Ira Losco

Ira Losco

escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Jagged House has been presenting a montly blog written by Ira Losco, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. It has been almost two years, since the singer/songwriter decided to come back, and start teasing new material to fans of the competition. What I'd Give was a massive success and won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. On the other hand, nothing beats the response towards the third single; Me Luv U Long Time, not even the fourth single, The Way It's Meant to Be.

My oh my oh my. And I thought January and February were going to be my ‘quiet’ months!! Not really. While I was in Manchester filming my latest video The Way It’s Meant To Be I got the call from PBS asking if I’d be interested in presenting the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with Gianluca. That was just 3 weeks before it actually happened. I was very pleasantly surprised by how well received Gianluca and I were. I loved every second of it! Sunday was also exciting as I bagged THREE awards out of my four nominations. Best Artist, Best Video for Me Luv U Long Time directed by The Bigger Picture and my ultimate favourite award: Best Album for The Fire!!! The following weekend I was in Serbia shooting for a Brazilian brand AND this week The Way It's Meant to Be held its number #1 position. Life is very good! These are my TOP 5!!

Sam Smith - Money on My Mind (UK)

I love Sam Smith’s voice. He’s the voice behind the sexy as hell “Latch” he doesn’t sound what he looks like at all though don’t you think? Hehehehe I love this garage movement, which has really picked up again the last couple of years.  I love what he’s done with ‘Naughty Boy’ too. Can’t wait to hear more from him.

Pharrell Williams - Happy (USA)

Pharell makes me wanna smile and dance. His music is always uplifting. I’ve always thought he was cooler than cool. Everything he touches turns to gold. The single was also accompanied by a 24 hour happy video, The singer-rapper-producer dropped a video for "Happy" that runs 24 hours and features a score of cameos, celebrity and otherwise. The interface for the video, found on the website 24hoursofhappy.com, sets the clip at a time corresponding to the local time of the viewer, with the ability to fast-forward, rewind and skip around to different times of the day, fantastic idea if you ask me!!

Lorde - Team (New Zealand)

I have a penchant for electronic pop. I am a big fan of singer song-writers like Sia and Robyn, who dominated the charts back in 2011. Lorde is the new kid in town and she’s got a whole bunch of attitude. She was quoted as saying that Taylor Swift wasn’t a good role model because she was so “flawless and unattainable.” However couple of months ago she was spotted at Swift’s very own concert in her native New Zealand. The two were also spotted hanging out together, they’ve buried the hatchet it seems!

Shakira and Rihanna - Can’t Remember To Forget You

The Colombian singer/song writer and the Barbadian sultry songstress, collaborate on this up-tempo new wave and reggae rock track.  Both recording artists have had their string of number 1 hits and this track is a very catchy pop tune which has you humming along by the time the second chorus kicks in, not to mention they are a sight for sore eyes in the music video. If I were a man I don’t know who I’d pick out of the two, they are just too beautiful!!

Paloma Faith - I Can’t Rely On You

Total epic FAIL with her Italian accent in the beginning part AND another painful try at it at the end of the video heheh however she makes up for it with that totally sick voice of hers, full of that attitude reminiscent of James Brown. With a hot new album, aptly called “A Perfect Contradiction” boasting producers such as Pharell Williams, Paloma Faith is going to be the IT girl  in the soul pop circle. The fiery red-head is, slowly but surely, leaving her mark on the pop world like never before!

Malta: November's Favourite Tunes by Ira Losco

escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Jagged House has been presenting a montly blog written by Ira Losco, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Around a year ago, following an extended period of time off, Ira Losco returned to the local music scene with the track What I'd Give which won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. On the other hand, nothing beats the response towards the third single; Me Luv You Long Time, so much so that Ira is calling on her fans for the selection of her fourth single as stated below.

The BMAs are just around the corner. THE PERSON I AM has been nominated in the BEST SONG category  and with it having held the number 1 spot for 6 consecutive weeks it stands a pretty good chance. You can contribute to its success at this year’s BMAs by sending IRA LOSCO to 50615300. You may cast your vote 3 times. I’ve also just launched a BRAND NEW competition in collaboration with Coca Cola on Bay Radio. YOU are going to get to choose my FOURTH single from my latest album THE FIRE. Vote for YOUR favourite song from the 3 choices on my FANPAGE. Click on the Coca Cola Application and be in the chance to win some great prizes as well as choose my Next single!! ... and of course, here are my TOP FIVE (5) for November!

Robbie Williams - Go Gentle (UK)

It’s not one of his best singles ever, however this sing-along single will definitely grow on you. His charisma and tongue in cheek attitude really makes him appealing to many. I preferred his Summer single with Dizzie Rascal, but this is a nice change too.

Lady Gaga Feat. R.Kelly - Do What You Want (USA)

I really like the 80s sample. I dislike Lady Gaga in general, I think she tries to shove the “Pop Art” image down people’s throat way too much, THAT said, she has an incredible voice and gives a good show. I’m not always keen on the song-writing, but this track I like.

Foxes - Youth (UK)

Make way for this 24 year old South Hampton lass. She is THAT voice behind Zedd’s ‘Clarity.’  With the melancholy of Lama, the electro pop feel of Ellie and her own little original touch she really is someone to look out for. She has also worked with Fall Out Boy and her hot debut album is scheduled to be released in March!!!

Rihanna - What Now (USA)

The Barbadian beauty keeps re-confirming her relevance in the music scene. A very strong verse and a smashing chorus line makes this tune a definite prized pop song. There are many saying that this is her cry for help, against the dark force which lured her into the Illuminati trap….who knows whether that story is true for the many artists out there… maybe it’s just hype to get everyone to listen to their music…that said, she’s never released anything bad! IMHO.

Rudimental Ft Emeli Sande’ – FREE (UK/Scotland)

When Emeli sings on a track she makes it her own. Her voice gives uniqueness to this powerful single. I love the urban sounds and gospel feel Rudimental bring to FREE. What a great collaboration!!! And as if the fantastic fifth single off Rudimental’s HOME isn’t enough, it is accompanied by a video which’ll have any extreme sport fanatic sitting at the edge of his/her chair.  The video features real life wing suit flier and extreme sports athlete Jokke Sommer gliding through the air around the Eiger mountain in the Alps. The video was directed by Stu Thomson and required no post-production for the stunts, with Sommer displaying his real ability on film.

Well, it has been quite a difficult selection this time round. In the meantime, I would like to let everyone know that this New Years Eve, I will be playing at the La Soiree' Chic. More details are available through the link. You could also win some astonishing prizes in another competition set-up on the page, including a couple of The Fire albums for measure :)

Malta: October's Favourite Tunes by Ira Losco

Whilst September was one of the busiest months for Ira Losco as she prepares for the autumn/winter schedule, she has been kind enough to continue her collaboration as set forth between escflashmalta.com and Jagged House. The former Eurovision Song Contest representative on behalf of Malta, is one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Last year, following an extended period of time off, Ira Losco returned to the local music scene with the track What I'd Give which won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. The third single off the album entitled Me Luv You Long Time recently got a music video, one which has almost amassed a quarter of a million views.

This month was CRAZY!!!! I didn’t have time to breathe, why doesn’t a day have 48 hours instead!!! I also fell late with submitting my TOP5 as you may have realised! However I’m super proud of the reception of my Video Me Luv u Long Time. The video has gone over 200,000 in just two weeks!! It hit the number 1 spot after 2 weeks of its release too. Good times!!! Welll done once again to ALL involved in the production of my music video namely The Bigger Picture. Here go my top 5 this month!

Phillip Phillips - Gone Gone Gone (USA)

This guy’s name makes me think, what he went through when he was at school. It’s a right div’s name. But it also has a cool ring to it. Lol  I really like the positive energy this song has. It reminds me of a thousand other songs released this year, but just more credible and honest.  Considering he is the product of the Eleventh Edition of America’s  Pop Idol.

Lorde - Royals (New Zealand)

I don’t know why but this girl’s cool and composed style reminds me of Suzanne Vega, vocally she is in the league of ‘SIA’ and ‘ Florence and The Machine’ (in the studio please note). I love the way the beat drops in this track. The last track which had a similar vibe in my opinion was ‘Jem’s’ They. I seriously think her album is gonna be the bomb. It’s the kind of music you come home to, pour a glass of wine, get tipsy and moon people from your balcony to.

Coldplay - Atlas (UK)

I just LOVE the piano on this track. My God can Coldplay write an amazingly dark piano line and make it work in pop. I’m not a HUGE fan, however I can always find myself listening to their songs on repeat, just to wait for my favourite chord, arpeggio, vocal delivery. I haven’t watched The Hunger Games yet, to which this is the soundtrack to apparently … dunno what I’m waiting for, rain and clouds, for a dvd afternoon I guess…oh yes and being slightly less busy heheh!

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (USA)

I’m not a fan of Miley. I don’t dislike her, I just never liked her music because it wasn’t directed towards an audience my age. However this track is unbelievable. The video did its purpose. She wanted people to take note, they did. Hammer licking..CHECK, underwear shot…CHECK…swinging naked on a wrecking ball…CHECK ….I guess people everywhere now knows who Miley Cyrus is…even those who would’ve never cared. The song is extremely well written to be the smashing power ballad it needed to be on her new album.

Bastille - Things We Lost in The Fire (UK)

The Londoners ‘Bastille’ are my Top choice. I just love these guys. They remind me of a more posh and pop toned down version of ‘The Bravery.’ I love their effortless way of writing a great pop song.

THIS Friday I will be playing LIVE at the KSU Campus Fest. Can’t wait to see you all there!!!! We will be hitting the stage at 22:30HRS. Entrance is FREE and I will be holding Meet & Greet sessions after the performance. Looking forward to meeting all of you!!! The third single off the album entitled Me Luv You Long Time is set to get an official video release in the next couple of weeks.

I can’t wait for you all to watch the Me Luv u Long Time video!!! The Bigger Picture have done an unbelievable job and the song is doing extremely well! It’s peaked at number 1 on the 89.7 Bay Radio Top 10 and is already at number 7 in the Top 30. Everyone I meet tells me how much they really like the track, that obviously makes me so happy. It’s such a satisfaction to write an album, which is really touching people in every way possible. Ira Losco listens to music from all over the world in whatever genre they might be, adding to the whole intrigue of her selection and as a matter of fact, let's see what her Top 5 Tracks for the month are!

Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (USA)

This track by American indie rock duo has already sold over a million copies in the US.  It’s got a fresh summer sound and I’m dead curious to listen to their album. I can’t find any reference to its date of release, but I’m sure if there’s more where this came from, it’ll be good.

True Love - P!nk ft. Lily Allen (USA)

No one sings about Love like P!nk does. She really tells it as it is. The nitty gritty parts of the relationship, us women moan to our best friends about. And she does it so well. I love her tongue n cheek lyrics and her cheeky videos, which now features  her daughter alongside her husband Carey Hart, who was in another two videos prior to this one. It seems she hasn’t saved her acting talents for videos alone, P!nk is going to star alongside fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow in the upcoming movie “Thanks for Sharing.”

Lose yourself To Dance - Daft Punk (France/USA)

Again Pharrell William’s sexy vocals and Nile Rodgers invaluable touch to the track Lose Yourself To Dance make it one of my favourites off Daft Punk’s album “Random Access Memories.”  I don’t believe it is one of the strongest singles so far, but it grooves and makes you want to hit the dance floor……an LED Dance floor that is! heheh

Alive - Empire of The Sun (Australia)

I have a soft spot for Oz musicians, to me they see the world from a different perspective. They have a style of their own. I can’t put my finger on it, but they sound more organic than most other European/UK bands do. That’s just my thought, but that’s what I feel when I listen to their music. Alive is the first single from their album Ice on Dune which Luke Steele (Empire of the Sun are a duo, the other being Nick Littlemore) compared to Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, but said they have better songs. Strong statement…haven’t heard their full album yet, but will do, just to see if he’s right or not ;-)

Ellie Goulding - Burn (UK)

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ellie Goulding is one of my favourite Brit artists this year. Her timbre is  gorgeous, airy, yet strong, it’s a voice which soothes. This single really knocked everyone’s socks off. ‘Burn’ is the fourth single released off her album Halycon. And just to set the record straight, cause a few people are convinced she is… she’s not dating Calvin Harris…the kissing, caressing and fondling was just for the video to I Need Your Love released by Harris last April. Harris is actually dating Rita Ora. :-p

As always stay tuned to my Facebook Fanpage for status/picture/video/music updates and BRAND NEW VIDEO updates THIS weekend!!! For those of you who STILL haven’t purchased The Fire …you can do so by clicking here!! The band and I are getting geared up for our performance in Zabbar alongside Trbali. We will be hitting the stage first at around 9pm and Tribali will end the show. Entrance is FREE and I will be holding Meet & Greet sessions after the performance. Looking forward to meeting all of you!!!

I’m currently writing this amidst crazy prep work for my next video for my Hot Summer Single Me Luv u Long Time. I’m obviously excited and slightly nervous about it there are a LOT of people on board this time…. The Bigger Picture taking care of all Direction/Production for the video of the third single off The Fire. I just can’t wait!!! Here go my Top 5 Tracks for the month. It's quite intriguing to denote that Ira Losco listens to tracks from all over the world including Europe, America and Australia. It is unknown whether she will be listening to anything Asian sometime soon.

Goin’ Crazy - Dizzie Rascal Feat. Robbie Williams (UK)

When I’d heard the Ghanaian British rapper first I hated that whole cockney thing. Don’t get me wrong…. I LOVE the cockney accent with a passion, I secretly do imitations, they crack me up, however I didn’t really warm up to the idea at first. Then I started to like ‘The Streets,’ cause of their unbelievable lyrical content, Lilly Allen’s wit and I slowly but surely started to watch out for Dizzie. He’s one hell of a writer!!! I love this collaboration with bad boy Robbie Williams, who is a great showman and vocalist, hands down!

Wild - Jessie J (UK)

This girl is on fire, she is inspiring, her strength is something, which I aspire to. Her voice…let’s not even go there…I haven’t heard a vocalist like her in years!!! Her range is  every singer’s  dream! She’s beautiful and talented. Plus I’m so chuffed I got to see her live on our island, she stole the show!

La La La - Naughty Boy (Feat. Sam Smith) (UK)

It seems my top 5 is all about the Brits! Naughty Boy, born Shahid Khan is a British writer/musician/producer/rapper. He is well known for producing two top-ten records for UK rappers Chipmunk and Wiley, with guest vocals featuring singer-songwriter Emeli Sande’ besides a strong writing and production partnership with the latter. He has worked with Cheryl Cole, Jennfier Hudson and Leona Lewis. This is one of those songs you sing along to endlessly….. all day long!!

Attracting Flies - Aluna George (UK)

I LOVE the chavved up version of fairytales we all know  so well in the video. Aluna’s voice is soothing and sexy at the same time. This is a pop song for sur,e but so sleek I just had to put it into my top5. I love her cheekiness and she is definitely an artist to look out for in future.

Acapella - Karmin (USA)

The first time I heard this track I was intrigued by how sexy this girl’s voice is. I love that little playful squeak in her voice and the raunchy lyrics.  The dynamic duo have really made their presence felt with their latest single, they were already quite significant in the US, but this single has really gotten people talking about them!!! I’ve posted the acoustic version because I think there’s so much to savour from this raw version.  It’s my number 1 for this week…best line in the song?? “never mind….bring the beat back!”

As always stay tuned to my facebook Fanpage for status/picture/video/music updates and BRAND NEW VIDEO updates THIS weekend!!! For those of you who STILL haven’t purchased The Fire …you can do so by clicking here!! The band and I had an awesome performance at Hondoq Ir-Rummien. Last Friday, the vibe was something out of this world.  We are now getting ready for The Beer festival on Sunday 28th July…dust dust go away!!!

Hehehe and also The Great Hal-Ghaxaq Festival on Tuesday 6th August in aid of Puttinu Cares. Both concerts are FREE entrance and I will be holding Meet & Greet sessions after each performance. Looking forward to meeting all of you!!! My Special Thanks this month go to One Studios, Nexos Lighting, The Atrium, Clinton at Hair Factory, Justin Brincat, Drew Warhurst, Godiva Topquality Hair, Lynne Salomone Reynaud and Brigitte Gauci Borda Dancers, Matthew Pace, GUESS Jeans Malta and  FCM Bank.

escflashmalta.com is proud to present another editorial piece by Ira Losco, former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest as well as one of the most popular female singers in the Maltese Islands. Following her return to the local music scene around a year ago, it seems that everything is moving right on track with both her initial singles What I'd Give and The Person I Am proving to be major hits as well as her latest studio album The Fire which peaked at number #1 on iTunes for more than two months.

Dear All, Summer is slowly creeping in and I’ve got a schedule that’s packed to the brim. I’ve also just gotten some incredible news about jet setting away again and playing amidst international stars and to huge crowds, which undoubtedly excites me!! Watch this space for more information! I’ve also started work on the NEXT VIDEO with ‘The Bigger Picture’ for the third single off The Fire. My lips are still tightly sealed about this one. Can’t wait to start filming it. It’s gonna be a blast.  Here goes my top five for the month of June!

Young and Beautiful - Lana Del Rey (USA)

When Lana Del Rey hit the music scene, I didn’t get it 100%. I couldn’t understand why the whining and the pining worked in a world where mass produced music was doing so well. But that’s probably why it worked. There are a few of us out there who like her way of turning each song into a 3 minute sob which tickles some musical taste buds. It’s a welcome change to all that thumping stuff we listen to on the radio. The song is also part of the soundtrack to “The Great Gatsby” which I’m dying to watch!

Come and Get It - Selena Gomez (USA)

Let’s make things crystal clear..I’m not a huge fan of Disney Club kids. I’m not a major fan of this song either, but when you’re choosing Top 5 songs for the month, they must be somewhat relevant and score the “singing along” points. Miss Gomez really does this track well. She’s turning into a real fox! Can’t believe her tender age (can’t believe she dated the Biebs either…eughhh) I really like the percussion in it and it’s very radio friendly, so I stuck it in here.

I Love It - IconaPop (Feat. Charli XCX) (SWEDEN)

I was in my teens during the late 90s. I remember wanting to do music with a passion so fervently that it was annoying to all those around me. Some of the bands I really liked at the time were Blur, Republica, Radiohead, Catatonia, The Cranberries, The Cardigans and loads more. During that time bands were VERY popular and most of them were fronted by real women. I guess THAT was really appealing to me and I couldn’t wait to front a band myself. During the same time the pop world was buzzing too and these two chicks who called themselves “Shampoo” were hitting the charts with songs like “Trouble.” They were a ton of fun and wrote the type of songs you would scream to while drinking thick shake and dipping fries into it. “I Love it” does this to me. Whenever it comes on the radio I roll my windows down and I sing to the top of my lungs. It’s an effortless pop song by the Swedish DJ Duo, Iconapop and it’s reminiscent of those carefree 90s days me thinks!

Treasure - Bruno Mars (USA)

I Love how everyone is going back to that glitzy, fun, disco sound. Bruno Mars, is totally on the ball with his new album “Unorthodox Juekbox” he seems to really be pleasing his audience with this one.  This is a feel good summer track which will I will gladly sip cocktails to, while strutting my stuff by the pool hehehe.

Up In The Air - 30 Seconds to Mars (USA)

When I first heard that Jared Leto was pushing his acting career to the side to pursue his song-writing/band one, I was sceptical. I thought he was a fine actor who chose dark and demanding roles and I thought he wouldn’t be as good a song-writer. I was however proven wrong after the first track to hit our airwaves. (previous singles were obviously released in their territory before they hit Europe) I especially like the short film by Bartholomew Cubbins which accompanies this song, featuring a number of well-known hand-picked personalities like Dita Von Teese.

As always stay tuned to my Facebook Fanpage for status/picture/video/music updates and also some rather silly stuff. In the meantime, for those of you who STILL haven’t purchased The Fire …you can do so by clicking on the link!! My next LIVE performance open to the public, is the ever so popular Beer Festival…let’s hope that dust doesn’t screw me up this time round again :( I will obviously be holding a meet and greet session to sign albums and pose for pictures (good at that ‘un ain’t I?) Followed by a massive performance at Hal-Ghaxaq where I will be performing alongside…guess who? Shhhhh!!!! Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for another blog next month!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9tBh7ObelU

Dear All, I can’t believe how many of you have written to me to say they loved the Beland Concert in Aid of Puttinu Cares!!! I was overjoyed to meet a lot of you at the FIRST “meet and Greet” session I’ve had since the release of The Fire and many came over to sign their copies and take pictures. It is always so heart-warming to meet the people who are fundamental towards the success story of an album….and you were all there to say hello and tell me how much you love this album!! Watch this space for more information about upcoming gigs.

I’m also still impressed that for 7 …yes 7 weeks The Person I Am held the number one spot on 89.7 Bay’s Top 10, with the cherry on the cake being the entry of The Person I Am  at Number 1 on Bay’s Top 30, and staying there for 3 weeks. It’s always amazing to be amidst the international acts! Well enough talk, let’s get down to the nitty gritty!! Apart from succeeding on the local charts on 89.7 Bay, consistency was also key through the iTunes charts and for this, I would like to thank, ALL of you who support me throughout my endeavours!

Only Teardrops - Emmelie De Forest (Denmark)

One of the most well written songs I spotted in last Tuesday’s Eurovision Semi-Final. I like Emmelie’s execution of the song. It has its similarities to other songs in the international market right now, which makes it a good contender for the top spot in this year’s contest.

Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines ft. T.I., Pharrell (USA)

You may ask why Pharrell Williams features TWICE in my top 5 as you will see….well the reason is plain and simple, the man knows how to hit all the ‘sexy/naughty/funky’ buttons while writing/producing a record. This song’s video was no stranger to controversy after youtube removed it for sexual content woopsy heheh Robin Thicke however sure as hell didn’t need the unrated video to push this song, because it screams radio all the way!!!!

Giorgio Moroder: Racer (ITALY)

Giorgio, Giorgio, Giorgio…you are the reason why I ADORE Electronica/synth pop. I still remember my parents playing their LPs or the tracks blaring out of our radio those days. What I love about this 73 year old songwriter/record producer is that he has always moved with the times, yet holding on to that very unique sound which accompanied many through the 70/80s and which people, Like ME, still gag for till this present day. He is after all a person who has influenced many… besides giving us sound tracks to some of the most colossal movies during the time, “Midnight Express” and “Scarface.” Giorgio we bow down and salute you!!

Daft Punk: Get Lucky Feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers (France/USA)

Where do I begin? The Ultimate French Dance duo to have ever graced the face of this galaxy? CHECK…..the sexiest coloured Rapper/producer/vocalist to hail from the US of A….CHECK……one of the coolest most influential Producer/song writer/musician/arranger/musician from the 70s till the present day who enlists Madonna, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Duran Duran and David Bowie…as people he has worked for…CHECK…Can the collaboration BE more amazing than this??? This is ONE track, which is going to be hot on our airwaves throughout Summer.

Gianluca Bezzina – Tomorrow (Malta)

Gianluca gets on Malmo’s Stage in Sweden tonight to represent us!!! I have no shadow of a doubt that his charm and charisma and above all his talent will make us all proud. The song written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat is a very sweet and sing along song, which I’m sure will capture the hearts of many. Following last Tuesday’s Semi-Finals, I’m sure the song stands a pretty good chance. As a sign of solidarity it is my Number 1 for this month yet again!!!

More information about The Fire concert dates will be available shortly right here!!! On my Facebook Fanpage and on my official website. Till then keep in touch with me by following me on Twitter/Facebook and Youtube. Tata!!! It is important to note that The Fire, the fifth studio album by Ira Losco has managed was the first by a local artist to be available on preorder and performed extremely well with sales rocketing it up to the pole position prior to being over taken for a brief period by Gianluca whom Ira has just ranked as number #1 in her respective list above. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for another blog next month!

Malta: April's Favourite Tunes by Ira Losco

Dear All, I’m still reeling from the extremely positive reception of my album The Fire. I have been flooded with a barrage of amazing comments. Many of you had pre-ordered the album and listened to it at the stroke of midnight on the 20th of March. Words cannot express the gratitude towards you all, for supporting local music and for always having believed in me!! Heartfelt thanks also go to Island Caterers, Villa Bologna and JUGS Malta for having organised a wonderful press event.

The press was present for the launch of the second video of The Person I Am by Keith Falzon and for interviews, which then followed. Many asked why it wasn’t open to the public. It was by no means meant to exclude anyone of you incredible people, but it was not a concert launch and more of a press do. I will be performing new tracks from The Fire Live and Electric at the Zejtun-Beland Show on Saturday 11th May with my band in concert in aid of Puttinu Cares. We look forward to seeing you there! I will obviously also be holding my FIRST Meet & Greet Signing session for The Fire there. So bring your album copies to be signed or purchase them there! Below are some of my fave tunes this month.

Bruno Mars – When I was Your Man (United States)

This guy just gets it right all the time. His lyrics are incredibly NON macho..is he sure he’s a guy who thinks like guys? Hehe I sense a bit of metro-sexual there. Definitely a very strong melody and strong words!!!

P!nk – Just Give me a Reason (United States)

P!nk Is on my list of the most amazing vocalists I’ve ever heard, not to mention how jaw-dropping she is live. She is now an acrobat besides being an incredible song-writer and performer. I’m not a hugs fan of Nate Ruess but his voice totally compliments hers on this great track.

Melbourne Ska Orchestra - The Best Things in Life are Free (Australia)

The first time I met the mastermind behind this orchestra I was in Australia with Tribali helping myself to some food at the buffet at “The Blues and Roots Festival” back-stage area and I must’ve cursed in Maltese. I know what you’re all thinking…shame on her and all that…but ironically it got Nikki Bomba to ask if I was Maltese and what the hell I was doing there? After a brief introduction I quickly learnt that he was from Paola, that he played in the John Butler Trio (an incredulous top selling artists in Oz) AND that his sister Mama Kin (also an amazing artists in Oz) was married to John Butler …Booooo (Did I forget to mention that John Butler is hot? hehe) Nikki Bomba is inspirational, his energy is infectious. In this video he is the drummer and his brother Michael is playing the piano. We should b very proud of this Maltese/Australian Family they are flying that Maltese flag high!!!! This is the ultimate feel good song!!

Emeli Sandé - Clown (Scotland)

She is the most honest song-writer to hail from Scotland in my humble opinion. This song is like the ray of hope amidst the dark moments. Her voice just rips your heart out and holds it in her hands. She is the answer to Dionne Warwick with the savvy of Whitney Houston. She will be even bigger than she already is… mark my words!

Gianluca - Tomorrow (Malta)

During the month in anticipation for Eurovision I cannot but place the young doctor on Top in my mini chart. I think this entry for Malta is fresh, relevant to today’s music and above all is fronted by a really genuine young man who stole the hearts of our islanders. Good Luck Gianluca All Malta is behind you!

I’m very excited about my LIVE season opening very soon!! Needless to say the band and I will be playing our heart and soul, cause that’s what we do best! Can’t wait to meet you all at my gigs Don’t forget to leave a comment on the ITUNES Page, this will help The Fire get the international recognition! You may purchase your copy of the album by following this link, here!

Ira Losco, local singer/songwriter has become a leading force in the music industry for the simple reason that she is highly talented, and has full creative control over the type of music she creates hence forth where the Fire is indeed coming from. escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Jagged House will be unveiling a monthly playlist of tracks which the renowned performer ranks as her best during the respective month in an editorial form. The tracks which will as much as possible be a mixture of local and foreign will be solely chosen by Ira Losco based on her opinion of what makes a song, a true hit. This will be done in just a couple of sentences; concise and extremely to the point.

In recent days, Ira Losco along with her management  revealed  that later on this month, she will be officially releasing her latest debut album The Fire which is already available for pre-order through digital stores, helping it climb to the upper echelons of the local iTunes Chart. 'To me music is about how you feel at the moment. It’s a soundtrack to your life. It shouldn't try to be something it’s not, it should be honest, true to its roots and above all at times it should also be fun. This is my take on what’s playing in my car or on my iPod right now.  I’m not setting any trends I’m just sharing things I like with you. Hope you like.'

Stay - Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko (UNAPOLOGETIC)

Probably a VERY predictable choice, but let’s face it Rihanna’s beautiful tone of voice really comes out in this strong ballad accompanied only by a piano and Mikky Ekko’s  gorgeous vocals.

Storyteller - Mel Xkejfa (Who Me?)

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Melissa when she was still part of the duo ‘Chasing Pandora.’ I love the way she effortlessly tells a story.   This new single introduced her as Mel Xkejfa.

Black Chandellier - Biffy Clyro (Opposites)

Biffy Clyro never cease to amaze me. The first single of their album launched this January is hot, hot, hot.

Dancing Alone – Alex Alden

A breath of fresh air here on this tiny island. A girl with a beautiful voice, reminiscent of Patty Smith in my humble opinion, with some great song writing skills. I love this tune!

Locked Out of Heaven - Bruno Mars (Unorthdox Jukebox)

When Bruno Mars hit the scene, it was pretty obvious that the locals would fall in LOVE with his very radio friendly first single. I have a tendency to not like what EVERYONE else is Loving. But that all changed when Bruno Mars released this track. Many criticised it sounded like a ‘Police’ track, reminiscent of it, but it does sound great!

That’s all folks…or at least for this month it is…I’ll be posting my favourite tunes next month.  Watch this space for some Fresh NEWS on my album The Fire Pre-Orders here! Ira Losco, the singer/songwriter will be with us, the editorial team as a special guest for the rest of the year as she gives her take on five hit tracks, always according to her opinion, one which is valued by many in the music industry having earned, both experience and respect amongst her peers. In just a month's time, another editorial, but until then, we join Ira in saying goodbye and stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more news about the local music scene and the Eurovision Song Contest on a daily basis.
