As Editor-In-Chief of, I would like all of our readers an extremely Happy New Year and sincerely hope that it would prove more satisfactory than the one preceding it. In terms of music, it is going to be an extremely difficult year to follow up with Malta achieving success both at the senior and the junior level of the Eurovision Song Contest with Gianluca and his entry Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat finishing in eighth place, the best result since 2005 and Gaia Cauchi and her song The Start co-written with Elton Zarb, Matt Mercieca and Gillian Attard finishing on top of the leader board giving the nation their first ever success in an event organised by the European Broadcasting Union.

In recent days, we have been in touch with Gillian Attard, in hope of getting extremely special greetings for the brand new year, and indeed, being so courteous and kind, she gave us the go ahead and made sure that a couple of videos are recorded as the new year dawns on both Malta and the rest of the world. All the students who have been selected are coached by Gillian Attard, otherwise known as Miss G at the illustrious La Voix Academy whose track record with children in competitions is beyond amazing. It is no secret that the institution is run with a professional attitude and that several teachers should follow such an astonishing example as is being set forth by Gillian. Kicking off the special video messages is Gaia Cauchi.

Gaia Cauchi, winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013, and also the illustrious Sanremo Junior a couple of months back decided to sing a special rendition of Happy New Year originally by Abba, and then covered by the likes of Niamh Kavanagh, Chiara, Paula and Ovi during the Romanian national selection. The second video is that of Shauna Vassallo, an upcoming artist who had the opportunity to perform on a regular basis on the programm; Io Canto which airs on Canale 5. This was the same show which had given us the likes of Danica Muscat, a two time qualifier of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

The final video is that of the wonderful Veronica Rotin, another starlet of the La Voix Academy who had been given the opportunity to perform on Io Canto, and also managed to get through to the final stage of the competition, something which no other Maltese had ever done. It is not easy achieving success on an international level, but with sheer class and talent, anything is possible. Once more, on behalf of the editorial board, and also EXOR Group, proud sponsors of, we would like to wish you a very Happy New Year filled with everything your heart desires.

Malta: 'Io Canto' Entrusted to La Voix Academy

In recent years, La Voix Academy headed by Gillian Attard has been growing in reputation with success all over the world, most notably in neighbouring Italy, a nation which is known to appreciate upcoming talent and which has a music scene which directly affects Malta. The renowned body of vocalists which now reaches around 140 students has been given the exclusivity for the second consecutive year with regards to the Canale 5 programme; Io Canto, hosted by Gerry Scotti.

It is worth pointing out that this year, for the very first time ever, there were two (2) artists from Malta on the showcase; Shauna Vassallo and Veronica Rotin. Whilst both have given show stopping performances, the jury have decided to put the latter through to the final stages of the competition denoting that all the standing ovations she was given throughout the series actually meant a lot. During the time on the programme, she has performed a vast selection of songs including; Proud Mary, and the Dreamgirls hit track, And I am Telling You.

La Voix Academy is also busy with preparations for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest at the moment as the internally selected artist; Gaia Cauchi is also part of this prestigious project which Gillian Attard, known to her children as Miss G initiated not too long ago. She will be performing a song entitled The Start co-written by Elton Zarb, Matt Mercieca and Gillian Attard on the 30th November in Kiev, Ukraine. Stay tuned to for all of the latest news.

Veronica Rotin, part of the alumni at La Voix Academy headed by Gillian Attard is currently appearing on the popular talent show, Io Canto which is broadcast on Canale 5. Maltese have a tendency to watch Italian television religiously and therefore, it comes as no surprise that many were surprised to see local talent amongst the line-up. This is not the first time that this happened though, noting that a couple of years back, it was Danica Muscat who had the opportunity to perform with Ron, The Priests and Ornella Vanoni on the television programme, instantly earning fame for her astonishing vocals.

During last nights' programme, Veronica Rotin took to the stage to perform the popular Jennifer Hudson track And I am Telling You which in turn won her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar a couple of years back. The performance was stunning with Rotin managing to hit all of the high notes despite having a shaky beginning. Albeit, as a true professional and a meager nine (9) years of age, she managed to make some of our 'established' performers look amateurish. Veronica is clearly going to be as big as Danica Muscat, who in turn is competing in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendendenza with the track L-Ewlieni with music by Philip Vella and lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss. Stay tuned to for all of the latest news.
