Remember those 80 guitarists on one stage last year? Awesome music from the greats like The Beatles, Smokie and The Tramps? Yes, Strummin' is back and preparations for this year's edition have begun!

Last year Strummin' raised €5,000 which was donated to Hospice Malta — a voluntary, non-profit organisation with a team of 30 people providing palliative care and support to cancer patients and their families. With an ever-increasing case load, and the expansion of the services they offer, this donation is welcome by the Hospice Malta as they celebrate their 25th anniversary this year.

The event in 2013 was supported by Voices Foundation, The Good Causes Fund, Malta International Airport, Studio 7, MCAST and The Sound System. An annual event in the ZHN calendar, 2014 will see the concert's thirteenth edition. The concert is nowadays synonymous with the promotion of Maltese talent, while fulfilling the ideals of ZHN, in being a platform for young local talent and developing young people's potential.

Strummin is an annnual musical event which aims to showcase young people's talents whilst working for a good cause. The event's mission is to help young workers grow and overcome everyday problems by finding just solutions. Some of this years' line-up include none other than Rachael Tedesco Triccas, a television actress with a stunning background in musical theatre and former Malta Eurovision Song Contest participant Ryan Grech.

In the past, the idea was to have a concert with a choir of guitarists strumming to popular songs whilst raising funds for a good cause. Since the first event, the guitarists still remains the main focus of the concert, however, each year the concert strives to improve its strandard and promote young talents more and more each year. Even though the concert always aims to prepare a professional event, nevertheless it ensures that participants are enjoying themselves while preparing for it.

Every year, new guitarists, singers, band members are welcome to join this event. Past notable performers include Dana McKeon and former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Gianluca Bezzina. The project relies on money received through donations, sponsors and ticket sales. This year, this edition will be held on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta at 8.00pm.

Tickets are on sale from www.sayitmalta.com/strummin or ticket hotline 79244418. As always, the proceeds from the tickets sales will be donated to a worthy cause and Strummin' has teamed up with Hospice Malta for the 12th edition of the concert. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

Certain artists define the music of a generation and thus could ultimately claim their stake in calling themselves icons. Therefore, from the sultry voice of Frank Sinatra to the rocking beats of The Rolling Stones, many people will definitely know the names and even more, the tracks that they are well known for and these tunes will once more be given a new light thanks to this years' edition of Strummin' which is taking place on the 14th and the 15th September within the Sir Temi Żammit Hall with the main focus of the evening being a Tribute to the Greats who have as already pointed out before hand, shaped music, and given it meaning.

The cause has always been sublime with this years' benefiiciaries being none other than children and families who are suffering and given aid by Puttinu Cares. The evening will be impeccable, mark my words, noting that the organisation known as Żgħażagħ Ħaddiema Nsara are ensuring an unforgettable night filled with sounds from a guitar ensemble of around sixty (60) guitarists polished to perfection to emulate some of the greatest contributors to music after months of preparation. Last year, there was a great input from the people with a total of €2,400 collected and given to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

It has to be noted that Strummin' is quickly growing into a notable event especially with the launch of a brand new website which could be accessed here and also a brand new logo designed by none other than Isabel Micallef who won a logo competition against an extremely intriguing group of talented artists. The logo chosen incorporates the essence by which sound is coaxed out of a guitar as well as Strummin''s own identity. Talent is surely key for such an event and it is also to be noted that amongst the people included in the event there are former Malta Song for Europe semi-finalist, Jean Claude Vancell who is also an escflashmalta.com contributor as well as Luke Grech from the local band Relikc. From our editorial board, there is also none other than Andy Muscat and therefore, we would like to officially announce our endorsement for the event following such active involvement by our team.

We are counting down the days for Strummin' Tribute to the Greats to be held on the 14 and 15 September at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta at 8pm. Don't miss out! Book your tickets  from www.ooii.com.mt or call to reserve your tickets from 79 244 418.  The event is being supported by BOV, Nestlé, Corinthia Palace Attard, Studio 7 and The Sound System. Stay tuned to  escflashmalta.com  for more news about local events which are a great tribute to the arts.
