Exclusive: Full Results of the KKI 2012

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza has been well adapted not only to promote the best in local talent but also the language with the competition remaining the only particular background for Maltese, one of the main items which many can identify to be heritage. The pace of the festival went smoothly except for a small minor glitch during one of the latter entries which prompted an immediate restart and ultimately a great response from the audience. The Established Category featured performances from twenty acts in total with a variety of genres well represented whilst the Teenage Category features a total of four entries this time round because of a tie in third place in the second phase of competition which was televised through the programme Indifest as hosted by Ronald Briffa and Christine Haber who were also the comperes for the evening. In the end, the winners of each respective category were agreed upon by the jury panel made up of Mike Spiteri, Ludwig GaleaMandy Micallef Grimaud and Matthew Calleja

It is important to point out that the introduction of the mychoice.pn award was a welcome addition with the online voting racking in multitude of votes from all over the country whilst the tele-voting has always kept things on edge. The top three results were resoundingly met with applause especially as Domenique with the track Tama u Kuraġġ composed by Philip Vella and penned by Cher Vella was the first announced in third place, followed by Marilena Gauci and her song Bl-Ikbar Serjetà composed by Philip Vella and penned by Joe Chircop and then finally a content and surprised Deborah C with the anthemic Jekk Nużaw Moħħna penned by Joe Chircop to the music of Mark Spiteri Lucas. In the meantime, when it comes to the teenage category, the jury played a pivotal role in selecting the track Bil-Bnadar F'Idejna composed by Miriam Christine and penned by Joe Chircop therefore making Joe Chircop, one of the most decorated men in the competition alongside Mark Spiteri Lucas who together also went onto tele-voting with Deborah C and the aforementioned Jekk Nużaw Moħħna as well as the mychoice.pn award which went to Roseanne Cordina with the track Id-Demm ta' Raymond composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and penned by Paul Ellul. escflashmalta.com had the opportunity like in the past two years to speak to the winning artist and composer of the track, this year being none other than Deborah C and Mark Spiteri Lucas respectively. The Gozitan singer who is currently reading for a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Malta is extremely happy with the victory stating she indeed 'did not expect it' and ultimately adding that it was even more positive to note that the 'jury and the public agreed unanimously' on the track which they have worked hard to present. She thanked all of the people who supported her from Gozo and Malta as well as her entourage for making this a possibility. Speaking to the composer of the track, he told us that since 2001, he has managed to finish on top on 'five different occasions' making this his 'third victory in six years'. He notes that it was a combination of teamwork which saw to the fact to break records in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza making this the first entry 'to win both the public and jury vote within the same year'. The editorial board would like to congratulate all of the respective winners and better luck next time to all those who tried and did not succeed this time round.

KKI 2012: A Stunning Spectacle Tonight

Mike Spiteri, Lawrence Gray, Amber, Annabelle Debono, Miriam Christine, Ira Losco, Tarcisio Barbara, Claudette Buttigieg and Kaya could all note to have at least one thing in common and that is being winners of the elite Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which has been organized by Media.Link Communications for a numerous number of years, noting that this years' edition will be the twenty-first in total and fifteenth consecutive one as a matter of fact. The committee behind the competition led by Mark Azzopardi and including members of the escflashmalta.com editorial team have worked hard to include a number of innovations in the past two years noting the beginning of a seating area which would definitely keep the audience at bay as well as the official preview videos for each track to help aid in terms of promotion. There is stiff competition this evening, featuring twenty acts that will be leading the way in the Established Category and another four acts who will compete in the Teenage Category as revealed last week on Indifest as shown on NET Television.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will be hosted on The Granaries in Floriana by Christine Haber and Ronald Briffa and will be featuring guest performances by Mike Spiteri who returns as last years' winner as well as Kurt Calleja and his band who represented Malta in this years' Eurovision Song Contest albeit never managing to make it through to the final stage of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. The latter two will be important for both categories with a separate award for the Established Category for each and a combined vote for the Teenage Category which will feature 60% Jury and 40% Tele-Voting. escflashmalta.com would like to wish everyone the best of luck and invite the people to attend or tune into NET Television at 20:30 CET to watch the proceedings unravel live.

KKI 2012: Having a Look at 'Flimkien'

The editorial board of escflashmalta.com wanted to spice up things just a tad with regards to the feature that was taken on board and thus instead of working the way through the songs in their respective order as they will be performing later on during the day, they were presented starting from the last entry and indeed, the final one will actually be the first to perform. Whenever one does not succeed, then giving up is not the option even though it might sparkle at a certain outlook. There is a certain amount of luck which each individual can utilize without even knowing when the timing is right and this could be said for the next performer, Kristen Camilleri who will be performing the track Flimkien composed by Philip Vella and penned by Cher Vella. This was one of the three entries that eventually got through to the competition following the withdrawal of three of the qualified entries by Domenique and indeed, it has been an intriguing ride noting that this track features in the top five of the tele-voting portion of the competition, having done so from the early stages. This year, each track received the same amount of promotion through official videos as posted on YouTube and also reviews as published on escflashmalta.com daily for the past couple of weeks.

Teenagers have one of the most pivotal roles in the country and it is unequivocally important that their challenges in terms of goals for the future are met with great respect, dignity and praise at times with the shaping up of the future owed to them most of the time. The country will be dealing with stern challenges but then again, together, everything can be dealt with a relative pace and thus, one has to start acting as soon as possible to make sure that things get back to normal and ultimately succeed in continue creating a positive world which the people will continue living in. Kristen Camilleri is one of the newcomers to the local music scene noting that this years' Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is well adjusted including acts which have already garnered a name for themselves and others which are looking for that shining moment which would make or break their careers. Nevertheless, Kristen has already accomplished quite a lot having studied under classical soprano, Gillian Zammit and starring in shows such as Dr.Seuss - The Musical put on by Masquerade Theatre Arts School. In recent months, she was also the backing vocalist for three entries at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and she is set to star in the upcoming edition of D.R.E.A.M.S which will be airing every Wednesday night on Television Malta.

Philip Vella is the man behind the music in this particular entry providing the competition with a total of eight compositions this time round, with three lyricists in general, those being former winner Joe Chircop, his daughter Cher Vella and singer/songwriter Rita Pace. Philip won the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza back in 2009 breaking the flow that was being set up by Mark Spiteri Lucas who had won it in the two years before and ultimately paving the way for two victories of Ray Agius, therefore being the only one in the last five years to have managed to break the domination of the most successful composers of the competition. Philip is an accomplished performer as well having taken part in the competition in 1999 with the track San Seksek Pro Nobis and in 2001 with the tracks Ġens B'Identita and Kieku u Kien whilst writing the music and lyrics to many other songs. The lyricist in this track is his daughter Cher Vella with whom he penned another two tracks and with whom he also made it through to the finals of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with, earlier this year with Lawrence Gray as the lead vocal. Watch the official video below and stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

Miriam Christine, Annabelle Debono, Ira Losco, Amber, Mark Tonna, Claudette Pace, Eleanor Cassar, Lawrence Gray, Claudia Faniello and most recently Mike Spiteri all have something in common and that is, that they have all managed to overcome their respective obstacles to win the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, the most notable competition which promotes music in the Maltese language. Several of the individuals mentioned above were still up and coming when they managed to achieve the feat and therefore truth be told, the showcase helped them achieve the status and regard that they hold in present times. The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza first took place in 1983 but following four years, it had to be stopped in 1987 before making an even more successful return in 1997. Last year, Media.Link Communications appointed a brand new chairman, Mark Azzopardi who alongside his team including two members of the escflashmalta.com editorial board helped re-invent several aspects of the competition to make it more attractive both to the individuals concerned within the tracks and the audience watching. There has been a lot of exposure given to the acts in the past two years noting that this year, preview videos were shot for the very first time and could be seen through viral website, YouTube.

The 2012 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza features a host of talent noting that there are a number of newcomers as well as individuals who have been rightfully earning their place in the local music industry. Apart from meeting three (3) people each week, two (2) from the Established Category and one (1) from the Teenage Category, there are also a number of weekly special guests. The programme last week did not take place because of a national holiday so to speak but then again the week before, there were two special guests with a huge connection to the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza noting that Kaya (Priscilla Psaila) has finished as the runner-up twice and also win with the track Dan Hu L-Mument in 2007. On the other hand, the second guest was Janice Mangion who had an extremely positive year reaching third place in the last edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the song Eternità and then reaching the semi-final stage of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

For the seventh programme of Indifest, Mark Azzopardi, the Chairman of this years' committee for the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza returns as producer alongside Lisa Libreri who has taken up the role of co-producer in the past four weeks. The role of producer is quite important to make sure that the television programme Indifest reflects the aim of the competition itself. In the past couple of years, things have not been so much in sync at times but this time round, things are relatively different so to speak. The programme which is broadcast live every Tuesday night is presented by Ronald Briffa, this years' male host of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2012 and Christine Haber, multiple host of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. In this weeks' edition, it is imperative to note that the acts competing in the Established Category who will be making an appearance are none other than Marilena Gauci who will be performing the track Bl-Ikbar Serjetà composed by Philip Vella and penned by Joe Chircop as well as Kristen Camilleri who will sing the track Flimkien composed by Philip Vella and penned by Cher Vella.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is always looking to promote brand new talent and that is why the Teenage Category has always been promoted in the past couple of years. Week after week, there is a live performance by one of the ten competitors and frankly this is quite important due to the fact that 60% of the final vote will be based solely on this performance with members of the jury looking at the performances and marking the tracks as they please. This week, the turn goes to Natalya Galdes who will be performing the track Noli written by singer/songwriter Rita Paca. In the meantime, as always, there will be two guests and this week, Indifest will be meeting up with 1991 Eurovision Song Contest representative Georgina as well as multiple finalist and former second runner-up of the Malta Song for Europe and also first runner-up of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, Janvil. So tonight on NET Television at 20:30 CET, make sure to tune into another programme of Indifest.
