“My love for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has never been a secret, but I have decided to stay away for a second consecutive year, focusing on my career in the United States”, said Davinia to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com two weeks after the Public Broadcasting Services received submissions for the next edition of the national selection, slated to take place in January 2016.

In a rather meteoric rise to the top of the local music scene, Davinia emerged as a successful radio artist, with debut single “Bottled My Teardrops” and the follow-up “Sail Away” scaling the top of the charts on 89.7 Bay and receiving nationwide airplay.

She submit an entry into the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, “Betrayed”, composed by Elton Zarb to the lyrics of Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca, emerging as a dark horse during rehearsals, eventually managing a second runner-up finish. Davinia did not look back, and released a follow-up single during the summer months, “You Are My Home”, which was very well received, representing a slight change in direction from a music standpoint.

Work on another song for the competition begun, and despite entering as a favourite with “Brand New Day”, she finished at the bottom of the scoreboard with 7 points, 4 from the jury, and 3 from the tele-voting, despite receiving the ESCflashmalta People's Choice Award. Since then, Davinia has moved to the United States, worked on “Round & Round”, a summer single co-written with Nick Lopez, and more recently played at the historic Viper Room in Los Angeles, a venue which hosted a slew of legends, such as Cher, Guns N' Roses and Bruce Springsteen.

MESC 2016: Claudia Faniello Denies Rumours

"I decided not to go for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest this time around, focusing on myself and new material, as part of a larger collection", echoed Claudia Faniello to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com, amidst growing rumours that she was eyeing a comeback.

Claudia Faniello first emerged onto the local music scene with "High Alert", an original song which got through to the final stages of the Malta Song for Europe 2006 with the vocals of Olivia Lewis, who had to interpret another song, "Spare a Moment", having obtained more points. As a result, the renowned songwriter chose the younger of the Faniello siblings, and from then onwards, she has gone from strength to strength.

Finishing as the first runner-up in 2008 with "Caravaggio",  composed by Ray Agius with lyrics by Godwin Sant, and in 2012 with "Pure", composed by Philip Vella with lyrics by Gerard James Borg, Claudia has cemented her place as the most successful female artist in the national selection not to win the competition. Her last participation came in 2013, with "When It's Time", which the singer/songwriter penned to the music of Errol Sammut.

Since then, she has focused on developing her own genre, working on a further two singles; "One Fine Day" and "Miles Away", with a third one in tow. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

MESC 2016: Karen DeBattista Will Not Participate

"I would like to announce that I have not submitted any entries for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016, focusing on my studies above anything else", announced Karen DeBattista through her official social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

Emerging on the local music scene as a finalist in the Summer Hit Song Contest 2011, the young versatile female vocalist made headlines winning L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2014 with "Jien Ma Naħdimx", an original song composed by Mark Scicluna with lyrics by Rita Pace. She quickly anticipated the possibility of partaking in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and enlisted lyricist Emil Calleja Bayliss, and composer Jan Van Dijck to work on something different.

The result of this collaboration was "12, Baker Street", one of the songs which made it through to the final phase of the competition, eventually also making the iTunes chart. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

"I am not making any plans ... definitely not in 2016" are the words echoed by Gianluca Bezzina, in an exclusive statement to escflashmalta.com, the singing doctor whose meteoric rise to fame in the local music industry was a direct result of his participation in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with 'Tomorrow', an original song co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat.

Gianluca Bezzina, also the lead vocalist of Funk Initiative, whose debut album 'The Cartogrophers' landed in 2015 tried his luck at representing Malta for a second consecutive time earlier this year, when he joined his siblings in a super-group under the name, L-Aħwa. Their entry, 'Beautiful to Me', written by Erik Anjou did not set the scoreboard on fire, mustering up 10 points, to finish in 12th place.
