Mużika Mod Ieħor, a blog with a critical eye on the several releases in the local music scene was founded several years ago by Dr Toni Sant, an individual who has managed to slide in and out of the scene through various methods, having been part of the board that used to organise the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in the past as well as a disc jockey on multiple radio stations. At the end of the year, an awards system is put in motion in order to bestow a couple of honours upon some artists who might have either been overlooked or who had still garnered popularity throughout the year.

The project is divided into five categories; TOP ALBUM, TOP SINGLE/EP, TOP VIDEO, TOP ONLINE RELEASE and TOP OVERSEAS RELEASE, in a clear bid to make sure that no one is left out of the running in the several awards. Voting could take place through one’s personal account through Facebook on the official website, and then also follow the standings which are updated on an hourly basis. Artists from the Eurovision Song Contest, including none other than; Chris & Moira (1994), Ira Losco (2002) and Gianluca Bezzina (2013) are all nominated.

Sammy Bartolo and Mary Rose Mallia are iconic stars within the local music industry and have released songs in Maltese which will be performed for several generations to come. Following an astonishing rendition of Xemx by Gianluca and Joseph Calleja during the latters' annual concert, it was time for the band headlining this years' edition of Akustika to give it a go, and indeed, they succeeded into making it intimate and enjoyable for everyone. A first performance with the theme Leħen Malta took place last Friday night at the Cottonera Resource Centre in Vittoriosa but fear not because a second performance will be taking place at Quadrangle within the University of Malta in order to represent the core values thought at the same institution through the value of song.

For those slightly green about Akustika, it is a musical project coordinated by ŻĦN Symphonik with the aim of combining the talents of nine (9) musicians from different musical backgrounds. Amongst the current crop of artists being used for this event, there are none other than former Malta Eurovision Song Contest participants; Janice DeBattista (2013) and Jean Claude Vancell (2008) as well as Sean Borg from The New Victorians and Luke Vella Clark from The Crowns. We shot a number of videos during the first performance held on Friday but have opted on uploading the one for Marija l-Maltija, the first entry to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1971. For more details, visit the Event Page on Facebook and stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

escflashmalta.com has somewhat been focusing on the participation of Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest in the past couple of days as expected but nevertheless, we are proud to announce the exclusive launch of a brand new single entitled Superhero by Jean Claude Vancell. 'Quirky, subdued and reserved', the track will be hitting the radio stations in the next couple of days as Jean Claude Vancell continues to prepare for a couple of new releases in 2013. The message of the song is rather intriguing as it looks at the unspoken thoughts of a stalker, and a new found obsession for the stalker's love interest narrated by Vancell.

The track is also a stepping stone for Jean Claude, marking the launch of his first solo music video. With a self-written storyline, artistic direction by Monica Farrugia and photographic direction by Alistair Farrugia, the video is a small journey into the stalker's world. The video also features Michelle Mifsud. Jean Claude's summer will be as busy as ever as he takes the stage as one of the singers of Akustika's summer concert to be held in August, together with solo appearances and new releases. For more information about the release of the single, we encourage you to visit the official website of Jean Claude Vancell whilst the single can also be downloaded for free only for a limited period through this website. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more news about local artists, even those who are part of the editorial team.

Certain artists define the music of a generation and thus could ultimately claim their stake in calling themselves icons. Therefore, from the sultry voice of Frank Sinatra to the rocking beats of The Rolling Stones, many people will definitely know the names and even more, the tracks that they are well known for and these tunes will once more be given a new light thanks to this years' edition of Strummin' which is taking place on the 14th and the 15th September within the Sir Temi Żammit Hall with the main focus of the evening being a Tribute to the Greats who have as already pointed out before hand, shaped music, and given it meaning.

The cause has always been sublime with this years' benefiiciaries being none other than children and families who are suffering and given aid by Puttinu Cares. The evening will be impeccable, mark my words, noting that the organisation known as Żgħażagħ Ħaddiema Nsara are ensuring an unforgettable night filled with sounds from a guitar ensemble of around sixty (60) guitarists polished to perfection to emulate some of the greatest contributors to music after months of preparation. Last year, there was a great input from the people with a total of €2,400 collected and given to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

It has to be noted that Strummin' is quickly growing into a notable event especially with the launch of a brand new website which could be accessed here and also a brand new logo designed by none other than Isabel Micallef who won a logo competition against an extremely intriguing group of talented artists. The logo chosen incorporates the essence by which sound is coaxed out of a guitar as well as Strummin''s own identity. Talent is surely key for such an event and it is also to be noted that amongst the people included in the event there are former Malta Song for Europe semi-finalist, Jean Claude Vancell who is also an escflashmalta.com contributor as well as Luke Grech from the local band Relikc. From our editorial board, there is also none other than Andy Muscat and therefore, we would like to officially announce our endorsement for the event following such active involvement by our team.

We are counting down the days for Strummin' Tribute to the Greats to be held on the 14 and 15 September at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta at 8pm. Don't miss out!
