In recent years, two senior members of the editorial team at escflashmalta.com were part of the committee behind the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza but a stunning three year experience, they have called it a day resorting to the promotion of the competition in the best possible way. The readers of the site have spoken highly of the comments passed on by professional members enlisted to review tracks for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and the international showcase which just came to an end and thus it has been thought to introduce such a feature to a local competition.

There we are pleased to announce that all of the entries competing in this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will be reviewed by Chris and Moira. The renowned duo are best known in the local music scene for representing Malta at the 1994 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest held in The Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. They finished in fifth place, the only time that the country managed that position as they sang their hearts out to the beautiful More than Love which they co-wrote. Chris & Moira have never shied away from a challenge and as a matter of fact, their recent material is best encompassed through a visionary set of genres, ones which are very much appreciated by the general public.

Their latest single entitled Flight 170 has been played on 89.7 Bay where it also entered the local charts. In the meantime, it is important to denote that they gave a public performance during this years' semi-finals of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest as many were awaiting the results. We await NET Television to unveil the songs in due course, noting that preview videos are expected but we would like to welcome Chris & Moira on board and hope that you enjoy their constructive critism. Karen DeBattista, a nineteen year old performer from Mosta, one of the largest localities in the country has become the first finalist in this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. Whilst not being an entirely new face to the local music scene, it seems that she will be following in the footsteps of Simone Gauci who came out of nowhere during the previous year to win Passport 2 Indifest beating jury favourite Marie Claire Attard Bason. In an extraordinary turn-around, the professional jury put her in the first runner-up position finishing in the same slot for the second year running. It is worth noting that Marie Claire Attard Bason has already competed in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the song Ma Rridx Ninbidel composed by Sean Vella to the lyrics of Rita Pace in a first time bid within the local music scene.

Dak Li Għidtli Dakhinar, composed by Dominic Galea with lyrics by Joe Friggieri was the opening track of the competition with Karen DeBattista offering the viewers and the jury a much different rendition to what has become a true Nadine Axisa classic. On the other hand, Marie Claire Attard Bason followed with powerhouse vocals as she performed the song Intlaqt Mal-Mewġ composed by Mark Scicluna to the lyrics of Rita Pace. Once more, she was definitely not challenging Janice Mangion, the original performer, giving her own spin to the track but the arrangement did not really suit the track itself in my opinion and thus left the audience yearning more. Regulations for this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will be unveiled during the course of the week but nevertheless, songs for Karen DeBattista will be put aside and listened to individually. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about the local music scene.

KKI 2013: Juries to Select First Finalist

1964 by Annabelle Debono is one of the most iconic tracks to have ever won the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendendenza and later on today, she will be amongst a panel of judges selecting the first finalist for this years' edition of the local spectacle. She will be joined by former participants; Neville Refalo and Janvil whose expertise in field will definitely be a positive characteristic. The two finalists of the Passport 2 Indifest competition are none other than Marie Claire Attard Bason, a former Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza finalist and Karen DeBattista, a former finalist in the Malta Hit Song Contest.

Both have an outstanding resumè and both are relatively young but one will get the direct qualificiation, with the other one choosing whether to submit a track within a normal process. The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is one of the most prestigious singing competitions in the country with one of the reasons being that each of the submitted entries has to be original and in Maltese. Last year, Deborah C was crowned winner with the track Jekk Nużaw Moħħna composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas with lyrics by Joe Chircop whilst the Passport 2 Indifest winner, Simone Gauci finished in a mid-table position with her entry Id F'Id composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Keith Zammit whilst ranking within the top five when it came to tele-voting.

Passport 2 Indifest is a concept drawn up between the committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which featured two escflashmalta.com editorial board members up until last year as well Spiteri Lucas Entertainment, responsible for the programme Sas-Sitta on NET Television. Apart from the revelation of which performer will be gaining direct qualification into the final of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, next week, the programme will also be raising funds to help Puttinu Cares, an organization which supports families who have children suffering from cancer. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

Maltese as a language has been described as one of the most notorious identifiable elements and therefore, it does go to show that the music industry takes a liking to the use of the aforementioned method of speech in a number of competitions including L-Għanja tal-Poplu and the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. The focus is on the latter due to the large amount of submitted entries every year although it has to be noted that quantity does not really mean quality. Nevertheless, most of the winners have been merited their top ranking position especially when noting that the most notable performers to come out were none other than; Eleanor Cassar, Ira Losco, Claudia Faniello, Nadine Axisa, Roger Tirazona, Miriam Christine, Lawrence Gray, Amber, Mike Spiteri and Claudette Pace amongst others. Garnering entry into the competition is not easy and therefore, Spiteri Lucas Entertainment and the Committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza thought up the idea to promote a wildcard entry which would be granted through a performance competition on television show; Sas-Sitta which airs every Saturday afternoon on NET Television with Ray Attard and former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Debbie Scerri as hosts.

As a matter of fact, there was renewed interest in the competition following the fact that last years' winner; Simone Gauci spoke positive of the experience and the opportunity to perform on the stage of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. It would definitely be a coup to have a complete newcomer perform during the evening but nevertheless, the shortlist of semi-finalists in this years' Passport 2 Indifest includes two former finalists in the form of Marie Claire Attard Bason and Ana-Maria Grima whilst some others have also competed in the teenage portion of the competition including Cherise Attard, Mikaela Bajada and Dorcas Debono. Other artists who have made it through this time round have experienced performances in front of an audience with Karen DeBattista having been in the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest, Cynthia Attard performing in the pre-selection stage of the 2010 Malta Eurosong, Letizia Seychell and Nicola Marie Cutajar taking part in Don't Stop Me Now. The final act to make it through was Claudio Castelletti who most recently was a backing the Spiteri Lucas Entertainment show having been scouted last year during the same competition. Passport 2 Indifest continues to unravel as the jury hear the ten semi-finalists once more and decide, who the final four should comprise of. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it takes place.

One of the most prestigious competitions in the local music industry is surely the annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which does not only help promote upcoming talent but also does so within the Maltese language which is recognized as the national method of conversation in the country respectively. Throughout the years, winners of the competition have included the likes of Mike Spiteri, Miriam Christine, Claudette Pace, Claudia Faniello, Amber, Annabelle Debono and Eleanor Cassar, all of which have gone onto achieve various forms of success in other local and international competitions. In the meantime, as from this years' edition, one of the places in the Established Category was given to the winner of the Passport 2 Indifest competition organized by Spiteri Lucas Entertainment.

The initial winner was the upcoming performer; Simone Gauci who ended up performing the track Id F'Id composed by Renato Briffa and penned by Keith Zammit. The song was written especially with a female performer in mind and ultimately, it was performed exceptionally well on the stage of The Granaries in Floriana during the competition hosted by Ronald Briffa and Christine Haber. The result might not have been too positive but then again, the performer enjoyed the experience thoroughly. Following the success of the first edition, the committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza decided to work with Spiteri Lucas Entertainment for a second edition and in fact, there are seventeen (17) finalists, all of which are competing for that elite spot and hoping to ultimately become the winner of the 2013 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza.

Programme 1: Letizia Seychell & Marie Claire Attard Bason

Programme 2: Cynthia Attard & Mikaela Bajada

Programme 3: Ann Marie Ellul & Diandra Mifsud

Programme 4: Claudio Castelletti & Karen Debattista

Programme 5: Ana Maria Grima & Michela Dalli

Programme 6: Kurt Galea & Cherise Attard

Programme 7: Nicola Marie Cutajar & Raquel Dalli & Maria Cassar

Programme 8: Graziella Vella & Dorcas Debono

Most of the finalists have credentials to show for their respective appearances in this programme with some of the people above having been in some of the most prestigious competitions in the country including the same aforementioned Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as well as the Malta Eurosong competition in a particular case therefore, it also goes to show that talent is finding it somewhat difficult. This time round, Passport 2 Indifest has eliminated tele-voting completely and therefore will be resorting to a panel of judges which will most likely include a head judge as well as special weekly guest judges throughout. Stay tuned every Saturday to Sas-Sitta on NET Television to watch this competition unravel and unfold.

Several names are being touted as possible semi-finalists when the list for the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is revealed on the 30th November but then again, many have to note that the submissions date for the competition is at the end of this month and that is when the journey will officially start for the people who do intend to submit a song or a couple into the procedure. In the past couple of days, escflashmalta.com has learnt that acts such as Stefan Galea and Marilena Gauci will indeed be trying their luck but now it seems that up and coming faces including that of Franklin Calleja is also interested having just come forth from a resounding victory on the reality television music programme Don't Stop Me Now hosted by Eileen Montesin on NET Television and featuring Maestro Dominic Galea as well as former Eurovision Song Contest representative Moira Stafrace as judges.

The name of the respective performer had already been circulating a lot in recent days and weeks before a foreign intelligence unit came forward with the news that Franklin was indeed going to submit a track into the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2013 and therefore, the editorial board at escflashmalta.com spoke to the perform to get things clear and making sure that everything is published in the right manner. He confirmed his intentions of submitting a track into the competition and is working on something as we speak therefore, it will be quite intriguing to see what the young vocalist can indeed come up with noting that he has given sterling performances of a great songs. During the final of the programme, he also performed with Ludwig Galea, one half of the 2004 representative duo at the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Malta. The renowned artist is acting as a mentor to Franklin Calleja whose initial major experience came back during the Junior Eurosong competition a couple of years back. With stunning vocals and a good image to help promote him, Franklin is a definite shoe in to reach at least the semi-final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Several other names are being touted this year so stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon at it becomes available.
