In the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, asked the media to select the best entry in their opinion and there was unanimous agreement amongst them that this was The Remedy performed by Klinsmann. The former runner-up of the local competition is now offering his vocals to the band known as Planet Seed which also features Stefan Farrugia on lead guitars, Liam Spiteri on bass player, Chris Galea on drums and Etienne Scicluna on keyboards. Planet Seed describe themselves as an alternative rock band citing Muse, Lifehouse, U2, Audio Slave, Coldplay, Train and Goo Goo Dolls as their prime music influences.

Since forming back in 2010, they have been performing a string of cover versions across the Maltese Islands but then, in 2012, this change when they released their very first original single entitled It's Gonna Be OK peaking at numbver #1 on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay. This was definitely the beginning of something beyond their expectation and garnering a nomination for Best Newcomers at the Bay Music Awards was the cherry on the cake. Their latest single entitled Want You To Know has a predominantly different character within the same genre that the group is trying to encompass. It has also peaked at number #1 before being displaced this week by The Crowns and their latest release Home. Stay tuned to for all of the latest news about the local music scene.

It has been a great start to what looks like an amazing week full of live music – the Beland Music Festival kicked off in spectacular fashion last night with the participation of local heartthrob Kevin Borg who serenaded the crowd with his magical voice and charisma. The Beland Music Festival this year moved from the Market Square to Bulebel and one can say that the move was a success, the festival got bigger and if today’s concert was anything to go by one can easily say it got even better.

Barber’s Cut, a new upcoming band led by Kelly Busuttil opened proceedings and got the crowd going; showing that they indeed have potential. The audience seemed to have enjoyed the relatively unknown band, who mixed it up playing some of the most popular hits. They were followed by the talented Glen Vella and Pamela, who entertained the crowd with a number of popular cover versions. As the time went on, the crowd got bigger and bigger, everyone awaiting the arrival of Kevin Borg and when he finally took the stage Kevin received a hero’s welcome in Bulebel.

He kicked off proceedings with his Swedish Idol Winner’s single With Every Bit of Me and continued with a mix of cover versions and songs from his own repertoire. He closed the first part of the concert with his Malta Eurovisision entry, Needing You, where he was accompanied by former Eurovision representative Glen Vella, Pamela, Josef Tabone and Janice Mangion. The second part of the show was as strong and the crowd cherished every moment with cheering, waving and singing at the top of their lungs to Kevin’s hits. Kevin was clearly moved and described the event as being even better than his Swedish Idol final as he had never expected so many people to attend the event in aid of Puttinu Cares.

Kevin encouraged the people to attend and donate to this genuine cause. Tonight’s music festival will feature Malta’s top female artist – Ira Losco is set to take the stage for her first Summer gig and her first gig after the launch of her album The Fire which proved to be a major success. She is expected to sing some of her latest songs along with a few numbers from her previous records, she will be supported by The New Victorians an up and coming band and also Planet Seed fronted by Klinsmann. For more details on what to expect during the Beland Music Festival you can visit the programme here or their official Facebook Page.

It is important to note that on Thursday, the organizers behind the Beland Music Festival saw it fit to organize a big screen in order to support Malta’s bid in the Eurovision Song Contest – so we encourage you to join with your family and friends, grab your Maltese flags and on Thursday go and watch the Second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Bulebel as part of the Beland Music Festival. The atmosphere is expected to be electrifying as there is nothing more special than cheering for the Maltese representative together and creating a mini Eurovision atmosphere here in Malta.

Apart from enjoying the live music for a great cause, at the Beland Music Festival you can chill and relax, there’s a children’s area and a number of stalls where people can just sit there as the concert is ongoing. There is something for all the family and for all the music lovers it is something you surely can’t miss as apart from donating towards Puttinu Cares you would be also supporting the local talent who invest so much time and effort to deliver a great product. So make sure to visit the Beland Music Festival and donate something for a great cause. Stay tuned to for all of the latest news.

One can see the festival as an opening to the summer months activities as other activities take place all around the island during the summer months but most of them would not be held on such a grand scale. To organize such a massive event is not easy and Beland would not have been able to provide such a field with different artists were it not for the support they found from their sponsors. The event is free of charge but those in attendance are encouraged to give a small donation that will go directly to Puttinu cares as for another year, the event is being held in aid of Puttinu Care which works for such a noble case. So remember from the 10th of May to the 17th of May your entertainment spot should be in Zejtun at the Beland Music Festival. Stay tuned to for more information.

Ira Losco began her music career relatively early and achieved success as she built a road to the top noting that she went from a variety of local competitions to represent Malta within the Eurovision Song Contest, earning the first runner-up position with 7th Wonder composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg. Upon her return, she was a true hero and she has built a reputable career, releasing her fifth studio album entitled The Fire, earlier this year. Working with the likes of producer, Howard Keith of Jagged House, Ira has always managed to carve out an image which keeps her grounded and true to herself.

Her latest studio album has received rave reviews from local critics and has also led the albums chart on iTunes for five consecutive weeks and the next step is promoting the material off it through a number of live performances, and one of the first will be coming at the Beland Music Festival. Alongside her band, Ira will be performing with a nine piece band on Saturday, 11th May and remember that all of the proceeds would be going to Puttinu Cares, a charity which supports children in need. Ira Losco is a true, seasoned performer and in recent months, her live performances have been absolutely stunning. This will be one of the events of the season and despite following the tough act in the form of Kevin Borg on the day before, she will have the crowd at the palm of her hand considering how much she adores all of her fans.

Supporting Ira Losco on the night will be none other than two other bands, one of them being Planet Seed which is duly fronted by Klinsmann, finalist at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on several occasions and the other one being known as The New Victorians. In the meantime, the evening shall be hosted by Moira Delia from Ilsien in-Nisa which airs on ONE Television as well as Christian Micallef who is known for hosting Replay on NET Television. Remember that you may purchase your copy of The Fire on iTunes. Stay tuned to for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

89.7 Bay embarked on a mission a couple of years back to promote the local music scene and considering the astonishing amount of tracks that have been played on the radio station throughout this particular year, it seems that their efforts are paying off noting that success has become their trademark. The ninth edition of the Bay Music Awards which took place last night at the Bay Arena in St Julians were running under the theme Party Like It's The End of the World and there was a buzzing feeling in the crowd featuring people of all generations, representing the various artists who were nominated or performed. The build up was intense and several people were left on edge until the first performance, even preceding the introduction of the hosts took place. A lot was riding on the evening which included live performances for the very first time and apart from some mixing issues in the beginning of two performances, one could say it was a huge success.

89.7 Bay well represents the upcoming generation of artists and it seems that the fans that they are bringing with them are becoming more vocal when considering that the new guard was well promoted and ultimately ended up winning the most awards amongst seasoned veterans whose music is still very strong with the right to garner airplay and even nominations. Nevertheless, when tele-voting is the source of the actual vote, it is to be noted that the fan base becomes notorious and the younger generation have become accustomed to this element. Without a doubt, the live performances went down well with the crowd noting that Scar, BrookeChristabelleDimal ft Lyndsay and Red Electrick gave the show the much needed boost to make it stand out. The audience was in full support to the act pictures above though as announced at the latter stage of the evening by Benjamin Glover, one of the three hosts of the evening which also included Dorian Cassar of Bay Breakfast and Nathan D from Malta's Top Ten and the Drive-time Show.

The Bay Music Awards have become a welcome event in the local music calender and it was quite the evening when considering that following a two year break from the scene, Ira Losco made her return following her successful stint with her new single What I'd Give during the summer. The 2002 Eurovision Song Contest representative has been relatively busy in the past couple of months working on a brand new album which will be unveiled to the public in January. In the meantime, the biggest winners of the evening; Red Electrick are making headlines in several fields with one of their co-writes also competing in the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place on the 1st and 2nd February 2013. We would like you to stay tuned to as our collaboration with 89.7 Bay continues to develop in the way that it has in the past couple of months.

BMA 2012: Looking up to the New Generation

Throughout the years, 89.7 Bay has grown into a radio station of the public, one that plays the right selection of music across the whole day and never fails to miss a chord with any of the listeners. The Bay Music Awards were created nine years ago with one aim and that is to make sure that the tracks which have received a lot of praise and momentum throughout the year get attention once more in a star studded ceremony which takes place yearly in December. This years' edition which will once more be held in the Bay Arena on Wednesday, 12th December will be running under the theme Party Like it's the End with clear reference to the craze that swept the world a couple of months back that the world is coming to an end. and 89.7 Bay have collaborated with each other quite a bit this year including interviews with local artists and also featuring Nathan D in a number of features in relation to the Eurovision Song Contest but nevertheless, the time to promote the awards has come and today, proceedings are kicked off with the Best Newcomer noting fiece competition from three talented groups and a solo performer.

Some of the acts which have been nominated have just released their debut radio material including none other than the band Planet Seed  which features bass player; Liam Spiteri, drummer; Chris Galea, keyboards player; Etienne Scicluna, lead guitarist; Stefan Farrugia, and guitarist/vocalist; Klinsmann Coleiro whom many will recall from his days at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest where he has even finished as high at third in the final results. Nevertheless, the focus is on the band whose debut single entitled It's Gonna Be Ok was well received by listeners of the radio station climbing up to number one in a short space of time garnering massive airplay. There has been a lot of dedication from the group towards their beginning, so much so that even a music video has been filmed to fully support the track which will of course be performed on the night of the 2012 edition Bay Music Awards. Following their stint at the ceremony, many should expect more music to come out of this talented bunch.

Next up in this category is a duo actually who cannot be more different than the first nominated act showing clear diversity for what the people represent in terms of music selection on 89.7 Bay. In fact, Lost Emotions is a duo made up of Anthony Meachen and Steven Psaila whose element is surely the genre of dance. They had worked separately in the past but now since joining forces, they have become a dynamic force in the local music industry. The tracks that they have released onto radio included Rain featuring the vocalist Amelia as well as Paradise Bay featuring another female vocalist, this time in the form of Larissa. Both tracks were once more very well received but the latter was a huge summer hit and could be heard on several beaches near the sea especially in a number of parties that headlined in the country during the warm couple of months that have just passed by. There is an audience for this type of music but technically speaking, one does indeed have to be in the mood to listen to the tracks which they have brought forward to make the industry look more current.

Act number three to garner a nomination is one of the most successful all female girl bands to grace the music stage of the Maltese Islands noting that it has been slightly problematic to get consistency with this particular form of act in the past. Cryptic Street are looking to change that and despite their young age, they are working hard to ensure that success is just around the corner. It is worth noting that they have a great backing in the form of Matthew James and Peter Borg from Red Electrick respectively who helped them out with their debut single Indecisive which features a mixture of pop/rock with that hint of indie thrown in. The girl band is made up of five individuals, Julia Hickey on drums, Leona Farrugia on rhythm guitar, Chiara Sacco on bass guitar, Denise Gilford on keyboard and Janelle Borg on lead guitar but what is impressive is that they all have a role within the vocal department making them the ultimate threat to the industry. Look out for these girls in the future because there is something special about them.

The fourth and final performer to be nominated for this award is actually the only solo performer who has been around for quite some time but is suddenly busy in the studio recording a number of songs which are receiving a lot of airplay support. This is none other than Dimal. In fact, his most recent effort comes in the form of Let's Make It Happen which features the renowned pop artist; Lyndsay. In the past, Dimal also released award winning tracks such as Shake It, Shake It with Maddee and that surely gives him a little bit of an edge in this respective category. He comes from a field which in my opinion is not well represented in Malta, that being of Hip Hop and R'n'B but then again, what he does, he manages to do it well and that is what makes him a true solid artist. Dimal will be joined on stage by Lindsay for a performance of their latest single and it is set to be quite exhilirating according to our information.

This was the first in a series of features that has planned for the 2012 edition of the Bay Music Awards and that is because people have to party as if it's the end of the world. In order to vote for the Best Newcomer Award, it is vital to send an sms with either of these acts' respective name sakes as show in the article in bold to 50615301. It is worth noting that this particular award has been given to some spectacular acts in the past who have become some of the most popular individuals and groups in the local music industry. Therefore, technically speaking, that is why, one has to look up to these acts because they represent the music scene of tomorrow rather than the one of the day. The voting is open until the 5th December which is roughly just less than a month. Make sure to get cracking and stay tuned to both and 89.7 Bay for all of the latest updates from this years' edition of the prestigious music awards.

89.7 Bay has been the leading radio station to promote the local Music scene and in fact, has helped artists develop their talent through the medium of broadcasting.
