With temperatures already soaring at 29 Degrees Celsius, it is fair to say that Malta is looking towards an excruciatingly warm summer. Nevertheless, the public will hope to find solace in the blissful tunes that will emerge out of the local music industry, two (2) of which were made public earlier this week, "Keep Me In Love" by The New Victorians and "2 Hot 2 Handle" by Johnny Vincent & Rikki Lee.

"Keep Me In Love", the second single by The New Victorians, taken from their upcoming debut album set to be released later on this month, is a genre of music which has not been really experimented upon in Malta, yet closely resembles the sound emitted by Lauren Aquilina, the singer/songwriter with Maltese descent who is based in the United Kingdom, and is currently signed to Island Records. In support of this release, an accompanying music video has been shot, produced and directed in three (3) different locations by Malcolm Debono. The New Victorians will be giving a major performance at the Greek Theatre on the 5th June as part of Earth Garden. It also happens to be the launch date for their highly anticipated debut album.

"2 Hot 2 Handle", the latest music release by Rikki Lee, marks a second consecutive collaboration, albeit this time with Johnny Vincent, an upcoming DJ from Vienna, Austria. On first listen, the song instantly screams summer, noting that the thumping beginning is only eclipsed by an extremely strong chorus. Rikki Lee has been known to own the summer months with previous releases including "Feel Alive", "Smile" and "Lies". We urge you to stay tuned to even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news from the local music scene.

In Malta, summer is known to be a hub for the local music scene with vocal exhibitions all throughout the country but the focus is definitely on two events; the Joseph Calleja Concert on the 18th July featuring the vocal stylings of Leona Lewis, Claudio Baglioni and Federica Falzon and the Isle of MTV on the 25th June with acts including; Dizzee Rascal, Kiesza and DJ Hardwell. The audience is different although you would be surprised to find similar individuals at both events.

One major opportunity being offered by the latter show is the #BattleoftheBands, all being local and thus with a chance to perform during the Isle of MTV, which is then broadcast on the station's namesake in the next couple of months. The acts, shortlisted from a large number of submissions are none other than; Rikki Lee (currently number #2 on Malta's Top 10 with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay), Funk Initiative (with lead vocalist Gianluca Bezzina, Malta's former Eurovision Song Contest representative) and Joe Roscoe (who has just been featured on and has just started receiving airplay on local radio stations for his third single).

Think of which act you would love to listen to during the Isle of MTV and VOTE here.  It is great to see local talent being appreciated, noting that Ira Losco was part of the first Isle of MTV a couple of years back with Kristina Casolani and Gianluca Bezzina taking to the stage last year. We urge you to stay tuned to even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Rikki Lee, former lead vocalist of the band Gypsy Genes and now a solo singer/songwriter is gearing up for the release of his second single Smile, which follows the successful debut song Lies, digitally distributed by CAP-Sounds, a division of Universal Music Germany. It is not unusual for artists to engage the public but having been discussing the project with Rikki himself, it seems that he is keen to make sure that everyone is involved in Smile and is therefore asking your help by sending in your smiling selfies or photographs as messages to his Official Facebook Page.

Lies, the first release was a mixture of pop and rock, with that slight hint of ska but nevertheless, Smile could not be any different featuring that electronic, house sort of vibe which would send everyone dancing and bopping around to the tune. is proud to support this project and may we remind you that your photo could appear alongside that of a leading local celebrity in the coming weeks. We urge you to stay tuned to this portal as well as the Official Facebook Page of Rikki Lee for more updates. In the meantime, make sure to listen to a snippet of the song just below.

Rikki Lee, former lead vocalist of the band Gypsy Genes and now a solo singer/songwriter has recently chosen as the portal to unveil his debut solo single Lies, a pop/rock number which has also been given airplay by 89.7 Bay, Malta’s leading radio station for all the hits, peaking at number #5 thus far. The male vocalist has gone on record stating that he is going ‘to do his best to release hit records on a frequent basis’ having already shown what he can achieve when in a group as a lead vocalist. He is currently working with David Cassar Torreggiani of Scar fame on upcoming music releases.

In the past couple of hours, Rikki Lee opened a Facebook Fan Page, ready to take the local music scene whilst also unveiling a music video for his debut release. An official airing on television is being planned in the coming days according to close sources within his management team. Whilst Lies is somewhat typical to the interests of the general public in Malta, the next single will be somewhat bigger, better and more daring, possibly a tad more eighties, a tad more disco whilst still being current but more details about that in due course. We urge you to stay tuned to for all the latest news about promising artist such as Rikki Lee who make up the local music scene.

Source: Facebook Fan Page is in a position to confirm that Rikki Lee, lead vocalist of Gypsy Genes, a local band which was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2013 edition of the Bay Music Awards is going solo and is set to release his debut single, Lies. The male vocalist has gone on record stating that he is going ‘to do his best to release hit records on a frequent basis’ and is already working on follow-up material to his debut single.

Lies, a pop/rock number with a magnificient backing chorus, one which will surely evoke the maddest instinct of every listener. The click of ones’ fingers along with the tapping of ones’ feet will be a familiar feel throughout. Without a shadow of doubt, this is a track which is instantly memorable, catchy and has a particular tone which makes it recognisable on all counts. Rikki Lee, has the makings to become a leading solo artist in the local music scene, especially with the right ingredients and personnel behind his every move. Stay tuned to for all the latest news from the local music scene.

Gypsy Genes, a non-traditional name for a brand new band which is ready to take over the local music scene hoping to 'bring to the island, something new and hip'. I was sent their debut single entitled Red Hot Money through a message on social networking website, Facebook and indeed, it seems to be a fusion of disco, funk and pop at the very same time. Typically, I am not the biggest fan of several genres jumbled up together but this is a professionally produced track and merits success. Gypsy Genes is made up of five members; Raxku on Drums, Kram on Keyboards, Chris Xuereb on Bass, Rikki Lee on Vocals and David Cassar Torreggiani on Guitars.

David Cassar Torreggiani is definitely the most experience of the clan noting that he is also a part of the group Scar who were in this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest whilst also co-writing the track Never Walk Away by Chris Grech which finished in fourth place and also won the public award on as given out on Sas-Sitta which airs on NET Television. Red Hot Money has already been gaining popularity on radio considering that it entered Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay as the only new entry of the week. Those who would love to listen to the track constantly may purchase it through digital store, iTunes. We encourage you to stay tuned to for all of the latest news about the local music scene as soon as it becomes available.
