Kaya (otherwise known as Priscilla Psaila), has recently been in touch with the editorial team at escflashmalta.com in order to reveal that her students; Amy, Rihana and Elisa finished in 2nd place with "Tre Bambole", an original song composed by the aforementioned Kaya, with lyrics by Christopher Azzopardi, and Shaian Debono finished in 1st place with "Nessun Dorma" at the 'Cantagiro Music Festival' in Italy, in which Malta was taking part in for the second consecutive year.

In the senior portion of the competition, Phylisienne Brincat finished in 2nd place, ahead of Graziella Vella in 3rd place, the latter also being a student of Kaya. Success is ingrained in music where Malta is concerned and a positive outlook is definitely on the cards as these young performers grow to make up the local music scene. Last but not least, Singer Stage Academy was awarded with a prize for presenting excellent talent during the competition. On behalf of the editorial team, we would like to congratulate the winners circle, and urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about such international events.

There are a number of young emerging artists on our islands but one who is slowly becoming a fixture to success is no other than Destiny Chukunyere. She represented Malta successfully in Italy in the SanRemo Junior after winning the local competition; she managed to triumph amongst even tougher competition abroad. Destiny is coached by IVA tutor Ms. Maria Abdilla who helps her with her technique and stage performance.

Her hard work is surely paying off because after her triumph in Italy, soon after Destiny started working on her first original song in Maltese. She went on to reach the finals of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza Junior and her song ‘Festa T’Ilwien’ written by Mark Spiteri Lucas and Emil Calleja Bayliss finished in third place. It was surely another success is her young career especially considering it was the very first time singing in Maltese – a language she loves but was always a bit weary on singing in it.

Thanks to Erseb Productions, led by the Said family, Destiny got to opportunity to represent Malta in Prilep, Macedonia along with Nathaniel Attard. Both artists in fact competed with original songs, Nathaniel sang ‘Ilgħabu Miegħi’ a song composed by Phylisienne Brincat to the lyrics of Christopher Azzopardi whilst Destiny sang ‘Live & Let Live’ a song composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss.

Both artists emerged victorious with Nathianiel Attard finishing in second place and Destiny Chukunyere finishing in first place and also winning the Grand Prix of this event. One must note that this is a very prestigious event in Macedonia and many consider it the Junior Eurovision of the East since the singers compete with original songs. Malta, once again left the right impression in Macedonia as all nine judges were impressed with the quality of the songs presented by the Maltese and the finesse of their voices.

As time goes by, the country’s talent keeps flourishing and keeps getting recognition from abroad. It is amazing to see that the rock in the Mediterranean Sea has lots and lots to offer in fact a lot refer to Malta as the tiny island with huge talent. Kudos goes to the composers and authors who continue to seek on improving their product, to the producers who keep challenging in making sure the sound is strong and authentic and also to the tutors who push their students in reaching new heights. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news from the local music scene.

In the words of Richard Stilgoe, it seems that there's a light at the end of the tunnel wherever the 2014 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is concerned with the organising committee chaired by Claudette Buttigieg publishing an updated list of semi-finalists. This comes into effect for the simple reason that each vocalist is only permitted to perform just ONE song from the television phase onwards.

At a glance, it seems that out of the SEVEN songs that Domenique had initially qualified with to the second phase, there will still be THREE in the competition with "Mara" composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Paul Ellul being the one she will be performing herself, "Ħamsin Sena Nazzjon" composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas to the lyrics of Paul Ellul being performed in a duet featuring Kaya and Nicole Brincat and "Passaġġ" written by Clinton Paul with a yet to be announced performer.

In the meantime, Josef Tabone has decided to withdraw his second song "Orrizonti" composed by Minik to the lyrics of Stephen Baldacchino as initially reported on escflashmalta.com earlier this morning, meaning that another five entries have been brought into the list, according to the number of points received during the second phase of the competition where the judges were; Olivia Lewis, Andrew Attard, Mro Maurizio Schembri, Sharon Deguara Cipriott and Noel D’Anastas.

The FIVE entries that have now managed to sneak into the Top 30 are none other than; "Ensemble" composed by Minik to the lyrics of Stephen Baldacchino with vocals provided by Johanna Galea, "Ġrajjiet" composed by Minik to the lyrics of Stephen Baldacchino with vocals provided by Michela Dallia, "Ħolma ta' Nazzjon" composed by Mark Debono to the lyrics of Rita Pace with vocals provided by Cherylis Camilleri, "Miraklu" composed by Gillian Attard to the lyrics of Rita Pace with vocals provided by Ashlee Amber and "Ngħidulek Grazzi" composed by Minik to the lyrics of Stephen Baldacchino.

The final change that we could denote in the list below is that Geordie DeBono has opted to keep "Tħobbni Kif Jien" composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Christopher Azzopardi, in the competition with veteran performer; Phyllisienne Brincat. Only two songs remain without a performer at the moment, those being the aforementioned "Passaġġ" and "Mixja li Bdiet" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Alfred E Baldacchino.
