MESC 2016: Claudia Faniello Denies Rumours

"I decided not to go for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest this time around, focusing on myself and new material, as part of a larger collection", echoed Claudia Faniello to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com, amidst growing rumours that she was eyeing a comeback.

Claudia Faniello first emerged onto the local music scene with "High Alert", an original song which got through to the final stages of the Malta Song for Europe 2006 with the vocals of Olivia Lewis, who had to interpret another song, "Spare a Moment", having obtained more points. As a result, the renowned songwriter chose the younger of the Faniello siblings, and from then onwards, she has gone from strength to strength.

Finishing as the first runner-up in 2008 with "Caravaggio",  composed by Ray Agius with lyrics by Godwin Sant, and in 2012 with "Pure", composed by Philip Vella with lyrics by Gerard James Borg, Claudia has cemented her place as the most successful female artist in the national selection not to win the competition. Her last participation came in 2013, with "When It's Time", which the singer/songwriter penned to the music of Errol Sammut.

Since then, she has focused on developing her own genre, working on a further two singles; "One Fine Day" and "Miles Away", with a third one in tow. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

Exclusive: Olivia Lewis Ponders on Participation

With the rules and regulations of the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest released, there is a lot of commotion in the local music industry with several artists gearing up for a possible participation in the esteemed event which is very much popular with the local audience. Amongst the names of people who have been tipped for another try is none other than former representative Olivia Lewis who took to the stage back in 2007 with the track Vertigo composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg. In the years leading up to the ultimate victory, Olivia had finished as the runner-up three years in a row starting off with Take a Look composed by Paul Giordimaina and penned by Fleur Balzan, followed by Deja Vu with music by Philip Vella and lyrics by Gerard James Borg and last but not least, Spare a Moment composed by Ray Agius and penned by Godwin Sant. In an exclusive statement to escflashmalta.com, Olivia Lewis addresses her fans about the possible participation for the very first time.

I can't really comment at the moment. It has been on my mind for some time but I am still very much undecided. People have been trying to suggest that I take part again, but I still have to see. If I ever come back it has to be something really good. I can wait. I am in no rush! Olivia Lewis remains to be one of the most popular winners of the Malta Song for Europe, noting that the amount of tele-votes received were 30977, making her the most voted ever contestant. It has to be pointed out that the competition was actually quite stiff especially due to the fact that the first runner-up, Trilogy had come in third place the year before and were therefore looking more like favourites with their entry Starlight composed by Paul Abela and penned by Joe Julian Farrugia. Nevertheless, following three years of runner-up finishes, missing out to the likes of Julie & Ludwig, Chiara and Fabrizio Faniello, Olivia finally took home the crown. It will b e quite intriguing to see whether she finds the right song to return to the competition. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.
