest news from the local music scene.

Relikc, in the spotlight once more, following their revival from the obscure confines of darkness, albeit with a new line-up featuring; Keith Zammit, Luke Grech, Ivan Giordano, Lesnich Vassallo and Joseph Axiak. Ska, remiscent and progressive of the original material of the five piece band seems to be at the epi-centre on their return. It is fun and cheeky, with the rise dose of sparkle that is required.

Prime Time is the name chosen for the comeback which in turn has been recorded, mixed, mastered and engineered by David Vella at Temple Studios. The lyric video, accompanying the release of the song, is also extremely original and deserves recognition having been created by band members; Ivan Giordano and Joseph Axiak. For more information about Relikc along with their upcoming performances, visit their Official Page on Facebook. In the meantime, we urge you to stay tuned to even on Facebook and Twitter.

Malta: Rapturous Roar for #LionKink

#Lionkink is an upcoming production being organised by the Students Council within the University of Malta with the main aim being to serve the purpose that despite being the highest form of Educational Institution, individuals have the right to express themselves through the art of performance. The KSU Students' Fest has become an annual tradition for students at the University of Malta and beyond and this time round, it seems that the expectations are running high especially by tackling one of the most famous movie musicals created by Disney, known as The Lion King. The rewording of the title is vital to the modernisation of the show and the script will surely capture the attention of everyone present. is proud to support the project for the third year running and the editorial team had a chance to catch up with Andrea Attard, the Public Relations Officer of the Council who states that 'the cast, the crew, the whole team is such a talented group to work with. At KSU, we believe that everyone has to work together as a team in order to achieve a positive final result', going onto add that 'whether or not you've seen the musical version, #LionKink is a must see'. The show is organised with the uttermost quality and this is seen through late night rehearsals because after all this is 'an event made for the students, by the students'.

Indeed, we have been through the roles cast for this years' edition of the Students' Fest and we are pleased to reveal that amongst those performing, there will be; Keith Zammit from the recently defunct band, Relikc as well as Gianni Selvaggi from the group; Sky City. One other notable individual in the chorus is definitely Rachael Tedesco Triccas who backed Davinia Pace in this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in third place with Betrayed. #Lionkink will be staged between Friday 12th April and Sunday 14th April at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall within the University of Malta and tickets can be purchased here. Stay tuned to for more news in due course.

KKI 2012: Having a Look at 'Id F'Id'

The 2012 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is a reference of how much the competition has achieved through the years, noting that last year, the twentieth anniversary was celebrated with former winners including the likes of Ira Losco, Claudia Faniello, Mike Spiteri, Miriam Christine, Amber, Claudette Pace, Nadine Axisa, Roger Tirazona, Kaya, and Annabelle Debono. This time round, there has been a lot of talk with regards to the fact that most of the participants are somewhat young and therefore represent the upcoming generation of talent in the local music industry. Moving onto the fourth entry to be performed on the night of the competition, it is the track Id F'Id composed by Renato Briffa and penned by Keith Zammit with the vocals being provided by Simone Gauci who won the right to take part in this years' edition of the prestigious festival thanks to a wildcard offered to the television programme Passport 2 Indifest through the programme Sas-Sitta hosted by Spiteri Lucas Entertainment. It is pivotal to note that the success of the first edition has prompted a second competition with submissions having closed just a couple of days ago. This is one of the many changes that Media.Link Communications have introduced in 2012 in order to continue in promoting upcoming talent. With regards to promotion, it is also to be noted that official videos of each competing entry was shot and have been highly promoted through a series of analysis on in order to give people more of an insight.

The fourth track in the evening, noting that our series has catapulted through all of the entries backwards, sees an easy translation to the official song title, this being Hand In Hand. Throughout the years, the competition has gone onto promote a number of tracks which deal with the positivism of being a national in one's country as that is the best means of promotion. In fact, it has to be noted down that in this track, the lyrics delve into this particular individual who takes into account that everything has to be achieved in unison through hard work and people should join forces on each respective issue in order to deal with it better and make sure not to miss anything with more minds inclined to a particular subject. The lead performer on this track is Simone Gauci, a relatively new name to the local music industry and one of the youngest prodigies. What is quite intriguing with this artist is she brings about quite a different range managing to hit the lower notes and the early section of the higher notes with relative ease. Her sweet tone makes the lyrics sound better and overall, the quality that is emitted is somewhat impressive. She has been part of several choirs and in her sixth form experience was also part of the solo soiree amongst other things. Winning the Passport 2 Indifest competition was only the first in what seems a long line of successes that will come in the months and years to come.

Having a look at the songwriters behind this track is equivalently important because where Simone lacks in terms of experience, is brought about by them noting that Renato Briffa is one of the most notable names in the local music industry having won a large portion of awards in the foreign music scene including most recently the Universong in Canary Islands in 2010 and 2011 respectively writing the music for Come Fly With Me performed by Corazon as well as Love Was Made of Clay by Gloriana Arpa Belli, the daughter of 1972 Eurovision Song Contest representative, Helen Micallef. On the other hand, he has written tracks for the likes of Leontine and Anna Azzopardi, also making the semi-finals of last years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the retro track Unfaithful which was also penned by Keith Zammit, who has become his most trusted partner in lyrics in recent years. Nevertheless, the most recent success of the lyricist has come without the aid of Renato Briffa noting that last year, he finished in second place within the teenage category of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the track L-Istorja Tagħna composed by Dominic Cini and performed by Michela Dalli. Keith has also made it through to the finals of the Malta Eurosong on a couple of occasions including the track All I Need with the music of Andrew Zammit. Nevertheless, their collaboration will surely not go by unnoticed. You can listen to the track just below and keep on following for all of the latest news in the days, weeks and months to come.

Media.Link Communications are currently extremely busy getting things done for the 2012 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza noting their weekly promotion through the programme Indifest which is hosted by Ronald Briffa and Christine Haber, two names which are very much synonymous to the showcase in recent years. It comes to no surprise though that preparations for the 2013 edition have also been thought of in order to improve on what has been accomplished thus far this year noting the strong competition of twenty artists in the Established Category as well as those ten acts competing within the Teenage Category. For the very first time, in the latter, the jury will have the most pivotal say with the result of this phase and also the final being decided by 60% Jury and 40% tele-voting noting that the best package should finish out on top. Another innovation was the wildcard into the former category which was won by none other than Simone Gauci who was then given the song Id F'Id composed by Renato Briffa and penned by Keith Zammit.

In the final of the Passport 2 Indifest competition, Simone managed to beat none other than Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2009 finalist, Marie Claire Attard Bason who has been itching to make it through to the competition but is yet to manage that feat once more. Spiteri Lucas Entertainment alongside the committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza have decided that this years' wildcard spot somewhat worked in terms of system and therefore it will only grow in the years to come and hence it has been decided that it will continue in 2013 when the competition will be moving into it's twenty second edition. is always a proud supporter of the arts especially music and is represented by two members of the Editorial Board when it comes to the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. The rules clearly state that submissions have to be sent in by the 12th September 2012 so that the elimination process can begin. For the very first time, there will be no tele-voting either meaning that a 100% Professional Jury as decided by the Committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and Spiteri Lucas Entertainment will be put forward to make the respective selections. All of the rules and regulations can be obtained by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and it is to be noted that the expenses of the song regarding production, mixing and recording will all be dealt with by the team (composer/lyricist) who work on the song for the winning artist. Stay tuned ro for more news in the weeks to come.
